There is a paucity of peer-reviewed, nonpatient Rorschach studies in psychological journals, particularly for children. This study examined 100 preteenage children, using the Comprehensive System to code their Rorschach protocols. The participants were also evaluated with the Conners Parent Rating Scale-93 (Conners, 1989) and 5 exclusionary behavior criteria. The 100 participants demonstrated better than average behaviors. The results presented include all the ratios and indexes found in the nonpatient statistics for the Comprehensive System. We discuss interrater reliability issues and offer recommendations for further cross-validating research.  相似文献

Teacher candidates (TCs) must navigate personal, experiential, and theoretical discourses of learning to teach to establish a teaching identity. This article describes a critical case example of digital storytelling to imagine a future classroom. The qualitative research design situates the TCs’ digital stories as a performance and analyzes the art form to consider how they might use these texts to imagine and make visible this negotiation. The critical case shows how the TCs used the digital story to make sense of personal experiences, their image of an ideal teacher, methods coursework, and the personal struggle inherent across these sometimes disparate voices of learning to teach. Findings indicate that digital storytelling expands TCs’ reflective practice in the supportive environment of a teacher education program.  相似文献

The demand for therapy groups for child sexual assault victims has risen as detection of abuse has increased, but little has been published about conducting and evaluating such groups. The authors present a comprehensive review of the literature and describe their sixteen-week therapy group with seven eleven- and twelve-year-old girls. Treatment themes, activities, group process issues, and psychometric findings on the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale and the Child Behavior Checklist are discussed. A study of preadolescent males and females determined that males and females appear to perceive their quality of life in the past year, the present, and the future year similarly. However, differences between males and females emerged in the number of psychosocial variables that were associated with the three above time periods. Results suggest that females' perception of the past, present and future are significantly associated with a host of psychosocial variables and associated with the self, while males' perception of time appears less determined by psychosocial and perception-of-self variables. This may suggest that one's sex role influences how one perceives time.  相似文献

Physiological and self-report data were collected on anxious subjects who participated in a study comparing progressive relaxation, meditation and a waiting-list control. The data provide some support for the Schwartz, Davidson and Goleman (1978) hypothesis of specific effects for different relaxation procedures, superimposed upon a generalized relaxation response. The similarities between techniques, however, were greater than the differences, both on physiological and self-report measures. Both techniques generated positive expectancies and produced decreases in a variety of self-reported symptoms and on EMG: but no skin conductance or frontal EEG effects were observed. Progressive relaxation produced bigger decreases in forearm EMG responsiveness to stressful stimulation and a generally more powerful therapeutic effect than meditation. Meditation produced greater cardiac orienting responses to stressful stimuli, greater absorption in the task and better motivation to practice than progressive relaxation; but it also produced more reports of increased transient anxiety. We found no significant differences between conditions in the therapeutic expectancies they generated. The clinical implications of these findings are discussed.  相似文献

Some assumptions of interpersonal theory were tested among a population of preadolescent children. Children were videotaped while interacting with a same-sex peer, and their verbal and nonverbal communications were judged by other peers who were not participants in the study. Children rated as socially unattractive by their peers had communication styles characterized by nonverbal visual hostility. These results support the assumption that negative nonverbal communications are associated with relationship difficulties.  相似文献

This narrative study examined the process of personal storytelling between college-age friends who were similarly introverted or extraverted. Participants were 19 introverted and 20 extraverted same-sex pairs (49% female) who had been friends for an average of 18 months. Stories emerged spontaneously during 10-min catch-up conversations. Extraverted friends more often told stories that changed the topic, and more often co-constructed story plots. Introverted friends more often told stories that were embedded in a developing theme, and constructed story plots solo. With regard to content, extraverted friends told stories about romance more so than introverted friends, whose stories more often concerned family/hometown, and older events. The findings suggest that the traits of extraversion and introversion channel the identity-making process.  相似文献

Samples of impoverished Zulu schoolchildren drawn from three age groups were tested repeatedly on the Figural Intersection Test (FIT), a measure of M-power in Pascual-Leone's theory of constructive operators. Results showed an initial underperformance when compared with Canadian and urban Zulu children. This was attributed to the effects of impoverishment. However, impoverished children did acquire the age-related levels of performance after repeated trials, a result consistent with the concept of M-power in the theory of constructive operators.  相似文献

The name Lightner Witmer is rarely invoked in the historian's litany of psychological saints. Neither a grand systematizer nor an ardent experimentalist, the “world's first clinical psychologist” is even dismissed by contemporary clinicians because of his purported failure to achieve for psychologists professional hegemony over the “problem child.” Yet disciplinary ventures which in Joseph Ben-David's phrase fail to “take off” represent extremely illuminating indicators of a discipline's shifting ideas, roles, and aspirations. Explicitly urging that historians pay more attention to subgroups of larger disciplines, this paper constitutes an attempt to assess the impact of changing social roles upon psychologists' intellectual stances through an examination of Witmer's novel activities at the University of Pennsylvania.  相似文献

Language-processing facility in good and poor readers was examined using two speech-shadowing experiments. A total of 54 children from the second, fifth, and eighth grades were tested (9 good and 9 poor readers at each grade level). The first experiment manipulated rate of presentation to study speed of processing auditory-linguistic information. Good readers were superior to poor readers in their ability to maintain shadowing accuracy at increased rates of presentation, although the performance patterns of the two groups varied according to grade level. In the second experiment, good and poor readers shadowed sentences exhibiting different degrees of grammatical acceptability. Unstructured word strings, without syntactic coherence, penalized good readers more than poor readers, relative to their performance on syntactically appropriate constructions. Poor readers did not differ from good readers in theirThis work was supported by funds from the National Science Foundation under Grant No. BNS-8405085. A case of anterior communicating artery aneurysm with damage to inferior medial frontal areas (Brodmann areas 25, 32, 24-inferior) is presented. Four prominent deficits are discussed: (1) anterograde amnesia, (2) inert perseverative card sorting, (3) motor stereotypies, and (4) reduplicative paramnesia. These four deficits are discussed as negative or positive symptoms, related either to damage in inferior medial frontal (Brodmann areas 25, 32, 24-inferior) regions or release phenomena of superior medial frontal (Brodmann areas 6-medial and 24-superior) regions. It is concluded that the inferior and superior medial frontal regions act as opponent processors, with the inferior (B25, 32) area functioning to switch current mental set while the superior (B24-superior, 6-medial) region functions to maintain current mental set. Testable hypotheses about the opponent processor mechanism are suggested, as applied to neuropsychiatric disorders.  相似文献
