A new 3-stage model based on neuroimaging evidence is proposed by Chein and Schneider (2012). Each stage is associated with different brain regions, and draws on cognitive abilities: the first stage on creativity, the second on selective attention, and the third on automatic processing. The purpose of the present study was to scrutinize the validity of this model for 1 popular learning paradigm, visuomotor adaptation. Participants completed tests for creativity, selective attention and automated processing before attending in a pointing task with adaptation to a 60° rotation of visual feedback. To examine the relationship between cognitive abilities and motor learning at different times of practice, associations between cognitive and adaptation scores were calculated repeatedly throughout adaptation. The authors found no benefit of high creativity for adaptive performance. High levels of selective attention were positively associated with early adaptation, but hardly with late adaptation and de-adaptation. High levels of automated execution were beneficial for late adaptation, but hardly for early and de-adaptation. From this we conclude that Chein and Schneider's first learning stage is difficult to confirm by research on visuomotor adaptation, and that the other 2 learning stages rather relate to workaround strategies than to actual adaptive recalibration.  相似文献

The hardness of deformation-induced α’- martensite and parent austenitic matrix in high-alloy CrMnNi steel was investigated by nanoindentation measurements inside scanning electron microscope using picoindenter. After the indentation, the microstructure was investigated by electron backscattered diffraction measurements. The hardness values for α’-martensite are only 24% higher than those of austenite. Thus, the increase in strength during the formation of deformation-induced α’-martensite is rather caused by the small grain size of α’-nuclei resulting in a dynamic Hall–Petch effect than by its “intrinsic” hardness.  相似文献

Visual perception of human actions was investigated in a long-term priming experiment. On each trial in the priming phase, participants were presented with a pair of short motion animations showing a person performing a particular whole body movement and had to decide whether the actions were the same or different. In the testing block, the same observers had to determine whether static pictures of a human model showed a possible or an impossible body pose. For each test posture, a subject either (1) had seen a priming animation in which the actor would have reached the test posture if the animation had lasted longer, (2) had seen an animation in which the actor would have been in the test posture if the animation had started earlier, or (3) had not seen a related priming animation. Reliable facilitatory priming effects were obtained only when the test posture was preceded by a motion sequence that would have resulted in the test posture if the human model had continued the action. The findings support the hypothesis that, when confronted with a human action, observers anticipate the future posture of the actor and that this anticipation facilitates later identification of the posture.  相似文献

The identification of human actions and body postures viewed from different viewpoints was examined in four long-term priming experiments with static pictures of a human model. In Experiments 1 and 2 participants had to name or describe the pictures, and in Experiments 3 and 4 participants had to decide whether the pictures showed a possible or impossible body pose. Reliable priming effects were obtained only when priming and primed action or pose shared the same in-depth orientation (Experiments 1 and 4) and left-right reflection (Experiments 2 and 3). Having seen the same action or pose in a different orientation did not reliably facilitate identification performance later on. Also, there was no priming for poses that are impossible to perform with a human body, not even when an identical same-view prime was used. These findings suggest that the stored representations that mediate the identification of human actions and postures are viewpoint specific.  相似文献

Based on assumptions of the Job Demands–Resources model and the Person–Environment fit literature, the present research conceptualizes an intrinsic relative to an extrinsic work value orientation as a personal resource. We examine whether such an orientation may strengthen the relations of classical job resources (i.e., autonomy and learning opportunities) with well-being outcomes. The results in a large, representative sample of Dutch employees (N = 4009) show that a predominant intrinsic work orientation strengthened the negative association of learning opportunities with emotional exhaustion as well as the buffering role of autonomy for the health-impairing impact of workload. With respect to work engagement, a predominant intrinsic work orientation strengthened the positive association of autonomy, the expected boosting impact of workload on the stimulating association of autonomy, as well as the—rather unexpected—attenuating impact of workload on the positive association of learning opportunities with work engagement. Although not all hypotheses were confirmed, in general, results point at the importance and practical relevance of personal resources in the realm of the Job Demands–Resources model.  相似文献

The article seeks out the regulations about public health in the oldest medieval statutes of fourteen cities of the eastern Croatian Adriatic coast, between the thirteenth and sixteenth century. The research revealed numerous examples of direct or indirect ways of protecting public health. Through the analyzed documents, a noteworthy relationship between public morality and public health can be noted. The described rules are important as a reflection of awareness about public health as a condition of survival and progress in the past. They witness a progressive transition from an original common law into a written law as well as the impact that religion had in influencing people’s general opinion and lifestyle in light of public health problems.  相似文献

Aspects of syntactic complexity and syntactic repair were investigated by comparing the event-related (brain) potentials (ERPs) for sentences of different syntactic complexity to those containing a syntactic violation. Previous research had shown that both aspects of syntactic processing are reflected in a late positivity (P600). Results from the present reading experiment demonstrate, however, that although both processing aspects elicit a late positivity, they are different in distribution. The repair-related positivity preceded by a negativity displayed a centroparietal distribution, whereas the complexity-related positivity showed a frontocentral scalp distribution. These data indicate that the P600 is not a unitary phenomenon. Moreover, the distributional differences strongly suggest that different neural structures underlie the two aspects of processing, namely syntactic repair and syntactic integration difficulties, most evident when processing syntactically complex sentences.  相似文献

All living adults with histopatologically proven diagnosis of low-grade glioma in a Swedish county were identified with help of the Regional Cancer Register, half of them (n = 24) participated in a neuropsychological evaluation. A considerable variation was found in cognitive function within this group of patients, ranging from good ability to severe disturbance. Different patterns of cognitive dysfunction emerged resulting in three subgroups; patients with severe, mild, and minimal selective dysfunction. The patients with severe disturbance had a global dysfunction covering most assessed cognitive domains. Slow information-processing speed was obvious in the subgroups with both severe and mild dysfunction. Cognitive problems present in the best performing group seemed related to tumor localization. Cognitive function in the whole sample was related to histopathological diagnosis of the tumor, as well as to educational level of the patients. The nonworking patients had significantly poorer performance than the working patients.  相似文献

The central bottleneck model of dual-task performance (H. Pashler and J. C. Johnston, 1998, Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 46A, 51-82) and the serial processing model of precue utilization (R. Gottsdanker, 1992, Acta Psychologica, 79, 21-43) are based on a common formal structure: They both represent response time as RT(tau)=max(X-tau, Y)+Z, where X, Y, Z denote the duration of certain processing stages specified by the models and tau denotes the onset asynchrony (SOA) between two stimuli. We consider this model within a stochastic framework in which the stage durations are random variables following an arbitrary joint distribution and derive properties of the function relating E[RT(tau)] to SOA. We present a distribution-free result which relates the slope of this function to the distribution of the random durations of the assumed processing stages. Our results allow for a direct, model-based interpretation of data from related experiments; specifically, they show how the slope of the SOA-function depends on experimental factors which selectively influence individual processing stages. We explain the implications of our results for models of dual-task performance and precue utilization and illustrate their application to data obtained by M. C. Numbers can be represented as number words or as digits, but are the two notations processed differently? Two experiments in which a flanker paradigm with a naming task was used were conducted, with digits and number words as targets and flankers. Reaction times were shortest when the flanker denoted the same numerical value as the target. The numerical distance between the target and a numerically different flanker modulated reaction times in all conditions, except for number word targets with digit flankers. The direction of this effect—targets were named faster when the flanker was numerically close than when it was far—indicates that the numerical magnitude representations of numbers are associatively connected. When the target and the flanker were presented in the same format, no difference was observed in the distance effects for the two formats. This indicates that number words activate the abstract representation of their numerical value in a way that is very similar to that for digits.  相似文献
