In a serial recall task, the Hebb repetition effect occurs when recall performance improves for a sequence repeated throughout the experimental session. This phenomenon has been replicated many times. Nevertheless, such cumulative learning seldom leads to perfect recall of the whole sequence, and errors persist. Here the authors report evidence that there is another side to the Hebb repetition effect that involves learning errors produced in a repeated sequence. A learning measure based on past recalls (correct or incorrect) shows that the probability of a given response increases with the number of prior occurrences of that response. The pattern of results reveals another manifestation of the Hebb repetition effect and speaks to the nature of implicit learning. 相似文献

A Solution-Focused Intervention with a Youth in a Domestic Violence Situation: Longitudinal Evidence

This article reports on a 4-year therapeutic intervention combining in-person and email communication with a 13-year-old Greek-Cypriot
teenager who witnessed and later was the victim of severe domestic violence. The intervention is based on an empowerment philosophy
and solution-focused strategies, and its usefulness is evaluated by three standardized measures at five time points between
the years 1999 and 2003. Pertinent cultural and ethical dynamics of the interventional context are highlighted. The intervention
may have helped to produce better perpetrator–youth relations, remission of the client’s depression and post-traumatic stress

Linguistic theory since the Cognitive Revolution has followed one of the premises of that revolution by largely sidelining
the issue of emotions and concentrating on those aspects of language that are more strictly cognitive. However, during the
last two decades research in cognitive science, especially in neuropsychology, has begun to fill in the gaps left by the exclusion
of emotions from cognitive research. This article proposes a model for applying the fruits of this new research in emotion
to our understanding of language itself. Building on Karl Pribram`s integrated model of emotions and motivations, the presentation
it offers a propositional explanation for how the emotions may have contributed to the emergence of symbolic formation and,
ultimately, to every aspect of language from lexis to literature.

Similarity is central in human cognition, playing a role in a wide range of cognitive processes. In three studies, we demonstrate that subjective similarity may change as a function of temporal distance, with some events seeming more similar when considered in the near future, while others increase in similarity as temporal distance increases. Given the ubiquity of inter-temporal thought, and the fundamental role of similarity, these results have important implications for cognition in general. 相似文献

The authors investigated semantic neighborhood density effects on visual word processing to examine the dynamics of activation and competition among semantic representations. Experiment 1 validated feature-based semantic representations as a basis for computing semantic neighborhood density and suggested that near and distant neighbors have opposite effects on word processing. Experiment 2 confirmed these results: Word processing was slower for dense near neighborhoods and faster for dense distant neighborhoods. Analysis of a computational model showed that attractor dynamics can produce this pattern of neighborhood effects. The authors argue for reconsideration of traditional models of neighborhood effects in terms of attractor dynamics, which allow both inhibitory and facilitative effects to emerge. 相似文献

We describe the Age-Dependent Evaluations of German Adjectives (AGE). This database contains ratings for 200 German adjectives by young and older adults (general word-rating study) and graduate students (self-other relevance study). Words were rated on emotion-relevant (valence, arousal, and control) and memory-relevant (imagery) characteristics. In addition, adjectives were evaluated for self-relevance (Does this attribute describe you?), age relevance (Is this attribute typical for young or for older adults?), and self-other relevance (Is this attribute more relevant for the possessor or for other persons?). These ratings are included in the AGE database as a resource tool for experiments on word material. Our comparisons of young and older adults’ evaluations revealed similarities but also significant mean-level differences for a large number of adjectives, especially on the valence dimension. This highlights the importance of age in the perception of emotional words. Data for all the words are archived at www.psychonomic.org/archive/. 相似文献
