Temporal and strategic factors that might influence the transformation of verbal task rules into functional stimulus–response
associations were investigated in three experiments. In a dual task paradigm of the ABBA type participants were presented
new S–R instructions for the A-task at the beginning of each trial. On varying proportions of trials No-go signals rendered
the instructed A-task mappings irrelevant before instruction implementation was assessed during performance of an unrelated
B-task. Our results indicate that participants refrain from implementing the mappings during instruction presentation when
No-go signals appear frequently and late (Exp. 2), and that they can interrupt implementing instructed S–R mappings when frequent
No-go signals appear early enough during implementation (Exp. 3). When No-go signals are rare and late, however (Exp. 1),
the instructed stimulus features always activate their associated responses during performance of the embedded B-task in an
automatic manner. Together, these findings suggest that participants strategically control whether or not they implement verbal
instructions. Once implemented, however, instructed S–R associations influence behaviour even when the instructed mappings
are no longer task relevant.

The dearth of empirical research in the application of biofeedback is discussed. Exp. 1 assessed relationships among biofeedback EMG training, EMG levels, cognitive task performance, and task difficulty. 72 subjects (male or female college students) were administered 1 trial on an iconic memory task with either EMG audio feedback, sham EMG audio feedback, or no feedback. Three levels of task difficulty were used. One 20-min. training session significantly lowered EMG responses, and task performance was inversely related to task difficulty. No relationship between EMG level and task performance was observed. Exp. 2 investigated the effect of increased EMG responses on cognitive task performance for one level of difficulty. The criticism formulated by L. B. Puntel concerning the theory of dialectic proposed by the author is rejected. Puntel's attempt at explicating predication by means of (second order) predicate logic fails: It misjudges predication being already presupposed for the possibility of predicate logic, thus belonging to the transcendental conditions of formal predicate logic, so that predication itself cannot be further explicated by means of such logic. The present study investigated the effects of a treatment program on the self-injurious behaviors of a 12-year-old autistic male. Initial observations indicated that these behaviors functioned primarily as escape responses to terminate performance demands. For 1 year the subject received general compliance training with the frequency of demands being systematically increased through consecutive treatment weeks. The subject's self-injurious behaviors were no longer reinforced by his escaping from demands nor did they receive social attention. Compliance to demands and appropriate behaviors in general were positively reinforced. The treatment produced substantial reductions in the rates of self-injurious behaviors and increased compliance. Additionally, the intensity of the subject's self-injurious behaviors decreased over the course of treatment. The present study suggests that the treatment approach is a reliable means of not only reducing self-injurious behaviors but also expanding performance repertoires. 相似文献

The co-morbidity of crying, feeding and sleeping problems at 5 months of age was investigated in a representative sample of 432 infants in South Germany. A crying, sleeping or feeding problem was reported in 32.7% of these infants by their parents and a further 14.6% had two or more of these problems. Little co-morbidity between crying and feeding problems was found. There were moderate to strong associations between crying and sleeping behaviours. Feeding problems showed little relationship to sleeping behaviour, but feeding type and frequency of feeds were related to night waking. Breastfed infants woke much more often at night. Crying and feeding problems at 5 months were poor predictors of sleeping behaviour at 20 or 56 months of age. Later sleeping behaviour was best predicted by infant sleeping behaviour. At 56 months, maternal distress due to sleeping and co-sleeping practices was predicted by maternal distress due to crying and feeding practices at 5 months of age. The predictions were significant but generally weak to modest in strength. Future studies on the consequences of crying or feeding problems should take into account patterns of co-morbidity. So-called ‘post-colicky’ sleep problems are not due to increased crying per se but rather appear to be the consequence of associated infant sleeping problems and parental caretaking patterns for dealing with night waking in infancy. 相似文献
