We examined the occurrence of negative transfer in the learning of a novel motor task with regard to the schema theory (Schmidt, 1975) premise that practicing similar movements should have a facilitatory effect on learning. Given that negative transfer is often difficult to produce, an attempt was made to use a design similar to that of Lewis, McAllister, and Adarns (1951), in which the interpolated task was a complete reversal of the original task. Forty-eight university students were tested on a discrete pursuit-tracking task. They completed trials on both the original task and an interpolated reversed task before relearning the original task. The decrement between the first re- learning trial and the last original learning trial was analyzed for a negative transfer effect. Schmidt's (1982) hypothesis that negative transfer is due to temporary cognitive or decision confusion, not the result of a motor control problem, was supported. All evident performance decrements were observed only in the first relearning trial and were not present on subsequent trials. The data support a schema theory view of transfer in motor learning.  相似文献

In Phylogenetic Systematics (1966), Willi Hennig conflates the Linnaean hierarchy with what Hennig refers to as the divisional hierarchy. In doing so, he lays the foundations of that school of biological taxonomy known as cladism on a philosophically ambiguous basis. This paper compares and contrasts the two hierarchies and demonstrates that Hennig conflates them. It shows that Hennig's followers also conflate them. Finally, it illuminates five persistent problems in cladism by suggesting that they arise from Hennig's original confusion.  相似文献

Challenged by clinical findings and necessity, psychoanalysts proceed on a lifelong professional journey of exploring, deleting, adding, and integrating from various theoretical and technical paradigms. This article briefly depicts one analyst's journey from ego psychology in the early 1970s to the year 2000. The emphasis on retaining early valuable tenets and adding new theoretical and technical concepts. As an example, conflicts involving problems of the self and ego ideal, brought to the fore through work with patients having significant self-esteem, shame, and envy difficulties, are singled out. These conflicts are found in cases such as those with anorexia, body image disturbance, gender identity and negative gender message problems, and cases having early denigrating environments. Shame dynamics are addressed. The presenting pictures for problems involving shame are usually new compromise formations prompted by signal shame. A case is reported to depict the use of modern conflict theory in analyzing such problems.  相似文献

Concessive knowledge attributions (CKAs) are knowledge attributions of the form ‘S knows p, but it’s possible that q’, where q obviously entails not-p (Rysiew, Nous (Detroit, Mich.) 35:477–514, 2001). The significance of CKAs has been widely discussed recently. It’s agreed by all that CKAs are infelicitous, at least typically. But the agreement ends there. Different writers have invoked them in their defenses of all sorts of philosophical theses; to name just a few: contextualism, invariantism, fallibilism, infallibilism, and that the knowledge rules for assertion and practical reasoning are false. In fact, there is a lot of confusion about CKAs and their significance. I try to clear some of this confusion up, as well as show what their significance is with respect to the debate between fallibilists and infallibilists about knowledge in particular.  相似文献
