The “ten‐year rule” suggests that it takes about 10 years of preparation to reach “expert” status. How long does it take, however, for someone to reach a level of creative greatness? Through an analysis of 215 contemporary fiction writers, we found that these writers took an average of 10.6 years between their first publication and their best publication, although there was a high degree of variability. This tentatively suggests that at least for modern fiction writers, a second phase after the first ten years may be crucial for achieving eminence. We discuss these findings in the context of results found in other domains of creativity, along with limitations and future directions.  相似文献

In this chapter, Dr. Callen presents a summary of several issues that have been faced by higher education institutions in the Church of God movement. Measures of communication deviance derived from three different Rorschach situations were obtained from parents of 62 children vulnerable to future psychiatric disturbance. The families were maritally intact, with one parent having a history of previous psychiatric hospitalization and a male index child, 7 or 10 years of age. Amount of parental communication deviance in one situation was not significantly related to amount of communication deviance observed in another setting. However, mothers who exhibited high levels of communication deviance in both the Individual and Family Consensus situations tended to have offspring who were judged as low functioning in multiple settings, based on teacher ratings, peer ratings, and parental report. Conversely, children judged as high functioning in multiple settings had mothers who were free of high levels of communication deviance in both Rorschach situations.  相似文献

The relationships between experienced role conflict and ambiguity and four individual and interpersonal variables were examined within a multivariate framework. The regressions of role conflict and ambiguity on these variables were significant and were generally supported across three job categories in one organizational setting. Differences were noted across the job categories in terms of the regression equation predicting role perceptions. Hence, it appears that the underlying equations regarding the influence of individual and interpersonal variables on role perceptions do vary in different job categories. Task characteristics are offered as plausible reasons for these variations and suggested as variables for inclusion in a model of role conflict and ambiguity.  相似文献

The present study showed that researchers must consider underlying data structure when using hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis to group jobs. Five cluster procedures were applied to four simulated data sets constructed to reflect common job analysis situations. The structures contained jobs varying in degree of task overlap, number of tasks performed, and relative number of people doing the jobs. Average linkage/distance was the most accurate procedure when jobs had highly positively correlated task profiles, a situation characteristic of jobs within a career family over a restricted range of levels. Average linkage/correlation was the most accurate for three other structures containing jobs whose profiles were not highly positively correlated. Such are characteristically found when analyzing (a) jobs in different functional units, (b) jobs over a wide range of hierarchical levels such as entry to advanced, and (c) jobs differing markedly in the number of incumbents.  相似文献
