The relationship between US (footshock) intensity and the two conditioned freezing responses (to acoustic CS and to "context") was investigated in fear conditioning. Administered footshock intensity was 0.00, 0.15, 0.30, 0.60, 0.90, and 1.20 mA to six different groups of 70-day-old male Albino Wistar rats. To measure contextual freezing, the animals were again placed inside the conditioning apparatus without acoustic CS and US presentation. To measure acoustic CS freezing, the animals were placed in a totally different apparatus and only the acoustic CS was presented. The 0.15 mA footshock intensity was not sufficient to condition the animals, in fact no freezing was exhibited as in the non-shocked control group. The 0.30 mA footshock intensity was sufficient only to condition the animals to the acoustic CS, whereas the 0.60 mA was sufficient to condition the animals both to acoustic CS and to context. Footshock intensities (0.90 and 1.20 mA) did not elicit any significant increase in conditioned freezing for either acoustic CS or context but at the highest one the generalization phenomenon appeared (freezing in the different context before presentation of acoustic CS). Acoustic CS freezing to all over-threshold intensities was longer than that to context. In conclusion, freezing responses to acoustic CS and context after increasing footshock intensities follow distinct patterns, and intermediate footshock intensities (0.60 and 0.90 mA) appear to be the most useful for eliciting conditioned freezing responses to acoustic CS and to context without inducing a generalized fear status contamination. 相似文献

This study investigates the performance of two Italian nonfluent aphasic patients on noun-adjective agreement in compounds and in noun phrases. A completion, a reading, and a repetition task were administered. Results show that both patients were able to correctly inflect adjectives within compounds, but not in noun phrases. Moreover, they were sensitive to constituent order (noun-adjective vs adjective-noun) within noun phrases, but less so within compounds. These results suggest differential processing for compounds as compared to noun phrases: While the latter require standard morphosyntactic operations that are often impaired in aphasic patients, the former can be accessed as whole words at the lexical level. 相似文献

In this study, we investigate whether attentional focusing, like attentional orienting, comprises two independent mechanisms. We provide direct empirical evidence in favor of the existence of two mechanisms--one exogenous, or automatic, and one endogenous, or voluntary--that play a role in adjusting the size of the focus of attention. When a new object suddenly occurs in the visual field, the focus is first automatically fitted to it, and then an endogenous effort has to be exerted to maintain attention in the focused mode. In Experiment 1, children performed a Simon task after a spatially compatible or incompatible task. Results showed a Simon effect after the spatially compatible task and a reversed Simon effect after the spatially incompatible task. In Experiments 2-5, an identical procedure was adopted with adult participants, who performed the Simon task immediately after, a day after, or a week after the spatial compatibility task. Experiment 6 established a baseline for the Simon effect. Results showed a Simon effect after the spatially compatible task and no Simon effect or a reversed Simon effect after the spatially incompatible task. A modified version of the computational model of M. Zorzi and C. Umiltà (1995) was used to compare possible accounts of the findings. Functional neuroanatomy of cognitive processes is generally derived by subtraction of a control task from an experimental task. We show that this method is logically untenable and propose to replace it with an adaptation of the specific-effect method and of the additive-factor method. The basic flaw that undermines the subtractive method is the comparison between different tasks. We argue that the specific-effect method should be used when investigating activations produced by different levels of a qualitative variable, whereas the additive-factor method should be used for quantitative variables. The use of these methods allows one to distinguish between parallel and serial stages of processing and between local and distributed processing. 相似文献

This paper reports a study that was aimed to rehabilitate executive functions in closed head injury (CHI) and anterior communicating
artery (ACoA) aneurysm patients. The groups tested comprised 10 CHI patients, 9 ACoA aneurysm patients and 19 controls. We
employed a dual-task paradigm that is known to tap the ability to co-ordinate two actions. The treatment consisted of five
experimental sessions, in which the dual-task paradigm was used. In the CHI study, the dual-task cost was measured before
the treatment (assessment), immediately after the treatment (retest), and 3 months after the treatment (follow-up). In the
ACoA aneurysm study, the dual-task cost was also assessed 12 months after the treatment. A significant reduction of the dual-task
cost from assessment to retest was found. This reduction remained stable in the follow-up sessions. The results are discussed
with reference to the absence of spontaneous recovery of this specific executive function and to the possibility that the
beneficial effect of the treatment generalises to other executive functions and/or daily living activities.

Disfluencies of 3- and 5-year old Spanish-speaking children 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This study examined the disfluent speech of 32 normally fluent monolingual, Spanish-speaking children from Puerto Rico. The total frequencies and types of speech disfluencies were examined in 15 children (8 girls and 7 boys) aged 3;5-4;0 years (M=3.76) and 17 children (8 girls and 9 boys) aged 5;0-5;5 years (M=5.18). When examining the total frequencies of speech disfluencies, results revealed no main effects for age or gender as well as no interactions. Moreover, no differences were observed between the age groups in most of the disfluency types, including the rank orders of the types. Revisions, interjections, and single-syllable word repetitions were the most frequently observed speech disfluencies for both age groups. Broken words, blocks, and repetitions of more than one syllable were the least frequent. Overall, results revealed both similarities and differences when compared with the reported speech behaviors of English-speaking children. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The reader will learn about and be able to describe: (1). the influence of age and gender on the total frequencies of speech disfluencies in 3- and 5-year old Spanish-speaking children from Puerto Rico; (2). the amount and type of difluencies in these young children; and (3). how the speech disfluencies of these Spanish-speaking children are similar to and different from those reported in the speech of English-speaking children. 相似文献

Hartry Field distinguished two concepts of type‐free truth: scientific truth and disquotational truth. We argue that scientific type‐free truth cannot do justificatory work in the foundations of mathematics. We also present an argument, based on Crispin Wright's theory of cognitive projects and entitlement, that disquotational truth can do justificatory work in the foundations of mathematics. The price to pay for this is that the concept of disquotational truth requires non‐classical logical treatment. 相似文献
