Researchers generally agree that Subjective Wellbeing (SWB) comprises both cognitive and affective components. However, the
proportioning of their contributions, and the relationship between these constructs and personality, remain equivocal. This
study investigated the relationship between these constructs, representing affect by Homeostatically Protected Mood (HPMood).
Using a sample of 205 Victorian high-school students aged between 13 and 20 years, structural equation modeling determined
that an HPMood-driven model of SWB was better fitting than either a personality-driven model of SWB or a cognition-driven
model of SWB, explaining 80% of variance. These results support HPMood as the major component of SWB. They also reinforce
the proposition that HPMood may be the driving force behind individual SWB set-points and the variable that SWB homeostasis

A comprehensive working memory battery and tests of mathematical skills were administered to 90 children-41 in Year 1 (5-6 years of age) and 49 in Year 3 (7-8 years of age). Working memory could explain statistically significant variance in number writing, magnitude judgment, and single-digit arithmetic, but the different components of working memory had different relationships with the different skills. Visual-spatial sketchpad (VSSP) functioning predicted unique variance in magnitude judgments and number writing. Central executive functioning explained unique variance in the addition accuracy of Year 1 children. The unique variance explained in Year 3 multiplication explained by phonological loop functioning just missed conventional levels of significance (p=.06). The results are consistent with the VSSP having a role in the development of number writing and magnitude judgments but a lesser role in early arithmetic. 相似文献

We examined antisocial adolescents’ perceptions of the importance of and their ability to accomplish positive life outcomes
(e.g., employment) and avoid negative ones (e.g., arrests) during their transition from adolescence to young adulthood. Participants
were 1,354 adolescents from the Pathways to Desistance project, a multisite longitudinal study of seriously antisocial adolescents.
Participants’ perceptions of the importance and likelihood of accomplishing positive adult goals at one age uniquely predicted
how often they engaged in behaviors that were consistent with these goals the following year. Our findings suggest that among
serious adolescent offenders aspirations to achieve positive goals are related to engaging in behaviors that bring adolescents’
current selves more in line with their aspired-to future selves. We discuss the implications of these findings for prevention

Objective
This study was designed to extend the use of a memory training technique, known as the repetition-lag procedure, to Alzheimer patients. The specificity of this procedure is to target the process of recollection for improvement.Method
A group of 12 patients were trained individually for 6 h. The training procedure consisted of a series of yes/no recognition tasks in which some words were repeated throughout the test list across gradually increasing delays. Their performance was evaluated on pre-and-post tests and compared with a recognition practice group and a no contact control group.Results
Initially, recollection training patients only performed accurately when the delay between repetitions consisted of one intervening word, but by the end of training their performance increased up to four-word intervals. Interestingly, these benefits generalized to other measures of memory, such as working memory, visual memory and source recognition.Conclusions

An important consideration that needs adding to discussions of patient choice and whether or not men are reluctant to use primary care services is that many frequent attenders are male. The aim of this article is to explore how male frequent attenders construct decisions to use or not use health-care services. This is achieved through secondary analysis of baseline interviews with male frequent attenders from the Self Care in Primary Care study. As this was a complex study, a three-step analytic process was employed to incorporate the involvement of multiple researchers working together over a number of years. First, the interviewer summarised each interview and second, the summaries were read as a group to find themes across them. Subsequently, we returned to the interviews to add detail that would further illustrate or challenge the analysis. Participants talked of 'engaging health and avoiding ill-health', constructing themselves as embodied, health conscious and rational in a similar vein to constructions of feminine interactions with health. While participants talked of 'choosing health services' as if they were drawing upon a range of choices, the dominance of the image of the GP was such that seeing a GP was the only legitimate health choice. 相似文献

Oxytocin facilitates pro-social behaviour and is proposed as a regulatory factor controlling stress reactivity. Previous research on oxytocin and stress has focused on achievement-related stressors among male participants. The aims of the study were to (1) examine the influence of oxytocin on the affective and cortisol response to the Yale Interpersonal Stressor (YIPS), a live social rejection paradigm, and (2) to replicate the finding that women exhibit a greater cortisol response to interpersonal stress than men (Stroud et al. 2002). Sex differences in stress responses: Social rejection versus achievement stress. Biol Psychiat 53:318-327. Ninety-six undergraduate students underwent the YIPS, where participants were excluded from two separate conversations by two same-sex confederates. Salivary cortisol concentrations and mood were repeatedly measured throughout the study. Participants were administered, in a double-blind design, a single dose of intranasal oxytocin (24 IU) or placebo prior to beginning the YIPS. The YIPS elicited a significant negative mood response that was more pronounced in females than in males. However, no significant cortisol response to the stressor and no sex difference in cortisol reactivity were observed. A significant effect of drug condition on cortisol levels was observed. Participants who were administered oxytocin exhibited a decrease in cortisol levels, relative to placebo, during the YIPS, F (4, 184)=4.50, p<0.05. The study failed to replicate the sex difference in the cortisol response to interpersonal stress reported by Stroud et al. (2002). This study investigated the relationship between phonological working memory and spoken language development in a large unselected sample of 4- and 5-year old children. Assessments were made of the language produced by the children on the Bus Story (Renfrew, 1969), a standard test of continuous speech. In this test, children listen to a story, which they then recount with the aid of visual clues. The amount of information recalled and the average length of the five longest utterances are taken as indices of children's expressive language abilities. Phonological working memory skills were indexed by memory span and the ability to repeat non-words. The ability to repeat non-words made a significant contribution to the variance in the children's speech independently of age, vocabulary knowledge, and nonverbal cognitive skills. The possible mechanisms by which skills assessed by phonological memory tasks may be linked to the development of speech production abilities are considered. 相似文献
