In this study, subjects with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) were matched for age, verbal intelligence, and depression with a group of healthy control subjects. Neuropsychological testing was conducted to assess complex attention, language fluency, receptive language, and visuospatial cognition using tests that would not be affected by impaired motor skill. The subjects with DMD demonstrated poorer functioning on tests of complex attention, verbal fluency, and nonverbal memory functions, suggesting that the cognitive deficits in the DMD population may be specific rather than global in nature. Methodological issues salient to the assessment of intellectual functioning among subjects with DMD and the implications of these data for the further study of cognitive deficits in DMD are discussed. 相似文献

Abstract The superconducting compound YBa2 Cu3O7 and the insulating material La2CuO4 have been examined using liquid-metal ion-induced secondary-ion mass spectrometry. The results revealed surface reactions with moisture as well as some contamination by hydrocarbons. These surface layers were readily sputtered away, but the apparent presence of yttrium, barium and lanthanum hydroxides could play a significant part in their surface conduction characteristics. The relative intensity of the sputtered ion MO+ was found to be a logarithmic function of its dissociation energy. 相似文献

The first stages of thermal relaxation towards equilibrium in a Zr 57 Ti 5 Cu 20 Al 10 Ni 8 bulk metallic glass have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution electron microscopy. These coupled experiments rule out for this glass the existence of a phase separation on the nanometric scale preceding the onset of crystallization. The first step of crystallization is of the primary type, that is it consists of the nucleation of nanocrystallites in the amorphous matrix with which they coexist in metastable equilibrium. The very high nucleation rate leads to a nanometric composite structure with a number density of about 7 2 10 24 m -3 of 3-4nm crystallites, occupying a volume fraction of about 15%. These features, as well as the crystallization kinetics observed during isochronal or isothermal heating, are discussed. 相似文献

Every Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) must carefully plan how to initiate, convene, and terminate therapy. Determining how to ethically terminate therapy in a variety of therapeutic contexts can be challenging. Though termination is a common aspect of all therapeutic relationships, a lack of empirically based information on how to terminate therapy leaves practitioners alone in determining how best to end the treatment relationship. Furthermore, the subject of termination is discussed so scarcely in MFT literature that few authors have attempted to establish a standard for ethical termination. In the current climate of evidence-based services, predetermined session limits, and increased litigation for malpractice, MFTs must examine their termination procedures. This paper identifies the current available literature on termination and discusses the ethical and legal considerations for practicing MFTs as outlined by the AAMFT Code of Ethics (2004). Research and theory suggest that deficits in trait positive affectivity (PA) and in capacity for executive control of attention (i.e., attentional control or AC) may each intensify risk for depressive symptoms associated with high trait negative affectivity (NA). In contrast, high levels of PA and AC should protect against that risk. However, prospective tests of such predictions are rare. Furthermore, if PA and AC both modulate NA-related risk, it remains to be seen if those effects are independent and complementary or if they operate in an overlapping manner. This study assessed baseline temperament and change in depressed mood across one month in a sample of 125 adolescents. Results supported both PA and AC as modulators of NA’s association with changes in depressed mood. Furthermore, results suggested that these modulating effects are largely non-overlapping and complementary, such that when both PA and AC are low, high NA predicts increases in depressed mood. In contrast, high NA predicts decreases in depressed mood when both PA and AC are high. Limitations of these findings, directions for future research, and implications for prevention are discussed. 相似文献

Marya Schechtman has raised a series of worries for the Psychological Continuity Theory of personal identity (PCT) stemming from what Derek Parfit called the ‘Extreme Claim’. This is roughly the claim that theories like it are unable to explain the importance we attach to personal identity. In her recent Staying Alive (2014), she presents further arguments related to this and sets out a new narrative theory, the Person Life View (PLV), which she sees as solving the problems as well as bringing other advantages over the PCT. I look over some of her earlier arguments and responses to them as a way in to the new issues and theory. I will argue that the problems for the PCT and advantages that the PLV brings are all merely apparent, and present no reason for giving up the former for the latter. 相似文献

This study examined attitudes and concerns related to the use of alternative assessments in literacy education courses. A Likert-style twenty-item questionnaire was developed and administered first as a pilot to determine item quality and dimensionality. Three subscales were identified: Self-Evaluation, Peer Evaluation, and Instructor Modeling. The questionnaire was then administered to two sections of one literacy assessment course as pre- and post-course assessments. The results were significant for Self-Evaluation and Peer Evaluation. Results for Instructor Modeling did not reach significance but were generally positive in support of modeling alternative assessment in education classes. Employees in the twenty-first century must be equipped to effectively process information from print and online sources; yet, many students struggle with online research and comprehension skills, making them ill-prepared in college and careers. Utilizing a qualitative exploratory case study design, this study describes how a fourth-grade teacher developed her students’ online research and comprehension skills in small groups using the guided reading framework to frame her instruction. Key findings suggest that the teacher adapted many components of the guided reading framework to develop students’ online inquiry skills. Both the teacher and students experienced role changes and challenges related to the experience, yet students demonstrated high rates of engagement and collaboration. This paper provides a situated example of how a teacher adapted an existing instructional context in her classroom and implications for adapting other popular instructional context, frameworks, and models for supporting teachers in developing students’ digital literacy skills. 相似文献

Flashbacks are a defining feature of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but there have been few studies of their neural basis. We tested predictions from a dual representation model of PTSD that, compared with ordinary episodic memories of the same traumatic event, flashbacks would be associated with activity in dorsal visual stream and related areas rather than in the medial temporal lobe. Participants with PTSD, with depression but not PTSD, and healthy controls were scanned during a recognition task with personally relevant stimuli. The contrast of flashbacks versus ordinary episodic trauma memories in PTSD was associated with increased activation in sensory and motor areas including the insula, precentral gyrus, supplementary motor area, and mid-occipital cortex. The same contrast was associated with decreased activation in the midbrain, parahippocampal gyrus, and precuneus/posterior cingulate cortex. The results were discussed in terms of theories of PTSD and dual-process models of recognition. 相似文献
