Two constructs integral to adolescent development, continuing parental attachment and social support, were investigated to assess whether the constructs are differentially related to indices of adjustment following a romantic relationship breakup. Participants were 241 undergraduate students (M age = 20.62 years, 61% female, 39% male) with a relationship breakup within the last year. As hypothesized, hierarchical regression analyses showed that current attachment levels were related to the outcome variables. Indices of social support accounted for additional variance only when broadly conceptualized as perceived connection to the social environment, rather than perceived support from family and friends. The authors examined the effects that differently framed and targeted health messages have on persuading low-income women to obtain screening mammograms. The authors recruited 752 women over 40 years of age from community health clinics and public housing developments and assigned the women randomly to view videos that were either gain or loss framed and either targeted specifically to their ethnic groups or multicultural. Loss-framed, multicultural messages were most persuasive. The advantage of loss-framed, multicultural messages was especially apparent for Anglo women and Latinas but not for African American women. This study devised and tested a method for group administration of the Bender-Gestalt Test that would be feasible for screening large groups of beginning school-age children. Secondary considerations of the study were the reliability of the group method of administration as well as the predictive validity of test results gathered using the group technique. Students' (N = 144) age range was from five years through nine years. Results indicate that the group method of presentation using Koppitz's DBSS scoring system can yield results as valid and reliable as the traditional individual method of administering the Bender-Gestalt Test. 相似文献

This paper sets out to explain why the UK and Ireland have received a higher proportion of skilled and highly educated European migrants since 2004 than Sweden, arguing that the features of the formers’ liberal market economies as described in the Varieties of Capitalism literature are more complementary to skilled temporary migration than those of Sweden’s coordinated market economy. The flexible labour market, the short-term employment relationships, the emphasis on general education and the centrality of competition in the Irish and British labour markets are identified as the main features attracting skilled temporary European migrants. This stands in contrast to Sweden’s emphasis on specialised vocational training, long-term employment relationships and a rigid, less accessible labour market. These findings imply that European coordinated market economies, in need of skilled migrants due to demographic changes, have to create strong institutional incentives to compete with liberal market economies for skilled migrants. 相似文献

Standardized tests are commonly used to select individuals in both pre‐employment and educational settings. Nevertheless, research has yet to sufficiently explore the relationship between test anxiety (TA) and test performance in selection contexts. The goal of this study was to assess the dimensionality of TA, the relations between TA and test performance, and the impact of gender on TA within the realm of personnel selection. Test anxiety was found to be bi‐dimensional and negatively related to performance on a cognitively based selection instrument. Gender moderated the relation between TA and test performance, with stronger associations for males. This finding is consistent with the sex‐linked anxiety coping theory that is advanced here. Implications of this study and avenues for future research are discussed. 相似文献

This study was designed to investigate predictors of psychological distress in secondary school boys (n =779) and girls (n = 893) in Taiwan. Participants completed anxiety and depression scales as part of a larger study. Gender, GPA, parenting
practices, self-esteem, and personality/satisfaction were significantly correlated with psychological distress. Significant
gender differences were found in students' psychological distress, GPA, stereotyped thinking, academic self-expectations,
parental expectations, parenting practices, and mother's education level. Stepwise regressions revealed that self-esteem was
the only significant predictor for boys; it accounted for 40.9% of the variance in their psychological distress. GPA, family
income, self-esteem, and parenting practices were significant predictors for girls; they accounted for 42.6% of the variance
in girls' psychological distress. Research recommendations and educational implications are discussed. 相似文献
