Effective and useful interventions often deteriorate when researchers withdraw their direct supervision. We tested the survival of an intervention designed to produce effective weekly meetings in a student housing cooperative without direct researcher supervision. Chairperson performance, proposals completed per hour, and ratings of chairperson performance all increased when resident staff used a training manual, prompting checklist, and performance reviews. Eight years of follow-up revealed continuing high levels of meeting effectiveness. This study demonstrates a methodology for the direct observation and experimental analysis of intervention survival.  相似文献

Managed care has challenged mental health professionals to develop more efficient ways of addressing patient care needs. Psychoeducational programs, for patients and their families, have emerged as a medium by which relevant education and mutual support can be provided to participants. A review of the literature, a comprehensive model of psychoeducation, and the advantages of such models within the managed care program are offered. In this paper I outline an argument which Louis Loeb attributes to Descartes, which attempts to ground the epistemic priority of reason over sense-perception in the brute psychological irresistibility of the former. I claim that the position thus ascribed to Descartes collapses into a crude form of idealism, and attempt to pinpoint precisely the flaw in the argument which gives rise to this collapse. I finish by suggesting that the same flaw might be apparent in Philip Pettit's recent development of the notion of response-dependent concepts.  相似文献

The present status of guidance as a whole-school feature of the British secondary school is explored. The ingredients and issues in the development of such an approach are clarified. The status and terminology of 'cross-curricular' initiatives are examined. The need for re-asserting the rationales for guidance within an overarching whole-school view of pupils' personal-social development is suggested. Skinner's contributions to the understanding of behavior are typically viewed as being in sufficiently tight alignment with traditional science to prevent their amenability to alternative discourses such as hermeneutics. However, it is possible to identify several concepts at work in radical behaviorism that might constitute its common ground with hermeneutics. The coextensiveness of individual and environment, the emphasis on contingency, and the interminableness of conversation promised by technology are among the concepts considered here, together with issues that are potentially problematic for the effort to find a common ground.  相似文献

Data from a 1975 survey of 369 females and 325 males aged 16-17 were analyzed to shed light on the relationship between the maturity of adolescent women and their sexual behavior and contraceptive practice. A straightforward decision-making process was found among males, but more complicated influences exist for females. When the data were submitted to regression and chi-squared analyses, it was found that whereas sexually active adolescents had more liberal sexual attitudes than virgins, their sex role attitudes were more stereotypical than virgins. Then the 2 groups were subdivided into virgins who did not intend to have premarital intercourse (20%); virgins who planned or considered premarital intercourse (40%); adolescents who experienced intercourse prior to age 16 (20%); and those who experienced intercourse after age 16 (20%). It was found that the virgins who did not intend to have premarital intercourse held the most stereotypical sex role attitudes, followed by sexually active women, and that virgins planning or considering intercourse held the least stereotypical views of all. It is suggested that this occurred because these adolescents were more mature and had resolved sexual identity problems earlier without resorting to intercourse. Birth control use was found to be more effective among the adolescents who experienced intercourse after age 16. Further studies are underway to test the hypotheses that the more mature a woman is when she experiences intercourse, the more likely it is that her development will be enhanced and that her contraceptive behavior will be effective.  相似文献

A speeded classification task was used to determine the nature of the dependency relation that exists during the processing of a segmental distinction in vowel quality and a suprasegmental distinction in pitch (Experiment 1) or loudness (Experiment 2) in a consonantvowel syllable. In both experiments, evidence was found for a mutual, symmetrical dependency between the processes underlying the analysis of the segmental and suprasegmental information in the syllable. This type of interaction pattern contrasts with the pattern of unidirectional dependency previously found for the analysis of a consonantal distinction and a suprasegmental distinction, in which the analysis of the consonantal information was found to be dependent on the analysis of the suprasegmental information (e.g., Wood, 1974). Together with these earlier findings, the present results clearly indicate that the form of the interaction between processes responsible for segmental and suprasegmental analysis is a function of the type of segmental information being analyzed. Future research must determine whether the distinct interaction patterns found thus far for consonants and vowels are due to a difference in phonetic class per se, i.e., consonant vs. vowel, or to a difference in the nature of the acoustic information specifying the consonant and vowel.  相似文献

The tendency to inspect visual material (slides) rather than to respond by pressing a key in an attempt to move on to the next slide, was compared among introverts and extraverts. As predicted from Brebner and Cooper (1974): (1) extraverts inspected the stimuli for a shorter time before making their first response, (2) extraverts made more responses at a faster rate than introverts did, and (3) extraverts produced a significantly higher proportion of runs of accelerating responses.  相似文献
