A model is proposed that describes subject behavior on repeat paired comparison preference tests. The model extends prior work in this area in that it explicitly allows for abstentions and permits the derivation of individual true scores for discrimination ability as well as conditional estimates of proportionate preference. With these results, the properties of a paired comparison test can be thoroughly explored. An empirical example is presented, and test design issues are considered. In particular, repeat paired comparison preference tests are shown to be inherently less efficient discrimination tests than are pick 1 of 2 tests.  相似文献

This research developed a model for forensic release decisions that incorporated actuarial and psychiatric predictors. The model was based on research that compared 127 insanity acquittees in the State of Maryland with a matched control group of 127 convicted felons and a comparison group of 135 mentally disordered prison transfers. The three cohorts were followed for an average of 10 years after release from hospital or prison. Findings on two outcome indicators are reported in this article: rearrests within 5 years after release and overall functioning in the community during 2½ years after release. Discriminant analysis was performed on the outcome variable of rearrest; it was found to accurately predict the outcome of 75% of the subjects with the following six variables: adjustment in hospital, clinical assessment of hospital staff, Global Assessment Scale score at release, functioning prior to instant offense, heroin addiction, and birth order. A second discriminant analysis identified seven variables that accurately predicted the overall functioning of 80.4% of the insanity acquittees.  相似文献

A method is developed for estimating the response time distribution of an unobserved component in a two-component serial model, assuming the components are stochastically independent. The estimate of the component's density function is constrained only to be unimodal and non-negative. In a natural setting, helping was investigated as a function of a female requestor's dependency on the subject for help and whether or not she was at fault for her plight. Based on previous research and the hypothesized operation of two norms, it was predicted that the negligent requestor would be more likely to receive help than the victim of circumstance when her dependency was high, but would be less likely to receive help when her dependency was low. Randomly selected telephone subscribers received a “wrong number” telephone call from a stranded women motorist. The woman asked the subject to make a phone call for her; the dependent variable was whether the subject helped by making the call. Results were consistent with predictions. When dependency is high, the victim's negligence appears to operate as an indication of greater need, whereas when dependency is low, it seems to operate as a sign that the victim is less deserving of help. Results were discussed in relation to different social norms that may be activated as a function of the dependency of the requestor.  相似文献

Cognitive capacity usage during reading was measured in two experiments. During reading of a 27-page passage on marine biology, text-relevant inserted questions, irrelevant questions, or no questions were answered by undergraduates. Cognitive capacity usage increased when text-relevant questions began but not when irrelevant questions began or when no questions were given. The increase in cognitive capacity usage was largest on pages immediately following questions. Cognitive capacity is used in the elaborative stages of text processing.  相似文献
