Despite researchers’ strong interest in individualism and collectivism (I–C), the conceptualization and measurement of I–C
constructs remain controversial. Through a cross-cultural study, the present research examines the dimensionality of I–C and
tests equivalence of a measurement scale recently developed by Triandis and Gelfand. Through confirmatory factor analyses,
the authors find that conceiving I–C as separate constructs with multiple dimensions is superior and better fits the data.
The measurement scale developed based on such a conceptualization is found warrantable although refinements can be made. The
results suggest a need for future research on further testing the dimensionality and measurement of the individualism and

Richard Jeffrey long held that decision theory should be formulated without recourse to explicitly causal notions. Newcomb
problems stand out as putative counterexamples to this ‘evidential’ decision theory. Jeffrey initially sought to defuse Newcomb
problems via recourse to the doctrine of ratificationism, but later came to see this as problematic. We will see that Jeffrey’s
worries about ratificationism were not compelling, but that valid ratificationist arguments implicitly presuppose causal decision
theory. In later work, Jeffrey argued that Newcomb problems are not decisions at all because agents who face them possess
so much evidence about correlations between their actions and states of the world that they are unable to regard their deliberate
choices as causes of outcomes, and so cannot see themselves as making free choices. Jeffrey’s reasoning goes wrong because
it fails to recognize that an agent’s beliefs about her immediately available acts are so closely tied to the immediate causes
of these actions that she can create evidence that outweighs any antecedent correlations between acts and states. Once we
recognize that deliberating agents are free to believe what they want about their own actions, it will be clear that Newcomb
problems are indeed counterexamples to evidential decision theory. 相似文献

This essay examines the initial stages of the relationship between Jewish nationalism and modern biblical criticism. Its point
of departure is Ahad Ha’am, the founder of cultural Zionism, who kept his distance from biblical criticism, and proceeds with
Joseph Klausner, Ahad Ha’am’s successor as the editor of Ha-shiloah, who moved in the opposite direction by incorporating biblical criticism into his own writing and teaching. After examining
the opposition to Klausner, the essay turns to the work of Ben-Zion Mossinson, who introduced the results of biblical criticism
into the teaching of the Bible in the modern schools of the Yishuv. This initiative generated controversy and broad opposition,
especially in the European Hebrew press. Shortly before World War I, and in this controversy’s immediate aftermath, Joseph
Klausner, then in Palestine, published a small pamphlet in Hebrew making the case for biblical criticism. At about the same
time, in Russia, Max Soloveitchik made a similar argument in a book of his own. Neither of these two works had resounding
significance, but each testifies to the growing self-confidence of the exponents of cultural Zionist in promoting modern biblical
criticism in the Jewish school.

An adapted alternating treatments design was used to evaluate and compare the effects of two procedures designed to enhance
math fact accuracy and fluency in an elementary student with low cognitive functioning. Results showed that although the cover,
copy, compare (CCC) and the taped problems (TP) procedures both increased the student's math fact accuracy and fluency, TP
was more effective as it took less time to implement. Discussion focuses on the need to develop strategies and procedures
that allow students to acquire basic computation skills in a manner that will facilitate, as opposed to hinder, subsequent

This article tells, or advocates, a bizarre story about male revenge. By drawing from literature in the psychology of religion
that deals with the Book of Job and by assuming the standpoint of “cultural hermeneutics” in biblical studies, the author
playfully takes up an issue identified by Donald Capps: the issue of repressed rage in male melancholia. The author takes
his cue from a recent doctoral dissertation from Princeton Theological Seminary. Jacobus Hamman (2000) applies a Winnicottian
analysis to the Book of Job and argues that the Book of Job can be a useful pastoral resource today in a number of ways, including
his proposal for believers to direct their aggression toward God. Implicit in Hamman’s Winnicottian analysis, but never explicitly
stated, is the fact that God is Mother. The plot here is how the Book of Job might lead contemporary American men to hate
Mother God and the maternal Jesus, thereby aiding them in externalizing their repressed and self-directed rage. Mel Gibson
stars, if only briefly, in this childish story that presses the limits of Christian theology. 相似文献

Before alcohol was generally known to cause birth defects, NIAAA in 1974 began funding a population-based Seattle study on
alcohol use and pregnancy outcome. Women receiving prenatal care by mid-pregnancy were recruited (N = 1,529) and interviewed at home. Approximately 500 offspring exposed to a range of alcohol levels were examined on 11 occasions
between day 1 and 25 years. Neuropsychological and neurobehavioral performance measures are correlated with prenatal alcohol
dose, without substantial confounding by socio-demographic or rearing conditions, smoking, nutrition, or other drugs. Deficits
in attention, arithmetic skill, spatial-visual memory, and IQ, as well as increased alcohol problems and psychiatric disorders
are among offspring outcomes correlated at several ages with maternal drinking during and before pregnancy recognition. Findings
are not confined to women who believed they had alcohol problems. Not all exposed offspring appear affected. 相似文献
