Following John Rawls, writers like Bernard Williams and Christine Korsgaard have suggested that a transparency condition should
be put on ethical theories. The exact nature of such a condition and its implications is however not anything on which there
is any consensus. It is argued here that the ultimate rationale of transparency conditions is epistemic rather than substantively
moral, but also that it clearly connects to substantive concerns about moral psychology. Finally, it is argued that once a
satisfactory form of the transparency condition is formulated, then, at least among the main contenders within ethical theory,
it speaks in favor of a broadly Aristotelian approach to ethical theorizing. 相似文献

In a community-based random sample of 622 elderly persons over 60 years of age, fatigue was assessed by means of the multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI; a self-assessment measure). Higher fatigue values were found with increasing age, particularly physical feelings of fatigue, reduced activity and reduced motivation. Fatigue was associated with depression, with a low health-related quality of life and with subjective physical complaints. Distinct fatigue symptoms in the elderly should therefore be regarded as possible indicators for somatic and/or psychological burdens and should receive diagnostic and therapeutic attention. In the present paper, mean values and percentiles for different age groups over 60 years are given as norm values for the normal population over 60 years of age. 相似文献

Dark vergence depends on the vertical direction of gaze; it decreases with raised gaze and increases with lowered gaze. The vertical direction of gaze can be varied by means or raising or lowering the eyes or by way of tilting the head forward or backward. The effects of both manipulations on dark vergence are different. According to Heuer (1988) the effects of head tilt and eye inclination on dark vergence are almost, but not exactly, additive. In Exp. 1 the hypothesis of additive effects of gaze direction and eye inclination was tested and could not be rejected. The two additive hypotheses (head tilt and eye inclination vs. gaze inclination and eye inclination) result in different predictions for dark vergence with "compensatory" head and eye inclinations, which leave the direction of gaze in space invariant. In Exp. 2 it was shown that predictions from both hypotheses deviated from the observed values of dark vergence. Thus none of the two additive hypotheses provides exact predictions of dark vergence for all possible combinations of head tilt and eye inclination. For practical purposes the approximation might be sufficient. In particular, although mean dark vergence cannot be predicted exactly, individual differences can be predicted quite accurately. 相似文献

The paper starts with a presentation of the pure happiness theory, i.e. the idea that the quality of a person’s life is dependent
on one thing only, viz. how happy that person is. To find out whether this type of theory is plausible or not, I examine the
standard arguments for and against this theory, including Nozick’s experience machine argument. I then investigate how the
theory can be modified in order to avoid the most serious objections. I first examine different types of epistemic modifications
of the theory (e.g. the idea that a person’s happiness is more valuable for her if it is based on a correct perception of
her own life), and then turn to a number of modifications which all make the value of a person’s happiness depend on whether
the evaluative standard on which her happiness is based satisfies certain requirements. In connection with this, I present

In the context of the discussion about a reform of psychotherapeutic training in Germany the question arises, which factors influence the decision of psychologists and physicians for a particular training. 343 candidates in psychodynamic, behavioural or psychoanalytic training were asked about their motives for the training, their professional objectives in general and their satisfaction with their choice of training. The candidates' decision for a particular training was associated with personal attitudes and professional goals, with the given information about psychotherapeutic treatment within their studies and with their field of study. For the most part, the respondents are not satisfied with the quality and quantity of information on psychotherapeutic treatment within their studies. Candidates in analytic training are altogether more satisfied with their choice of training and do not plan to start an additional psychotherapeutic training as often as candidates in behavioral training. The consequences of these results in particular for the medical and psychological curricula (a more balanced representation of psychotherapeutic methods) are discussed. 相似文献

Auditory text presentation improves learning with pictures and texts. With sequential text–picture presentation, cognitive models of multimedia learning explain this modality effect in terms of greater visuo‐spatial working memory load with visual as compared to auditory texts. Visual texts are assumed to demand the same working memory subsystem as pictures, while auditory texts make use of an additional cognitive resource. We provide two alternative assumptions that relate to more basic processes: First, acoustic‐sensory information causes a retention advantage for auditory over visual texts which occurs no matter if a picture is presented or not. Second, eye movements during reading hamper visuo‐spatial rehearsal. Two experiments applying elementary procedures provide first evidence for these assumptions. Experiment 1 demonstrates that, regarding text recall, the auditory advantage is independent of visuo‐spatial working memory load. Experiment 2 reveals worse matrix recognition performance after reading text requiring eye movements than after listening or reading without eye movements.
