Previous studies linking parent ADHD symptoms to parenting have typically focused on each parent individually. To provide a broader understanding of family context, in this study, levels of inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity in mothers and fathers were examined, both individually and in combination, in relation to negative parenting and child-rearing disagreements. Two-parent families of 5 to 13 year old boys (126 with ADHD and 53 typically developing) participated. Parents reported their own ADHD symptoms and their perceptions of child-rearing disagreements. Parenting was measured using self-, partner-, and child-reports as well as observations. Controlling for child ADHD symptoms, inattention symptoms in fathers predicted parenting difficulties. For mothers, inattention symptoms were linked to parenting problems only when fathers also had high levels of inattention. In contrast, parenting was most problematic for both mothers and fathers in families in which fathers had higher and mothers had lower levels hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms. These results remained essentially unchanged when child externalizing behavior and mother depression and hostility were controlled, but father depression reduced the significance of some interactions. The results highlight the importance of the match between father and mother levels of symptoms, and point to differential relations of parenting to inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms in parents. 相似文献

On the basis of activation theory and the challenge-hindrance demands model, this study was conducted to clarify the functional form (linear vs. curvilinear) of the within-persons relations of time pressure with vigour and absorption. Further, we investigated whether these relations would be moderated by time-varying job control. A total of 52 full-time employees (44% female) participated in the study, which included two assessments per day over the course of 2 work weeks. Our analyses confirmed an inverted U-shaped within-persons association between state time pressure and state vigour and a moderator effect of job control on the curvilinear relation. By contrast, state time pressure and state absorption displayed only a positive linear relation. This study demonstrates that within-persons high levels of time pressure may impair employees’ energy levels but still promote their absorption at work. 相似文献

The main objective of this study is to investigate memory task performance in different age groups, irrespective of hearing status. Data are collected on a short-term memory task (WAIS-III Digit Span forward) and two working memory tasks (WAIS-III Digit Span backward and the Reading Span Test). The tasks are administered to young (20–30 years, n = 56), middle-aged (50–60 years, n = 47), and older participants (70–80 years, n = 16) with normal hearing thresholds. All participants have passed a cognitive screening task (Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)). Young participants perform significantly better than middle-aged participants, while middle-aged and older participants perform similarly on the three memory tasks. Our data show that older clinically normal hearing persons perform equally well on the memory tasks as middle-aged persons. However, even under optimal conditions of preserved sensory processing, changes in memory performance occur. Based on our data, these changes set in before middle age. 相似文献

Although links between body image and dieting behaviors have been established among women, little research is available to
elucidate relations between these constructs among men. In the present study, we examined relations between men's and women's
body image and healthy and unhealthy dieting behaviors. Two hundred and eight participants' (104 men, mean age = 25.88 years;
104 women, mean age = 23.87 years) body perceptions and body satisfaction were assessed using the Contour Drawing Rating Scale.
Participants' dieting behaviors were assessed using the Weight Control Behavior Scale and weight status was assessed using
body mass index (BMI). Analyses of relations among BMI, body satisfaction, and healthy dieting behaviors revealed a predictable
pattern for both men and women; BMI was inversely related to body satisfaction and was positively related to healthy dieting
behaviors. Body satisfaction was inversely related to both men's and women's healthy and unhealthy dieting behaviors. Further
analyses of the relations between men's and women's body image and unhealthy dieting behaviors suggest different motives for
men's and women's participation in these potentially health-compromising weight-management techniques. Results are discussed
in terms of their contribution to researchers' understanding of the gendered nature of body image and dieting behaviors. 相似文献

We investigated the differential effectiveness of a parent management training program for children with externalizing problem
behavior. The parent management training was tested using a within-subject control group design. 270 families with children
aged 3–10 years were included and assessments were made at 3 months before treatment, immediately before treatment, immediately
after treatment, and at 12 months follow-up. We analyzed data using growth mixture modeling. For attention problems, we obtained
a two-subgroup solution. One subgroup started with high initial values indicating more severe impairment, and the other subgroup
had low initial values. The more impaired group showed stronger treatment effects. For disruptive behavior problems, our analyses
revealed a three-subgroup solution. Two subgroups exhibited high initial levels of disruptive behavior problems and the third
subgroup had low initial levels. One of the more impaired groups exhibited a strong decrease in problem behavior during treatment,
while the other two groups only showed moderate decreases. For attention problems and disruptive behavior problems, some of

Certain types of violent offending are often accompanied by evidence of personality disorders (PDs), a range of heterogeneous conditions characterized by disinhibited behaviours that are generally described as impulsive. The tasks previously used to show impulsivity deficits experimentally (in borderline personality disorder, BPD) have required participants to inhibit previously rewarded responses. To date, no research has examined the inhibition of responding based on Pavlovian stimulus-stimulus contingencies, formally "conditioned inhibition" (CI), in PDs. The present study used a computer-based task to measure excitatory and inhibitory learning within the same CI procedure in offenders recruited from the "personality disorder" and the "dangerous and severe personality disorder" units of a high-security psychiatric hospital. These offenders showed a striking and statistically significant change in the expression of inhibitory learning in a highly controlled procedure: The contextual information provided by conditioned inhibitors had virtually no effect on their prepotent associations. Moreover, this difference was not obviously attributable to nonspecific cognitive or motivational factors. Impaired CI would reduce the ability to learn to control associative triggers and so could provide an explanation of some types of offending behaviour. 相似文献

We examined whether instructional materials describing how to rate child ADHD symptoms would improve the accuracy of mothers’
ratings of ADHD symptoms presented in standard child behavior stimuli, and whether instructions would be equally effective
across a range of maternal depressive symptoms and family incomes. A community sample of 100 mothers with 5 to 12 year old
sons were randomly assigned to either receive or not receive the instructions. All mothers watched standard video recordings
of boys displaying nonproblem behavior, ADHD symptoms, ADHD plus oppositional behaviors, or ADHD plus anxious behaviors, and
then rated the ADHD symptoms of the boys in the videos. These ratings were compared to ratings of the boys’ ADHD symptoms
made by objective coders. Results indicated an interaction such that the instructional materials improved the agreement between
mothers’ and coders’ ratings, but only for mothers at lower family income levels. The instructional materials improved all
mothers’ open-ended responses regarding knowledge of ADHD. All mothers rated more ADHD symptoms in boys with comorbid oppositional
or anxious behaviors, and this effect was not reduced by the instructional materials. The potential utility of these instructions
to improve the accuracy of ratings of child ADHD symptoms is explored. 相似文献

Although relations between children’s personality and health behaviors have been identified, previous research has relied primarily on survey assessments. The present study used behavioral observations to examine children’s (n = 94, mean age = 10.07 years) behavioral patterns in relation to their participation in risk behaviors 1 year later. Results contribute to previous reports linking specific personality traits to children’s likelihood of participation in risky behaviors. Specifically, girls’ participation in risky behavior was related to the expression of behavioral patterns associated with neuroticism, introversion, and disagreeableness, while boys participation in risk behaviors was related to behavioral patterns associated with extraversion and disagreeableness. Findings are discussed in terms of their potential for contributing to health promotion efforts aimed at identifying children most at risk for adopting unhealthy behaviors. 相似文献

This study explores the psychological type profile of Roman Catholic priests. A sample of 79 priests completed the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (Form G). The study shows that Roman Catholic priests tend to prefer introversion over extraversion, feeling over thinking and judging over perceiving. Near equal preferences are shown for sensing and intuition. The type preferences of Roman Catholic priests in the UK are compared and contrasted with the type preferences of Roman Catholic priests in the USA and Protestant clergy in the UK. These findings are explored within the context of the role of the priest within the Roman Catholic Church. 相似文献
