INTERVENING AT THE BOTTOM: ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH ENLISTED PERSONNEL IN AN ARMY WORK-SETTING1

If Organizational Development technology is expected to have an effect on soldier perceptions, attitudes, and performance, then it must be assured that OD interventions adequately penetrate to their level. This may not be likely to occur in a multi-layered Army organization. This study examines the effects of a series of OD techniques in an Army organization where penetration was assured by dealing directly with the troops at the lowest levels. The results showed positive changes in soldier perceptions and performance following an OD program including survey feedback, participative problem-solving, and job enrichment techniques.     

How to avoid developmental effects in free recall

Immediate and final free recall was tested in children from grades 4, 6, and 8, using lists of words and lists of tasks which the children performed. The expected developmental effect was found in both the immediate and the final free recall of the words, but there were no significant differences in the recall of the tasks as a function of age. These data are discussed within the Flavell-Brown framework of strategic and nonstrategic memory tasks.     

FACTORS AFFECTING VALIDITY OF A REGIONALLY ADMINISTERED ASSESSMENT CENTER

Validity coefficients for a single assessment center implemented in multiple locations are presented. Correction for range restriction, criterion unreliability, and sampling error did not account for a large portion of the variability in these validity coefficients. The type of assessor used, the center's administrative arrangement, and prior assessor-assessee contact moderated these validities. It is suggested that the quality of the implementation of a selection procedure when there is local latitude in its implementation is an important factor in determining the procedure's effectiveness.     

Greco's Agent Reliabilism

John Greco's Putting Skeptics in their Place presents an illuminating perspective on the nature of the skeptical problem and how to respond to it. Building on Ernest Sosa's Virtue Epistemology, Greco develops an account of knowledge he calls, "Agent Reliabilism". In this essay, I will take up several issues regarding the details of this account.
