Based on theory that parents with higher levels of self-efficacy (PSE) should find it easier to parent effectively in the face of challenging child behaviors than should parents with lower levels of PSE, this study examines the link between PSE and parenting using children’s behaviors as potential moderators. Participants were 130 parents who had an older adolescent (M age?=?17.58) in addition to the target adolescent (M age?=?11.79), and both adolescents’ externalizing behaviors were used as moderators for the link between PSE and parenting of the target adolescent. Path analysis in Mplus showed that higher PSE was linked to more promotive parenting but only among parents who had an older adolescent with lower levels of externalizing behaviors. Among parents of adolescents with higher levels of externalizing behaviors, whose promotive parenting was significantly lower than other parents overall, PSE did not predict promotive parenting. The link between PSE and parenting did not differ depending on the target adolescents’ behavior. Findings suggest that the link between parents’ beliefs and parenting depends on the broader family context. More specifically, how PSE is linked to parenting practices depends at least partly on the experiences that parents bring from parenting an older adolescent to their interactions with a later-born adolescent. From a clinical perspective, parents might need guidance in how to think about their earlier parenting experiences when parenting a younger adolescent. 相似文献

Abstract : President Obama's recent Interfaith Service Challenge issued to colleges and universities in the United States encourages schools to commit to year‐long interfaith service projects that engage constituencies across campus, across faith traditions, and across the wider local community. While they were included in pre‐challenge planning, university chaplains and religious life staff were omitted from the list of partners. This omission challenges college chaplains and campus ministers to articulate a theology of interfaith service that represents their enduring priorities to engagement across faith lines and in service to others. Some students with intellectual disabilities require explicit instruction of language skills, including preposition use; however, little is known about effective ways to teach preposition use to this population. This study examined direct instruction (DI) to teach students to use and respond to prepositions. Results indicated that DI was an effective way to teach prepositions. This study systematically replicated and extended previous research on response interruption and redirection (RIRD) by assessing instructed responses of a different topography than the target behavior, percentage of session spent in treatment, generalization of behavior reduction, and social validity of the intervention. Results showed that RIRD produced substantial decreases in vocal stereotypy. Limitations of this study were that behavior reduction did not generalize to novel settings or with novel instructors and that appropriate vocalizations did not improve. 相似文献

Social cognitive career theory (SCCT; Lent, Brown, & Hackett, 1994) seeks to explain the factors that shape educational and vocational interests and choices. We used meta-analytic path analyses to synthesize data (from 1981 to 2008) relevant to SCCT’s interest and choice hypotheses, organizing the literature according to Holland’s (1997) broad occupational themes. Sufficient data were available to test (a) a 6-variable version of the interest/choice model in the Realistic, Investigative, and Enterprising themes, and (b) a 4-variable version of the model in the Artistic, Social, and Conventional themes. Analyses of both model versions were generally consistent with theoretical expectations. However, tests of the 6-variable model indicated better support for representing the pathways from contextual variables to choice goals as being partially mediated by self-efficacy and outcome expectations rather than as producing only direct linkages to goals. We consider implications of the findings for theory, research, and SCCT-based interventions. 相似文献

Three experiments provide evidence for a primacy effect in judgments of spatial location. Participants viewed and immediately
estimated a series of spatial locations that were serially ordered from left to right or from right to left. In a subsequent
block, they judged the rightmost, leftmost, and center of the distribution or were shown dots at those locations, which they
then estimated from memory. Both judgments and memories were biased toward locations that had been presented earliest in the
sequence. The findings indicate that participants incorporate not only geometric categories, but also aspects of their prior
spatial experience, when estimating locations. The results mirror recent evidence for a primacy effect in nonspatial category

We examined the relationship between maternal employment and college students’ expected work–family conflict as well as the
relationship between expected conflict and the anticipated use of family-altering and career-altering strategies. Results
indicated a positive relationship between the extensiveness of maternal employment and expected work–family conflict only
for men. In addition, students who expected extensive work–family conflict anticipated delaying marriage, limiting the number
of children they will have, and, in the case of men, intending not to have children. There was no relationship between expected
work–family conflict and the anticipated use of career-altering strategies. Implications of the findings and directions for

Capacity is a complex construct that lacks definitional clarity. Little has been done to define capacity, explicate components
of capacity, or explore the development of capacity in prevention. This article represents an attempt to operationalize capacity
and distinguish among types and levels of capacity as they relate to dissemination and implementation through the use of a
taxonomy of capacity. The development of the taxonomy was informed by the capacity literature from two divergent models in
the field: research-to-practice (RTP) models and community-centered (CC) models. While these models differ in perspective
and focus, both emphasize the importance of capacity to the dissemination and sustainability of prevention innovations. Based
on the review of the literature, the taxonomy differentiates the concepts of capacity among two dimensions: level (individual, organizational, and community levels) and type (general capacity and innovation-specific capacity). The proposed taxonomy can aid in understanding the concept of capacity

This review traces the development of counseling theory in relation to the philosophical constructs of free will and determinism. Problems associated with free will are discussed, and an analysis of related theoretical trends and convergent paradigms is provided. Results indicate that (a) no major theory of counseling addresses the free will versus determinism problem or includes indeterminate free will as a component; (b) no grand, comprehensive theory of counseling currently exists; and (c) recent findings relating to free will suggest the need for research along theoretical lines of inquiry.
