The authors propose a more comprehensive definition of couples therapy since parenting and individual issues can impact so forcefully on spousal relationships. Couples therapy, is redefined as a therapy with both spouses concerning their individual, parenting, and marital functioning which is conducted in conjoint marital/family sessions and individual meetings with each spouse. A case example illustrates this approach which is called Comprehensive Family Therapy. 相似文献

SUMMARY Sex therapy with gay male couples is difficult for many family and relationship therapists. Family therapists lack knowledge of the nature of sex therapy, gay male culture and sexuality, the dynamics of gay male couples, and the sexual issues gay male couples are likely to bring to sex therapy. Countertransference also makes sex therapy with gay male couples difficult for some family and relationship therapists. This paper addresses those issues and then explains a systems approach to sex therapy with gay male couples. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIndividuals initially learn about intimate relationships from observing others, such as their parents or caregivers’ relationship, which may positively or negatively affect their own romantic relationship. This article focuses on the application of Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) concepts to establish resilience among couples with at least one partner from a single-parent household. Some individuals from single-parent households may not have witnessed romantic relationships to confidently engage in adult romantic relationships. Additionally, clinicians may not consider family background as a source of contention for a couple’s presenting concerns. Thus, this article provides creative interventions and implications to assist counselors in working with couples. 相似文献

A conceptual framework for treating couples who come into therapy desirous of changing the behavior of their partner. A case history is cited wherein sensitivity towards equality of input, power and responsibility for the couples' plight is continuously emphasized for each member of the pair. The histories of both partners are described in order to stress the no fault nature of the couples' conditions. 相似文献

SUMMARY Core energetics is a method of psychotherapy that seeks the integration of all aspects of humanity: the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual. Based on a deep understanding of the ways in which energy and consciousness work together, the therapy, developed by John C. Pierrakos, MD, invites couples to experience their inner truth and to identify their universal life goals and core feelings. Core energetics emphasizes wholeness and unification without loss of individuation for the couple. This article describes core energetics as it is used in couples work; the theory, therapeutic stance, methods of diagnosis, and energetic techniques are discussed, as well as the focus on sexuality and Spirituality. 相似文献

SUMMARY Empowerment is defined as a process occurring in a relational context in which all participants in the relationship interact in a manner which establishes connection and strengthens each person's sense of self worth and personal power. The purpose of the article is to apply specific themes of empowerment for couples therapy. Six major themes are presented: (1) taking and being in charge of one's self; (2) acknowledging and valuing difference and diversity; (3) power in relationship; (4) choices and options; (5) necessity of skills in relating to the wider societal context; and (6) taking action. Techniques for working with couples from an empowerment perspective are also offered. 相似文献

In the author's view, the intensity of couples/family treatment arises from a suppressed acknowledgment of reciprocity, of interconnectedness among family members, beyond the often familiar dynamics of blaming and deprivation. Eliciting a recognition of profound interdependence raises anxiety, and stands in opposition to culturally prescribed concepts of autonomy and independence. To this end, a dramaturgical model of couples/family is proposed and discussed, involving the therapist's participation as director, witness or audience, and protagonist. 相似文献

This paper offers a framework for considering cultural influences in couples therapy. Emphasis is placed on the therapist's responsibility to engage in an ongoing self-assessment of personal biases, areas of inexperience, and privilege. With a focus on couples of ethnic minority cultures, suggestions are offered for establishing rapport, understanding values, and appreciating strengths. 相似文献

When reviewing past and current research on the role of emotion in couples therapy, there appeared to be a lack of articulation concerning how emotional expressions and relational dynamics are affected by emotional trauma that has not been accessed. The authors demonstrate how emotionally and experientially oriented therapy with couples can be enhanced by accessing stored trauma through the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This approach is called Eye Movement Relationship Enhancement (EMRE) therapy and includes key clinical areas such as accessing and tolerating previously disowned emotion, reprocessing emotional experiences, and amplifying couple intimacy. These key areas are discussed and illustrated with case examples. 相似文献

SUMMARY In ages past, spiritual seekers left their close relationships for the seclusion of a monastery or a solitary journey, facing their dragons essentially alone. Today, however, many of us face the dragons within us as we undertake the tasks of differentiation and individuation. Thus, our relationships, if we allow them, can become the loci of our deepest self-exploration, leading to deepening intimacy with our partners. 相似文献

SUMMARY The author predicted that couples would begin therapy with a high potential for separation or divorce and with one partner significantly more dissatisfied than the other. Using the Index of Marital Satisfaction (Hudson, 1982), 24 couples were studied using a practitioner-researcher model. Although the first hypothesis was not confirmed at the level of prediction, partners were found to be at a level of dissatisfaction close to the predicted levels. A highly significant statistical difference (p = .0001) was observed between the satisfaction levels of the partners in the couples. Based upon the research findings, some clinical wisdom was revised and other beliefs were confirmed. 相似文献

SUMMARY Integrity Therapy (Lander, 1986; Lander & Nahon, 1992a, 1995a; Mowrer, 1961b, 1964a) views the personhood of the therapist as the very essence of therapy. By meeting the deepest part of the therapist with the deepest self of individuals in therapy, a healing process unfolds which opens up the healing potential of both the individuals and the couple. This article offers couple therapists and other mental health professionals an Integrity Therapy perspective of the personhood of the therapist and its therapeutic potential for helping couples in distress to reclaim their personhood. Two aspects of the Integrity Therapy approach which play a critical role in enhancing therapists' use of their personhood in the therapeutic process are explored: (a) the use of therapist self-disclosure, and (b) therapists' awareness and therapeutic use of counter-transference issues. 相似文献
