A longitudinal sample of over 800 MBA graduates surveyed across a 16-year period was recruited to investigate the relationship
of work values to work effort, salary levels, and other work outcomes. As predicted, certain work values were related to higher
salary levels and to the number of hours worked. Changing companies more often and receiving more promotions were also significantly
related to work values. Work values did not differ for women and men in the sample, except that women were higher in the value
of wanting to do an excellent job. Controlling for work values did not explain significantly higher salaries for men as compared

The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of auditory information for rotation of the shortest way in twelve 6- to 9-month-old sighted infants. Behavior was manipulated by means of an auditory stimulus presented in four different directional angles (90°, 112.5°, 135°, and 157.5°) to the right and to the left behind the infants, and in one non-directional angle (180°). Infants lay in a prone position and had magnetic trackers fastened to the head and body which measured their rotation direction and angular velocity. The results showed that infants not only consistently chose the shortest over the longest way, but also rotated with a higher peak angular velocity as the angle to be covered between themselves and the goal increased. The results did not show significant preferences for one particular rotation direction. The study can contribute to the understanding of the auditory system as a functional listening system where auditory information is used as a perceptual source for prospectively guiding behavior in the environment. 相似文献

The study focused on the cognitive determinants of the accuracy of feeling-of-knowing (FOK) judgments made on episodic memory information. An individual differences approach was used on a sample of healthy older adults assessed on an episodic FOK task and on several neuropsychological measures. At a global level of analysis of FOK accuracy, the contributions of four general cognitive processes--episodic memory, executive functioning, fluid intelligence and processing speed--were examined concurrently. Stepwise regression analyses showed that executive functioning accounted for the major part of variance on FOK accuracy, followed by a significant contribution of episodic memory. After controlling for executive and memory involvement, fluid intelligence and processing speed no longer accounted for significant variance. At a more detailed level of analysis of FOK accuracy, the contributions of three specific executive processes--shifting, updating and inhibition--were assessed. The results revealed shifting function as the primary executive process engaged in the production of accurate FOK judgments in episodic memory. Sexual side effects of antidepressant medications are far more common than initially reported, and their scope, quality, and
duration remain poorly captured in the literature. Antidepressant treatment emergent sexual dysfunctions may decrease clients’
quality of life, complicate psychotherapy, and damage the treatment alliance. Potential damage to the treatment alliance is
greatest when clients have not been adequately informed of risks related to sexual side effects. It had previously been assumed
that sexual side effects always resolve shortly after medications are discontinued. Emerging evidence, however, suggests that
in some individuals, sexual dysfunction side effects may persist indefinitely. The authors argue that all psychologists should
be well-informed about sexual side effects risks of antidepressant medications, should routinely conduct a pre-medication
baseline assessment of sexual functioning, and take an active role in the informed consent process.

It is a commonly held view that Dedekind’s construction of the real numbers is impredicative. This naturally raises the question
of whether this impredicativity is justified by some kind of Platonism about sets. But when we look more closely at Dedekind’s
philosophical views, his ontology does not look Platonist at all. So how is his construction justified? There are two aspects
of the solution: one is to look more closely at his methodological views, and in particular, the places in which predicativity
restrictions ought to be applied; another is to take seriously his remarks about the reals as things created by the cuts,
instead of considering them to be the cuts themselves. This can lead us to make finer-grained distinctions about the extent
to which impredicative definitions are problematic, since we find that Dedekind’s use of impredicative definitions in analysis
can be justified by his (non-Platonist) philosophical views.

Purpose The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship between advice-giving, advice-receiving, and employee work attitudes.
We argue that (1) both advice-receiving and advice-giving will be positively related to job involvement; (2) advice-receiving
will be more strongly associated with work-unit commitment than advice-giving; and (3) job involvement will mediate the relationship
between advice-receiving and work-unit commitment.
Design/methodology/approach We conducted an empirical study of admissions department employees at a large university in southwest Pennsylvania in the
United States. Respondents completed surveys which included questions related to demographics, social network ties, and attitudes.
Findings We found that while advice-giving and advice-receiving were positively related to job involvement, only advice-receiving was
positively related to work-unit commitment. Job involvement fully mediated the relationship between advice-receiving and work-unit
commitment.
Implications Our study (1) shows that advice-giving and advice-receiving are related to important work-related attitudes in organizations;
(2) highlights the importance of the directionality of advice flow, as employees who received as opposed to provided advice
tended to have higher levels of work-unit commitment; and (3) demonstrates that social network ties were related to work-unit
attachment through job involvement.
Originality/value We examine job involvement and work-unit commitment using a social network analysis thus providing new insights about
the relationships between advice-giving, advice-receiving and these important variables.

The race-IQ controversy arose at a time when psychometric views of intelligence dominated. Little attention was paid to more process-oriented models in spite of the fact they provide alternative perspectives on the causes of individual differences in problem-solving. We hypothesized that much of the IQ spread commonly observed between black and white children can be attributed to differences in components of their executive systems, including the knowledge base, control processes, and metacognitive states. To test this possibility, black and white children who differed significantly on fluid and crystallized intelligence were tested on multiple tasks reflecting components of the executive systems as well as on perceptual efficiency tasks. Striking group differences were observed in metamemory, stragegy use, and general knowledge, but few reliable differences were found in perceptual efficiency. Regression analyses showed that different factors predicted fluid and crystallized intelligence, with metamemory predicting the latter but not the former. An implication of these findings has potential educational significance: training directed at executive skills, introduce at an early age, might elevate learning and problem-solving skills in black children, thereby reducing racial differences in crystallized intelligence. 相似文献
