Mintz (2003 ) described a distributional environment called a frame, defined as the co‐occurrence of two context words with one intervening target word. Analyses of English child‐directed speech showed that words that fell within any frequently occurring frame consistently belonged to the same grammatical category (e.g. noun, verb, adjective, etc.). In this paper, we first generalize this result to French, a language in which the function word system allows patterns that are potentially detrimental to a frame‐based analysis procedure. Second, we show that the discontinuity of the chosen environments (i.e. the fact that target words are framed by the context words) is crucial for the mechanism to be efficient. This property might be relevant for any computational approach to grammatical categorization. Finally, we investigate a recursive application of the procedure and observe that the categorization is paradoxically worse when context elements are categories rather than actual lexical items. Item‐specificity is thus also a core computational principle for this type of algorithm. Our analysis, along with results from behavioural studies ( Gómez, 2002 ; Gómez and Maye, 2005 ; Mintz, 2006 ), provides strong support for frames as a basis for the acquisition of grammatical categories by infants. The capability of a new multitracking system to track a large number of unmarked fish (up to 100) is evaluated. This system
extrapolates a trajectory from each individual and analyzes recorded sequences that are several minutes long. This system
is very efficient in statistical individual tracking, where the individual’s identity is important for a short period of time
in comparison with the duration of the track. Individual identification is typically greater than 99%. Identification is largely
efficient (more than 99%) when the fish images do not cross the image of a neighbor fish. When the images of two fish merge
(occlusion), we consider that the spot on the screen has a double identity. Consequently, there are no identification errors during
occlusions, even though the measurement of the positions of each individual is imprecise. When the images of these two merged
fish separate (separation), individual identification errors are more frequent, but their effect is very low in statistical individual tracking. On
the other hand, in complete individual tracking, where individual fish identity is important for the entire trajectory, each identification error invalidates the results.
In such cases, the experimenter must observe whether the program assigns the correct identification, and, when an error is
made, must edit the results. This work is not too costly in time because it is limited to the separation events, accounting
for fewer than 0.1% of individual identifications. Consequently, in both statistical and rigorous individual tracking, this
system allows the experimenter to gain time by measuring the individual position automatically. It can also analyze the structural
and dynamic properties of an animal group with a very large sample, with precision and sampling that are impossible to obtain

Experimental social psychologists routinely rely on ANOVA to study interactions between factors even when the assumptions underlying the use of parametric tests are not met. Alternative nonparametric methods are often relatively difficult to conduct, have seldom been presented into detail in regular curriculum and have the reputation - sometimes incorrectly - of being less powerful than parametric tests. This article presents the adjusted rank transform test (ART); a nonparametric test, easy to conduct, having the advantage of being much more powerful than parametric tests when certain assumptions underlying the use of these tests are violated. Artificial stimulation of the peripheral vestibular system has been shown to improve ownership of body parts in neurological patients, suggesting vestibular contributions to bodily self-consciousness. Here, we investigated whether galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) interferes with the mechanisms underlying ownership, touch, and the localization of one’s own hand in healthy participants by using the “rubber hand illusion” paradigm. Our results show that left anodal GVS increases illusory ownership of the fake hand and illusory location of touch. We propose that these changes are due to vestibular interference with spatial and/or temporal mechanisms of visual-tactile integration leading to an enhancement of visual capture. As only left anodal GVS lead to such changes, and based on neurological data on body part ownership, we suggest that this vestibular interference is mediated by the right temporo-parietal junction and the posterior insula. 相似文献

Syntax allows human beings to build an infinite number of new sentences from a finite stock of words. Because toddlers typically utter only one or two words at a time, they have been thought to have no syntax. Using event-related potentials (ERPs), we demonstrated that 2-year-olds do compute syntactic structure when listening to spoken sentences. We observed an early left-lateralized brain response when an expected verb was incorrectly replaced by a noun (or vice versa). Thus, toddlers build on-line expectations as to the syntactic category of the next word in a sentence. In addition, the response topography was different for nouns and verbs, suggesting that different neural networks already underlie noun and verb processing in toddlers, as they do in adults. 相似文献

Mimicry, the imitation of the nonverbal behaviour of others, serves to establish affiliation and to smoothen social interactions. The present research aimed to disentangle rapid facial reactions (RFRs) to affiliative emotions from RFRs to nonaffiliative emotions from a trait perspective. In line with the Mimicry in Social Context Model by Hess and Fischer, we expected that only the former are mimicry responses indicative of underlying social relating competence and predictive of social satisfaction, whereas the latter superficially resemble mimicry responses and are driven by social relating incompetence and have opposite effects on social satisfaction. Further, we assumed that social relating competence would moderate the relationship between stable individuals' tendencies to show (mal)adaptive RFRs and social satisfaction. To test these hypotheses, 108 participants first completed scales measuring social relating competence, then participated in a mimicry laboratory task and finally evaluated their naturally occurring social interactions for 10 days. Affiliative RFRs to sadness were related to proximal indices of social relating competence and predicted positive social interactions, whereas nonaffiliative RFRs to disgust were related to social relating incompetence and predicted negative social interactions. By contrast, neither affiliative RFRs to happiness nor nonaffiliative RFRs to anger were linked to proximal indices of social relating competence, and both RFRs were only (dys)functional for interaction quality in less social relating‐competent individuals. In this article, we used a social injunctive norm to incentivize the elaboration of energy-efficient projects within a building renovation simulation application. We manipulated the norm saliency (presence on the interface) and compared its effect to that of an arbitrary set goal and a no-goal condition (control). Results show that both an injunctive norm and an explicit goal, when salient, led to more energy-efficient designs. Furthermore, participants exposed to the salient injunctive norm identified important parameters more quickly, were more efficient, and were more consistently focused on energy (vs. furnishing). Implications for theory and methodology for further experiments are discussed. 相似文献
