The present investigation addressed two major issues. The first issue is the effect on sexual arousal of increasing a S's self-directed genital focus during different intensities of erotic stimulation. It was found that increasing one's focus on genital cues during low-arousing stimuli decreased physiological arousal, but actually facilitated genital arousal at high-intensity stimulation. This finding brings into question the previous assumption that increased focus on erectile responding or ‘spectatoring’ has universally negative consequences. The second issue concerns the extent of response-system concordance for the physiological and subjective measures of sexual arousal. Two methods of measuring such agreement are proposed. These methods allow for the assessment of response-system concordance for both intensity and direction. These two parameters of concordance were then examined under different levels of arousal and under the two attentiona! focus conditions to ascertain if situational factors would affect response-system agreement. The results indicate that the two measures of concordance are differentially affected by such manipulations. Implications for the measurement of sexual arousal are discussed.  相似文献

The Experiencing Scale, a process research instrument used to assess the process of self-exploration in psychotherapy, was applied to both clients and therapists in group psychotherapy. The instrument was used to study the process of development in the group as a whole, and to study how individual patterns of self-exploration are affected by the group's developmental process. Initial results exemplify how the scale can be used to explore these processes. At the whole group level, the scale reflects change points or shifts in the group's development from one phase to another. At the individual level, comparison of data between individual members reveals a charcteristic turn-taking pattern of self-sexploration in phase three of the group's development.  相似文献

A treatment program designed to increase the percentage of negative urine tests was implemented using a multiple-baseline across groups design in a sample of 19 families of children with insulin dependent diabetes. The treatment involved instructions in insulin adjustment, decrease in intake of simple sugars and saturated fats, and increase in exercise, along with teaching the parents to support improvements in children's self-regulatory behaviors using a point economy and praise. New proocedures designed to measure and reinforce adherence to the urine testing regimen were developed. Results showed significant increases in percentage of negative urines consistent with implementation of treatment across the three treatment groups, which were maintained over the follow-up period. Metabolic measures of control, including glycosylated hemoglobin and serum glucose did not show improvements even though the relationship between the percentage of negative urine tests and glycosylated hemoglobin was very high during treatment.  相似文献

The food choices of protein-deprived juvenile rats were more profoundly affected by interaction with conspecifics than were the food choices of protein-replete juvenile rats. When choosing among four different-flavored, protein-deficient diets, protein-deprived rats ate significantly more of the diet eaten by a conspecific demonstrator than did protein-replete rats. These data suggest that the food choices of the relatively less successful members of a population are most affected by social interaction. Consequently, the mean effect of social interaction on diet selection in a population of Norway rats is likely to be positive.  相似文献

A striking finding reported by Beck, Sutter, and Ivry (1987) was that, in textures composed of regions differentiated by the arrangement (checks and stripes) of two texture elements (light and dark squares), a large lightness difference between the squares could fail to yield segregation between the regions, whereas a smaller lightness difference could sometimes yield strong segregation. In the experiments reported here, we compared the segregation of striped and checked arrangements of light and dark squares into regions with the segregation of two randomly interspersed populations of light and dark squares into subpopuiations. Perceived lightnesses are the same for a given set of squares, whether they are arranged in regions or in intermixed populations. Perceived population segregation is approximately a single-valued function of the lightness differences of the squares, but perceived region segregation is not. The reason for the difference between population segregation and region segregation may be that region segregation is mediated by detectors’ having large oriented receptive fields (large bar detectors) that are sensitive to the fundamental spatial frequency and orientation of the texture region as defined by the arrangement of the squares (Beck et al., 1987; Sutter, Beck, & Graham, 1989). These detectors cannot be responsible for population segregation, because the light and dark squares are distributed randomly throughout these patterns and therefore do not define a consistent arrangement of any particular spatial frequency or orientation. The light and dark squares in the population patterns fall equally on excitatory and inhibitory regions of large bar detectors. A plausible explanation for population segregation is to suppose that the segregation is the result of similarity grouping of the light and dark squares.  相似文献

Two experiments studied the peripheral discriminability of a target differing in its line slope (a tilted T) and in its line arrangement (an L) when presented in briefly flashed displays of upright Ts. The results showed that: (a) an L and a tilted T were equal in discriminability when attention was focused or concentrated on one display position, (b) the discriminability of an L decreased while the discriminability of a tilted T was not statistically significantly affected as the number of display positions that attention needed to be paid to increased, and (c) the reaction time to find a disparate tilted T was less than that to find a disparate L. The results are interpreted as supporting the hypothesis that, under distributed attention in peripheral vision, the visual system is more sensitive to differences in line slope than to differences in line arrangement The results are discussed in connection with hypotheses of how selective attention affects the discriminability of a target.  相似文献

Position uncertainty was used to guarantee that an S’s attention was distributed equally over a visual display. Diminishing discriminability through a masking flash, which controlled the time available to attend selectively to the individual figures in the display, increased the relative discriminability of figures differing in their line slope as compared to figures differing in their line arrangement. Diminishing discriminability through decreasing the clarity of a visual trace by reducing exposure duration did not increase the relative discriminability of figures differing in their line slopes. It is suggested that the discriminability of differences in line slope and in line arrangement varies with the distribution of attention. The results are interpreted as supporting the hypothesis that, under distributed attention in peripheral vision, the visual system is more sensitive to differences in line slope than to differences in line arrangement.  相似文献
