Spiritual Formation for Ordained Ministry: An Ecumenical Approach

Abstract. Seminaries have a responsibility to engage students in reflecting upon the spiritual life, as well as providing opportunities to deepen their own spiritual journeys. It also is important that they consider the intentional ways that their understandings and experiences of the spiritual life influence their leadership in the Church. Spiritual formation of seminarians provides particular challenges to faculty of liberal, ecumenical seminaries. This article describes a course designed to address these issues and argues that spiritual formation can be effectively integrated into the curricula of liberal, ecumenical seminaries.     

儒学形而上系统的最初建构--《五行》所展示的儒学形而上体系

郭简<五行>篇具有重要的研究价值,本文主要对其对儒学形而上体系之建构作出理解和诠释,着重通过对<五行>篇的内在结构的分析,阐明<五行>所建立的儒学形而上体系的内部结构,说明和论证此体系正是儒学的"一以贯之"的内在结构和形而上体系,<五行>的思想是思孟之间一个不可或缺的重要的过渡环节,它继承孔子以来儒学的内在精神,使儒学的形而上体系得以明晰,并为孟子进一步继承和发展,从而推动了儒学的进一步发展.通过<五行>"形于内"和"不形于内"的分析,对天人合一也作出新的理解.     

Ecumenical Attitudes as Criteria for Ecumenical Relations

Abstract

Quality of relationship is required to manifest the unity of the Church, together with common confession of faith and mutually recognized order. This is one of the lessons learnt from the history of Faith and Order, a think-tank now more than seventy-five years old on the premises for the unity of the Church. The author of this article contends that criteria for such quality can be seen in attitudes, defining the relationship required for communion in and between institutional churches of different traditions. The BEM document of 1982 and the processes required in that document offer excellent examples of ecumenical attitudes. This document has also been pivotal for the establishment of bilateral agreements, like the Porvoo agreement between Anglican and Lutheran Churches. The ecumenical attitude of mutual accountability, described as openness, reliability and ability to give and take criticism, is important in the development of an ecumenical ecclesiology. The article uses Ivar Asheim's ethics of attitude and provides examples of how these attitudes influence ecumenical processes, such as BEM, Porvoo and Leuenberg.     

A Mere Idea

In response to Khin Zaw's pragmatic model of reason, I argue for a normative,Kantian account in which reason actively impels thought andunderstanding towards transcendental ideals. Reason is neither constructedout of what is ready to hand, nor imposes moral laws from a transhistorical content. Reason's role is to provide the formof our ideas of the good in accordance with which we may shape thecontent in any particular culture. I argue that the well-rehearseddebate between nature and culture cannot be advanced without recourseto metaphysics. Since metaphysics in transcendental, not transcendent,what emerges from metaphysics must be revealed, interrogated andcriticised, never assumed.
