In this study we examined conceptual priming using environmental sounds and visually displayed words. Priming for sounds and words was observed in response latency as well as in event-related potentials. Reactions were faster when a related word followed an environmental sound and vice versa. Moreover both stimulus types produced an N400-effect for unrelated compared to related trials. The N400-effect had an earlier onset for environmental sounds than for words. The results support the theoretical notion that conceptual processing may be similar for verbal and non-verbal stimuli. 相似文献

There is a well known debate between those who defend a traditional (or classical) concept of God and those who defend a process (or neoclassical) concept of God. Not as well known are the implications of these two rival concepts of God in the effort to understand religious experience. With the aid of the great pragmatist philosopher John Smith, I defend the process (or neoclassical) concept of God in its ability to better illuminate and render as intelligible as possible mystical experience. 相似文献

Some people might believe that individuals who are more satisfied with their body are also happier. However, people tend to overrate the influence of some factors (e.g. money or health) on their happiness; a phenomenon termed the focusing illusion. Our aim was to examine the focusing illusion in relation to body satisfaction. We experimentally manipulated body satisfaction and life satisfaction focus by varying the order of relevant measurement scales. Volunteers (N = 97) completed two questionnaires placed in separate envelopes to control the order of scales administration. Participants either completed the Body Satisfaction Scale followed by the Satisfaction with Life Scale or vice versa. In line with the focusing illusion the association between body satisfaction and life satisfaction was significantly stronger when participants were asked about their body satisfaction first. Body satisfaction as a focusing illusion may need to be considered by scientist as well as lay people who try to look better and be happier. 相似文献

In this article I concentrate on three issues. First, Graham Oppy’s treatment of the relationship between the concept of infinity
and Zeno’s paradoxes lay bare several porblems that must be dealt with if the concept of infinity is to do any intellectual
work in philosophy of religion. Here I will expand on some insightful remarks by Oppy in an effort ot adequately respond to
these problems. Second, I will do the same regarding Oppy’s treatment of Kant’s first antinomy in the first critique, which
deals in part with the question of whether the world had a beginning in time or if time extends infinitely into the past.
And third, my examination of these two issues will inform what I have to say regarding a key topic in philosophy of religion:
the question regarding the proper relationship between the infinite and the finite in the concept of God. 相似文献
