The treatment by individual and family therapy of a hospitalized young woman is presented as it reflects the historical and current family dynamics of the patient and her individual psychotherapist. The contribution of these factors to a therapeutic crisis is discussed.

This article examines the non-achievement syndrome. It attempts to illuminate and capture the struggles that one individual experienced as he learned to take initiative in determining the direction of his life. This process of change is conveyed in a series of poems that the client wrote over the course of a counseling experience.     

APGA: cherish or perish?

APGA is believed to be in such a serious crisis that extensive reorganization and revitalization is required. While members share a fundamental concern for promoting positive human development, their diverse functions, settings, and backgrounds have created frustration and divisiveness. In this article I have outlined an approach to reorganization that speaks to both the common and the unique concerns of those involved in human development services. I have written this article at the editor's invitation. Its content is highly influenced by my experience as a member of APGA's Commission on Purposes, Functions, and Operations, but in no way should it be construed as a report of the Commission. Although I have borrowed extensively from the insight and wisdom of the other Commission members, the article's shortcomings are exclusively mine

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the beliefs- and skills-focused approaches to women's employment counseling. Results tend to support the value of the use of beliefs- and skills-focused interventions in assisting women who are experiencing employment dissatisfaction.

Social Interest,Running, and Life Adjustment

High social interest persons and runners reported significantly higher life adjustment scores than did low social interest persons and nonrunners. The interaction effect, however, was not significant.     

Academia and career development: toward integration

Traditional career development theories typically stress those aspects of the environment that are directly related to occupational performance. In this article the authors expand the traditional concept of the environment so that it includes the institutional press in which the individual functions. They explore a specific dimension of the institutional press, that of the relationship between the academic departments of a university and the career development of its students. They develop and illustrate a counseling intervention aimed at modifying the press of a university's academic department to make its orientation more consonant with the career development needs of its students, and they define the function of a career development consultant in this process.
