NORMUL is a FORTRAN program that provides a test of whether data conform to a multivariate normal distribution. The method involves correlating Mahalanobis distances for observed data with expected chi-square percentile values. This obtained correlation is then tested for significance by empirically evaluating the probability of its belonging to a distribution generated from multivariate normal data.  相似文献

Methods are given for deciding whether to use some or no predictor variables in a regression analysis. Previously obtained results on the more general problem, whether to usek ork — r predictor variables are reviewed with emphasis on applications.  相似文献

A simulated annealing methodology for clusterwise linear regression   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In many regression applications, users are often faced with difficulties due to nonlinear relationships, heterogeneous subjects, or time series which are best represented by splines. In such applications, two or more regression functions are often necessary to best summarize the underlying structure of the data. Unfortunately, in most cases, it is not known a priori which subset of observations should be approximated with which specific regression function. This paper presents a methodology which simultaneously clusters observations into a preset number of groups and estimates the corresponding regression functions' coefficients, all to optimize a common objective function. We describe the problem and discuss related procedures. A new simulated annealing-based methodology is described as well as program options to accommodate overlapping or nonoverlapping clustering, replications per subject, univariate or multivariate dependent variables, and constraints imposed on cluster membership. Extensive Monte Carlo analyses are reported which investigate the overall performance of the methodology. A consumer psychology application is provided concerning a conjoint analysis investigation of consumer satisfaction determinants. Finally, other applications and extensions of the methodology are discussed.  相似文献

Moderated multiple regression (MMR) arguably is the most popular statistical technique for investigating regression slope differences (interactions) across groups (e.g., aptitude-treatment interactions in training and differential test score-job performance prediction in selection testing). However, heterogeneous error variances can greatly bias the typical MMR analysis, and the conditions that cause heterogeneity are not uncommon. Statistical corrections that have been developed require special calculations and are not conducive to follow-up analyses that describe an interaction effect in depth. A weighted least squares (WLS) approach is recommended for 2-group studies. For 2-group studies, WLS is statistically accurate, is readily executed through popular software packages (e.g., SAS Institute, 1999; SPSS, 1999), and allows follow-up tests.  相似文献

This paper contains a globally optimal solution for a class of functions composed of a linear regression function and a penalty function for the sum of squared regression weights. Global optimality is obtained from inequalities rather than from partial derivatives of a Lagrangian function. Applications arise in multidimensional scaling of symmetric or rectangular matrices of squared distances, in Procrustes analysis, and in ridge regression analysis. The similarity of existing solutions for these applications is explained by considering them as special cases of the general class of functions addressed. The author is obliged to Henk Kiers and Willem Heiser for helpful comments.  相似文献

We provide an SPSS program that implements currently recommended techniques and recent developments for selecting variables in multiple linear regression analysis via the relative importance of predictors. The approach consists of: (1) optimally splitting the data for cross-validation, (2) selecting the final set of predictors to be retained in the equation regression, and (3) assessing the behavior of the chosen model using standard indices and procedures. The SPSS syntax, a short manual, and data files related to this article are available as supplemental materials from brm.psychonomic-journals.org/content/supplemental.  相似文献
