Traditional accounts of belief change have been criticized for placing undue emphasis on the new belief provided as input. A recent proposal to address such issues is a framework for non-prioritized belief change based on default theories (Ghose and Goebel, 1998). A novel feature of this approach is the introduction of disbeliefs alongside beliefs which allows for a view of belief contraction as independently useful, instead of just being seen as an intermediate step in the process of belief revision. This approach is, however, restrictive in assuming a linear ordering of reliability on the received inputs. In this paper, we replace the linear ordering with a preference ranking on inputs from which a total preorder on inputs can be induced. This extension brings along with it the problem of dealing with inputs of equal rank. We provide a semantic solution to this problem which contains, as a special case, AGM belief change on closed theories.  相似文献

Understanding the electrical and mechanical behaviour of nanoporous materials is critical for their use in energy applications. A palladium-rich nanoporous film, 500 nm thick with pore size ranging from 10 to 50 nm, was obtained by electrochemical dealloying of a Ni–Pd–P–B metallic glass. Nanomechanical and electrical properties were measured simultaneously, as a function of depth, for the nanoporous structure as well as the unaltered metallic glass substrate. The elastic modulus for the nanoporous structure was found to be 22 GPa compared to 131 GPa for the metallic glass substrate. The ratio of moduli scales with the square of the relative density in agreement with linear elasticity models for cellular materials. The electrical resistivity of the nanoporous layer was found to be 2.2 times higher compared to the metallic glass substrate, which was attributed to the tortuosity of current path in cellular structures.  相似文献

What are the origins of object permanence? Despite widespread interest in this question, methodological barriers have prevented detailed analysis of how experience shapes the development of object permanence in newborn organisms. Here, we introduce an automated controlled‐rearing method for studying the emergence of object permanence in strictly controlled virtual environments. We used newborn chicks as an animal model and recorded their behavior continuously (24/7) from the onset of vision. Across four experiments, we found that object permanence can develop rapidly, within the first few days of life. This ability developed even when chicks were reared in impoverished visual environments containing no object occlusion events. Object permanence failed to develop, however, when chicks were reared in environments containing temporally non‐smooth objects (objects moving on discontinuous spatiotemporal paths). These results suggest that experience with temporally smooth objects facilitates the development of object permanence, confirming a key prediction of temporal learning models in computational neuroscience.  相似文献
