Does grief progress through stages? Do all people go through the same experiences? What health considerations are present in each grief experience? Does religion help? Although all people do not go through the same stages nor do they progress at the same rate, many people do go through such stages as the following: shock, lamentations, withdrawal, frustration, panic, depression, detachment, adaptation, reinvestment, and growth. The impact of rational-emotive theory and therapy upon the practice of clinical psychology has been profound, and many purportedly objective experimental tests of its efficacy as a mode of treatment have been reported. Yet the great majority of these reports have failed to utilize actual clinical populations. This study evaluated rational-emotive group therapy with psychiatric inpatients. Results supported the claim that irrational beliefs are related to emotional disturbance. It was also shown that patients undergoing rational-emotive group therapy changed their self-reported irrational beliefs more than did a control group. Finally, there was a trend for the experimental subjects to be more likely to have been discharged from the hospital during the 90-day follow-up period than were control subjects. However, this study failed to demonstrate that change in irrational beliefs was related to improvement in psychiatric symptoms or rates of discharge from the hospital. Some of the difficulties in conducting treatment evaluation research in a psychiatric hospital setting are discussed with respect to these results. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the drinking behaviors of college students at a large state university to the drinking behaviors of their counterparts at a smaller church university.Questionnaires were administered to a total sample of 764—434 students represented the state university, while 330 students represented the church university. Statistical analysis of the data revealed significant differences at the .05 alpha level between the two groups of drinkers. However, many similarities between the two groups did exist. Two of the three null hypotheses were supported by the data. Only in one category did the drinkers at the church school respond notably higher than the state school drinkers. Considerably more church school drinkers admitted to drinking primarily when in a lonely or sad mood than the state school drinkers. Drinkers at the church school felt a need to hide or be alone when drinking and did not use alcohol to socialize as often as their state school counterparts. 相似文献

Despite the fact that sex differences in field dependence/independence have been a fairly constant feature in studies employing adults, doubt surrounds the status of similar sex differences in childhood. Several attempts have been made to explain these findings, the most popular being that group Embedded Figures Tests do not tap sex differences. A simpler explanation is that large enough Ns have not been employed in past research to allow the small sex difference present in childhood to emerge as a statistically significant phenomenon. This explanation is supported by the results of the present study which employed 1200 children and was able to demonstrate a significant sex difference at both 8 and 11 yr using the Children's Group Embedded Figures Test. 相似文献
