The Visual Aesthetic Sensitivity Test was applied to 1097 Chinese Ss in Singapore, and to 784 English students and children, in order to study the possible influence of cultural factors. Little in the way of differences was observed, the Chinese sample actually scoring slightly better than the European sample on a test designed in the European tradition. The present study examined whether the use of human figure diagrams (HFDs) within a well‐structured interview was associated with more elaborate and clearer accounts about physical contact that had occurred in the course of an alleged abuse. The sample included investigative interviews of 88 children ranging from 4 to 13 years of age. Children were interviewed using the NICHD investigative interview protocol, and were then asked a series of questions in association with unclothed gender‐neutral outline diagrams of a human body. A new coding scheme was developed to examine the types and clarity of touch‐related information. Use of the HFDs was associated with reports of new touches not mentioned before and elaborations regarding the body parts reportedly touched. The HFDs especially helped clarify reports by the oldest rather than the youngest children. The clarity of children's accounts of touch was also greater when details were sought using recall prompts. In six experiments we studied the effects of a single re-exposure to a conditioned stimulus (CS; "retrieval trial") prior to extinction training (extinction-reconsolidation boundary) on the development of and recovery from fear extinction. A single retrieval trial prior to extinction training significantly augmented the renewal and reinstatement of extinguished responding. Augmentation of recovery was not observed if the retrieval and extinction training occurred in different contexts. These results contrast with those reported in earlier papers by Monfils and coworkers in rats and by Schiller and coworkers in humans. We suggest that these contrasting results could depend on the contrasting influences of either: (1) occasion-setting contextual associations vs. direct context-CS associations formed as a consequence of the retrieval trial or (2) discrimination vs. generalization between the circumstances of conditioning and extinction. 相似文献

The current study investigated the relationships between current attachment to mother and attachment to romantic partners, and the role of current partner support and culture as moderators of that relationship. University students who were currently in a romantic relationship were recruited from Hong Kong and USA, and completed measures on attachment styles and partner support. Results showed that maternal attachment anxiety was correlated with romantic attachment anxiety; maternal attachment avoidance was correlated with romantic attachment avoidance, but this linkage varied by level of current partner support. Romantic attachment avoidance was also associated with current partner support, but this linkage was stronger for HK Chinese than for Americans. These results are discussed in terms of how interpersonal and personality factors promoted by culture can affect the developmental course of romantic relationships. 相似文献

The personal beliefs of teachers and the cultural traditions of society can have significant effects on the adjustment of
children in changing family situations. This paper explores primary school teachers’ perception of children coping with difficult
family situations and family changes in the hybrid context of Hong Kong, where Westernization meets with Chinese culture.
A qualitative case study methodology was used. Thirty one teachers of different ages, experience, and roles at school were
interviewed. The finding shows that teachers were on the whole quite traditional in their perception of children in difficult
family situations despite the co-existence of modern ideas of marriage with traditional family values. Implications of the

Myopic perception of having a deadline in negotiations: An anchoring effect due to question order 下载免费PDF全文
In negotiations, people tend to perceive a deadline as more detrimental to themselves than to their opponents. This phenomenon is termed myopic perception. The present research proposes that myopic perception can be understood as a result of an anchoring effect due to the question order used in probing the perception of a deadline. When people estimate deal prices before rating the influence of a deadline, their judgements are anchored on their negotiation outcomes, making their perception egocentric, which leads to myopic perception. As a result, myopic perception was hypothesized to be reduced by reversing the above question order to change the respondents' judgement anchor from negotiation outcomes to negotiation procedures. In Study 1, myopic perception disappeared when participants rated the general influence of a deadline before estimating deal price in a negotiation scenario. In Study 2, pairs of participants negotiated under a tight deadline. Myopic perception of a deadline was manipulated before the negotiation. Dyads without myopic perception had a smaller discrepancy in reservation price. However, myopic perception had no effect on impasse rates or final deal prices. The results are discussed with respect to behavioural forecasting and practical implications of myopic perception. 相似文献

The current study investigated the influence of maternal ADHD symptoms on: (a) mothers’ own social functioning; (b) their
child’s social functioning; and (c) parent–child interactions following a lab-based playgroup involving children and their
peers. Participants were 103 biological mothers of children ages 6–10. Approximately half of the children had ADHD, and the
remainder were comparison youth. After statistical control of children’s ADHD diagnostic status and mothers’ educational attainment,
mothers’ own inattentive ADHD symptoms predicted poorer self-reported social skills. Children with ADHD were reported to have
more social problems by parents and teachers, as well as received fewer positive sociometric nominations from playgroup peers
relative to children without ADHD. After control of child ADHD status, higher maternal inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity
each predicted children having more parent-reported social problems; maternal inattention predicted children receiving more
negative sociometric nominations from playgroup peers. There were interactions between maternal ADHD symptoms and children’s
ADHD diagnostic status in predicting some child behaviors and parent–child relationship measures. Specifically, maternal inattention
was associated with decreased prosocial behavior for children without ADHD, but did not influence the prosocial behavior of
children with ADHD. Maternal inattention was associated with mothers’ decreased corrective feedback and, at a trend level,
decreased irritability toward their children with ADHD, but there was no relationship between maternal inattention and maternal
behaviors for children without ADHD. A similar pattern was observed for maternal hyperactivity/impulsivity and mothers’ observed

Research suggests that people with high social anxiety trait may be more inclined to interact through computer-mediated communication (CMC). The psychological underpinnings of this inclination however remained unclear. The present research thus examines if cognitive appraisal bias (i.e. heighten estimation of social risk and deflated self-efficacy) would mediate the relationship between social anxiety and one’s perception of CMC attributes, contributing to a differential pattern of responses in CMC use. Four hundred and ten adolescents aged 12-18 years completed a set of self-reported measures tapping social anxiety trait, cognitive appraisals, perception of CMC attributes, and pattern of CMC social responses. Structural equation modeling lent support to the mediating role of the cognitive appraisal factors. Those with higher social anxiety trait would attach higher self-relevance to the CMC attributes, and engage in a more socially-involved pattern of interpersonal responses in CMC. The present study explored the nature of attention control problems associated with ruminative traits. Experiment 1 aimed to establish the validity of a modified mental counting task that assesses individuals' ability to switch attention between internal mental representations. Reaction time and brain activity (event related potential; ERP) measures were examined, and results showed that the task was sensitive to internal attention switching effects. Experiment 2 assessed how the relationship between ruminative tendencies and switching performance differs when participants attend to neutral versus affective materials under different mood states. Although reaction-time analysis suggested that both mood condition and stimulus affectivity were not significant in altering this association, ERP analysis suggested otherwise. A significant task type×trait rumination × mood condition effect was found for switch-related ERP responses, whereby high ruminators were found to deploy more neuronal resources when switching affective materials in sad mood state. 相似文献
