Abstract

The work of C. G. Jung has been largely neglected in recent discussions of time-limited psychotherapy. Notwithstanding this state of affairs, this paper argues that much is to be gained from familiarity with Jung's view on treatment. A brief overview of Jung's general system of psychology is presented, and contrasts are drawn to the work of Freud. Several distinctive characteristics of Jung's view of the clinical process are then identified, and a discussion of the course of treatment is provided with a brief reference to a case of Jung's and to the author's experience working with gay men.  相似文献

This article discusses the application in a CAMHS setting of a distinctive intervention for adolescent mental health difficulties, time-limited adolescent psychodynamic psychotherapy (TAPP). TAPP has been developed specifically for working with adolescents and the characteristic developmental and psychosocial complexities they present to mental health services. It is widely recognised that supporting the developmental process in adolescence is central to therapeutic interventions and the therapeutic aim of TAPP is to enable recovery of the capacity to meet developmental challenges. The key factors of TAPP are described, including the formulation and working with a developmental focus, the therapeutic stance, working with transference and counter-transference, working with time limits, and the emphasis is placed on engagement of adolescents in therapy in TAPP. The experiences of introducing and developing TAPP in the CAMHS service are discussed with two brief and one extended case examples and this leads to a discussion of the kinds of outcomes achieved. It is concluded that TAPP is a key and relevant intervention for adolescents in complex and vulnerable situations; further work will be undertaken to continue its application in these settings and to formally assess outcomes.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper introduces a new synthesis of approaches to time-limited psychodynamic counselling, giving an account of some of its antecedents and of some of the values which underlie therapeutic effectiveness.

It offers a discussion of the impetus which may be obtained by facilitating the client in working towards a positive outcome which is clearly identifiable. Two time-limited counsellings are then described, in which the underlying conflicts, surrounding loss in the first and impaired trust in the second, are seen to emerge. Finally, some ethical issues are raised and the effects of the planned ending on the client's unconscious process are described.

Mental health, in the humanistic sense, is characterized by the ability to love and to create, by the emergence from the incestuous ties to family and to nature, by a sense of identity based on one's experience of self as the subject and agent of one's powers, by the grasp of reality inside and outside of ourselves, that is by the development of objectivity and reason.  相似文献

Counselling in primary care can be considered a fast-evolving profession that is distinct from counselling in the private sector. There are specific differences in the way the counsellors work, vis-a-vis predominantly using time-limited approaches and counsellors tending to adapt their styles to working in more focused ways. The differences over confidentiality ethics and working hours encountered in primary care are discussed in the light of current guidelines. Additional roles within the primary care setting, referrals from the GP and attrition are also discussed and the distinctiveness of primary care counselling against working in more traditional settings is highlighted.  相似文献

Abstract

Emotional abuse in childhood, in contrast to physical or sexual abuse, is a form of maltreatment which has been slow to receive widespread discussion. Categorizing emotional abuse highlights the ongoing realities of emotionally abused individuals. The five categories introduced here help to classify developmental problems, create treatment plans, and identify preventive opportunities. After a discussion of these categories, representative case histories from therapy groups are presented. These case histories are then traced through major phases of group therapy conducted within a structured setting and occurring on a time-limited basis.  相似文献

The paper responds to Neil Tennant's recent discussion of Fitch's so-called paradox of knowability in the context of intuitionistic logic. Tennant's criticisms of the author's earlier work on this topic are shown to rest on a principle about the assertibility of disjunctions with the absurd consequence that everything we could make true already is true. Tennant restricts the anti-realist principle that truth implies knowability in order to escape Fitch's argument, but a more complex variant of the argument is shown to elicit from his restricted principle exactly the consequences which it was intended to avoid.  相似文献

Some reflections are presented on the author's experience as a management counsellor and how he works with people in organisations. The basic assumption is that the critical unit is the individual and that working with organisations means working with people firstly as individuals alone and secondly as individuals in groups of one sort or another. Each individual experiences an organisation differently and these individual perceptions drive behaviours in organisations. The idea that the best modes of working are through psychologically close team with common perceptions and values is questioned. The author's preference is to counsel people individually and then help them to relate collectively at levels which are mutually tolerable. The optimum performance of individuals within an organisation is when they have learned to accommodate their needs in a mutually agreeable organisational culture.  相似文献

The process by which Gustave Flaubert created the character of Emma Bovary is examined, as are various of the author's sources for the heroine and their transformation in the course of composing the novel. Certain aspects of the authors psychic makeup, including his bisexuality, are discussed in this light, as are Flaubert's early traumatic losses and their influence on his way of working. Finally, it is suggested that writing had multiple functions for the author and that the creation of Emma Bovary served as a partial solution to unmet needs.  相似文献

The present article proposes a method, practiced by the author, to adapt time-limited dynamic psychotherapy (TLDP), a short-term individual psychodynamic therapy, for use with inpatient psychotherapy groups. Characteristics of TLDP which suggest the usefulness of such an adaptation, including short-term duration, specific treatment focus, rapid conceptualizations and broad selection of patients, and emphasis on the here-and-now in therapy, are discussed. The general approach to treatment, a supportive stance that involves an identification of maladaptive interpersonal issues, and then working on these issues without directly confronting the patients, is described. Specific therapeutic techniques for common inpatient group situations are also discussed.  相似文献

Research suggests that high-anxious female students underperform in time-limited examinations compared to their low-anxious counterparts. Consequently, the purpose of this investigation was to determine whether differential performance on time-limited and time-unlimited statistics examinations, would be associated with test anxiety. Twenty-one female graduate students, enrolled in a statistics course, were assigned randomly to either a time-unlimited or time-limited examination condition. An interaction was found between test anxiety and examination condition, with high anxiety tending to be associated more strongly with underachievement in the time-limited than the time-unlimited condition. Implications for increasing the statistics performance of female students are discussed.  相似文献

The present set of studies investigates the role of competitive conflict regulation and informational dependence in peer learning. Previous studies have shown that peer work on identical information produces not only confrontation of viewpoints but also competitive conflict regulation, the latter of which is detrimental for learning. Conversely, working on complementary information produces positive interactions but also informational dependence, and good quality information transmission is needed to foster learning. The present research shows that discussion aids (note‐taking and access to the study materials during discussion), a variable related to the quality of informational input, moderated the relationship between information interdependence and learning. This moderation was mediated by competitive conflict regulation: Students who worked on identical information with discussion aids reported more competitive conflict regulation than those without discussion aids, which in turn reduced learning, a pattern that did not appear for students working on complementary information. Moreover, when students worked on complementary information, the good quality of information transmission elicited by discussion aids led to high levels of learning for all students. The application of methods developed for individual work in Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT) as applied to a time-limited group are described. Written and diagrammatic reformulation of patients problems, prepared in pre-group individual sessions, were shared in the group and served to heighten the group process. For a number of reasons, we decided to bring three long-term, open-ended psychodynamic therapy groups to termination. We examine the process that began with the announcement of the change to a time-limited format, and concluded with the termination of the group. The transition had a powerful impact on the members and the group-as-a-whole. The therapists used supervision to deal with the intensity of the group process and the countertransference demands posed by the transition. Groups facing a similar change due to economic pressures may benefit from these observations.  相似文献

Abstract

The discussion on work flexibility in organizations seems to be promising in terms of self-determination and autonomy of the concerned people. Computer systems offer features to articulate preferences of tasks and times. Therefore the work planning process could be more democratic, since the workers could participate in the decision-making procedure actively. The article investigates how a decision situation can be modelled in order to design a technical support system. In addition it will be analysed as to which social and group dynamic aspects play crucial roles–from a system designer's view. There has been a recent increase in interest in defining and describing the competencies for professional practice in psychology. Perhaps the most important mechanism for enabling the acquisition of competencies is the process of supervision. This article takes the position, based on a review of relevant research in supervision and the author's experiences, that developmental theories of supervision have stimulated considerable research and provide a direction for future work in research and practice. It is argued that the most detailed of these theories, the Integrated Developmental Model, provides a useful framework for understanding how supervisees change over time and how various supervision environments (broadly) and supervision interventions (specifically) can enhance or detract from the development of professional competencies.  相似文献

Ajter a brief discussion of work on experimenter-bias, it is suggested that the possibility of less well documented biases should be considered. A number of such biases are suggested. They are presented in terms of their source, namely the political ideologies, cultural backgrounds, biographical characteristics and personal characteristics of scientists. In considering implications of biases, three reactions are discussed: ignoring, controlling and understanding them. In particular, it is proposed that understanding the operation of bias might be furthered by working towards a taxonomy of biases, organized in terms of the sources of biases and the points in the research process at which they intrude.  相似文献
