This research examined the degree to which skill and anxiety ratings vary as a function of audio, video, or live rating conditions. The question was addressed through a generalizability analysis which indicated that ratings of skill may generalize across audio, video, or live rating modes and across judges within a mode. However, results for anxiety show that while one can generalize across modes, there is a lack of comparability across judges within modes. This finding indicates the need for more judges in order to obtain acceptable levels of reliability for anxiety. Evidence from a variety of clinical sources concerning the nature of language processing ability within the right cerebral
hemisphere (RH) is reviewed. It appears that the RH is severely deficient with respect to the expressive functions of speech
and writing, but it may possess a significant ability to comprehend language. It has been suggested that the ability of the
RH in this respect may be extensive, but the generality of conclusions drawn seems to be suspect. Evidence from patients with
left hemisphere damage suggests that in some circumstances the RH may ‘take over’ the performance of language functions from
its inoperative partner. Further work should help clarify the conditions under which this takes place. The theory that reading
in deep dyslexia is mediated by the RH is also reviewed. The idea that the RH is able to encode print stimuli into semantic
but not phonological representations, and the possibility that it is selectively able to process imageable nouns, are two
aspects of this theory that are consistent with other sources of evidence concerning RH language ability. However, support

Meditation and progressive relaxation were compared with a self-monitoring control as treatments for symptoms of stress. Subjects were recruited from advertisements in local newspapers and received five sessions of training. All subjects self-monitored stress symptoms throughout the study and had their behavior rated weekly by a spouse/roommate. The progressive relaxation and meditation treatments resulted in a significant reduction of stress symptomatology over time. Little evidence was generated for differential effects of treatments. 相似文献

The study compared the acquisition, generalization, transfer, and maintenance of language comprehension and production responses by persons at two IQ levels: mentally retarded (N = 10) and nonretarded (N = 10). The two levels of the IQ Level factor were combined factorially with two levels of a Training Condition factor: Comprehension-Production and Production Only. Participants in the former groups were trained sequentially to (a) comprehend coin labels by pointing, and then (b) produce verbally the correct coin label. Participants in the Production Only groups were trained on the latter response only. A three-factor mixed design with one repeated measure plus a multiple baseline across coin responses was employed. Results indicated that both mentally retarded and nonretarded subjects attained a high level of acquisition and maintained their performance on 1- and 4-week follow-up tests. No difference occurred between mentally retarded and nonretarded participants in magnitude of acquisition, but the mentally retarded groups took approximately three times as many trials to complete training. Data also suggested, contrary to past research, that generalization from comprehension to production was bidirectional, with no difference in magnitude between mentally retarded and nonretarded subjects. Transfer from comprehension to production occurred in both nonretarded and retarded subjects; comprehension training facilitated a savings of trials in production training. These results show that language differences between retarded and nonretarded persons are quantitative rather than qualitative as some past research may have suggested. 相似文献

The effect of interstimulus interval (ISI) variation on the acquisition of a classically conditioned emotional response was investigated using a one-trial conditioning procedure. The optimum ISI was found to be 10 s with a bidirectional gradient for conditioned suppression at ISI above and below 10 s. In several cases, the acoustic cues underlying a given phoneme depend heavily on its context. The selective adaptation method (Eimas & Corbit, 1973) was used to investigate the existence of detectors sensitive to consonants in any environment, irrespective of their acoustic properties. The first experiment concerned consonants in initial and final position. Repeated presentation of a CV syllable had an adapting effect on a CV continuum but not on a VC continuum. The converse was also true. In a second experiment, a detector for C1V1 was fatigued by repeated presentation of C1V2, even though the adapting C1 had very little acoustically in common with the test C1. It is concluded that there are detectors for phonemes, or possibly features, which respond to a fairly abstract representation of the input, but not so abstract that a C is represented the same in initial and final position. 相似文献

Catecholamine excretion was studied in 36 students under four different conditions, which involved either playing a game of chance, performing psychological tests, watching surgical films or spending the session in inactivity. Adrenaline excretion was shown to be highest during the game session, which was described by the subjects in the most positive terms. This study examines the relative emphasis placed upon social status and prestige in the selection of an occupation and program of study by students in the community-junior college. The following results were noted: (1) Students enrolled in college transfer programs stressed prestige in the selection of an occupation to a greater extent than did those in technical and semi-professional programs. (2) When the students in the sample were grouped according to occupational aspiration level, a positive correlation was found to exist between occupational aspiration level and prestige emphasis. (3) No significant relationship was found to exist between the social status of students and prestige emphasis in the selection of an occupation. 相似文献
