Theoretical and empirical research has linked poor emotion regulation abilities with dysfunctional frontolimbic circuitry.
Consistent with this, research on borderline personality disorder (BPD) finds that frontolimbic dysfunction is a predominant
neural substrate underlying the disorder. Emotion regulation is profoundly compromised in BPD. However, BPD is also associated
with broad impairment across multiple domains, including impulse control, interpersonal relationships, and cognitive functioning.
To date, BPD research has focused largely on single areas of dysfunction, failing to account for overlap at either the biological
or behavioral levels of analysis. We examine the literature on frontolimbic dysfunction in BPD within the context of Coan’s
social baseline theory. Social baseline theory proposes that healthy human functioning is dependent upon adequate social support
and that, at baseline, biological systems are adapted to operate interdependently rather than independently. The social baseline
perspective is particularly useful for understanding borderline personality development because the impulsive and emotionally
dysregulated behaviors common among those with BPD occur almost invariably within an interpersonal context. We discuss clinical

We examined the direct relationships between parent and child emotion regulation (ER) strategy use during the transitionary
and understudied developmental periods of middle childhood through to adolescence. Three hundred and seventy-nine participants
aged between 9 and 19 years, completed the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents. In addition, 358
of their mothers and 207 of their fathers completed the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Providing partial support for the
hypothesis, maternal use of the ER Expressive Suppression strategy was significantly predictive of their child’s use of Suppression.
However, paternal ER strategy use was unrelated to their child’s ER strategy use. Child age did not moderate the relationships
investigated. These findings suggest that children’s ER during middle childhood and adolescence is more closely related to
the ER of their mother than their father. It is proposed that this may be accounted for by emotion socialization processes. 相似文献

What-where-when (WWW) memory during cache recovery was investigated in six Clark’s nutcrackers. During caching, both red-
and blue-colored pine seeds were cached by the birds in holes filled with sand. Either a short (3 day) retention interval
(RI) or a long (9 day) RI was followed by a recovery session during which caches were replaced with either a single seed or
wooden bead depending upon the color of the cache and length of the retention interval. Knowledge of what was in the cache
(seed or bead), where it was located, and when the cache had been made (3 or 9 days ago) were the three WWW memory components
under investigation. Birds recovered items (bead or seed) at above chance levels, demonstrating accurate spatial memory. They
also recovered seeds more than beads after the long RI, but not after the short RI, when they recovered seeds and beads equally
often. The differential recovery after the long RI demonstrates that nutcrackers may have the capacity for WWW memory during

Driven by recent accreditation mandates, a changing legal environment, and multiple high-visibility corporate ethics scandals,
many business schools are responding to the growing movement within higher education to integrate ethics into the curricula.
The literature suggests that the amount of attention given to ethics varies widely among institutions, and has not been coherently
developed. Moreover, institutions have struggled to tie related projects and instruction to the overall concept of assurance
of student learning. The purpose of this paper is to provide a framework for institutions interested in creating an interdisciplinary
business ethics program that combines critical success factors, assurance of student learning and continuous quality improvement.
Using a nationally recognized business school’s ethics program, we provide an example of how our model can be applied at other

Latina women are vulnerable to poor body image, eating disorders, and obesity, particularly during the college years. This study sought to identify common cultural antecedents of these concerns in order to inform the development of prevention programs for this population. Six groups of university students who identified as Latina (N=27) discussed cultural aspects of body image, eating disorders, and obesity. Thematic analysis identified four main themes: (a) cultural disparities in body-ideal, including the influence of the media and acculturation issues; (b) messages about body shape and weight received by family, peers, and society; (c) difficulties making healthy eating and physical activity choices as a function of college life; and (d) the influence of peers and potential male partners on body satisfaction and body-ideals. These results have implications for the development of programs targeting body dissatisfaction and risk for eating disorders and obesity in Latina college women. 相似文献

A cognitive style marked by emphasis on autonomy has been linked to negative outcomes throughout the life span. Two preliminary studies are presented that examined factors on a measure of autonomy (Personal Style Inventory‐Revised) in relation to propensity for suicidal behavior (Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire‐14; SBQ‐14). Perfectionism, B = .15, SE = 0.03, p < .01, and Defensive Separation, B = .04, SE = 0.01, p ≤ .01, predicted SBQ‐14 in younger adults. Need for Control, B = .234, SE = 0.10, p < .05, predicted SBQ‐14 in older adults. Findings suggest that aspects of autonomy may be relevant to understanding suicidal behavior; however, more research is needed examining the association between autonomy and suicidal behavior in the context of depression. We show that retrieval from semantic memory is vulnerable even to the mere presence of speech. Irrelevant speech impairs semantic fluency--namely, lexical retrieval cued by a semantic category name--but only if it is meaningful (forward speech compared to reversed speech or words compared to nonwords). Moreover, speech related semantically to the retrieval category is more disruptive than unrelated speech. That phonemic fluency--in which participants are cued with the first letter of words they are to report--was not disrupted by the mere presence of meaningful speech, only by speech in a related phonemic category, suggests that distraction is not mediated by executive processing load. The pattern of sensitivity to different properties of sound as a function of the type of retrieval cue is in line with an interference-by-process approach to auditory distraction. 相似文献

The role of memory in behavioral distraction by auditory attentional capture was investigated: We examined whether capture is a product of the novelty of the capturing event (i.e., the absence of a recent memory for the event) or its violation of learned expectancies on the basis of a memory for an event structure. Attentional capture-indicated by disruption of a focal visually presented serial recall task-was found when the voice conveying a concurrent irrelevant auditory sequence changed every 5 recall trials (from male to female or vice versa). There was no evidence of attentional capture when the irrelevant sequence was first encountered and hence novel; capture occurred only when an expectation for a particular voice had been learned and then violated. Furthermore, with the increasing predictability of (and hence expectancy for) the voice changes across the experimental session, the capture response diminished only to be reinstated when that session-wide expectation was itself violated by a break in the change-every-5-trials pattern. The results highlight the critical role of learned expectations, as opposed to novelty detection, in behavioral auditory attentional capture. 相似文献
