Customized pricing is an increasing phenomenon in the marketplace, but little is known about factors influencing consumer responses to customized pricing. The present paper seeks to gain an understanding of how, why, and when this emerging pricing mechanism may offer benefits. Specifically, this research focuses on how consumers respond to customized pricing tactics and, more specifically, on how interpersonal attachment orientations impact consumers' responses to prices offered in the presence of a customized pricing program. The results of 3 studies suggest that customized pricing programs likely create an expectation for a discounted price among securely attached individuals, such that these consumers are dissatisfied paying the shelf price in the presence of a customized pricing program. Overall, the results provide evidence that, although customized pricing programs are often used to enhance consumer evaluations, they may not always be effective. This paper advances prior research by integrating important considerations for both pricing and customization strategies based on individual and situational differences in attachment orientations.  相似文献

The language SP-12 for a PDP-12 computer is described. SP-12 is an example of how a special-purpose language can be constructed from a set of machine-language subroutines that are called by a simple interpreter. Symbolic source programs make it easy to learn the language. Preliminary translation of the source program into binary code, using an assembler, greatly increases the speed of the interpreter.  相似文献

Tscope is a C/C11 programming library designed for programming experiments that run on Windows 2000/XP. It is intended for a public of experimental psychologists with moderate programming skills, who are accustomed to writing their own experimental programs for DOS but have not made the step to Windows-based programming yet. It provides molecular functions for graphics, sound, timing, randomization, and response registration. Together with ANSI-C standard library functions and the powerful C syntax, this set of functions gives the experimenter the opportunity to program virtually any experiment one can come up with. Tscope is completely based on free software, is distributed under the GNU General Public License, and is available at expsy.ugent.be/tscope. An integrated development environment for compiling and running Tscope programs is also freely available.  相似文献

This paper describes a flexible hardware/software system developed for use with a PDP-8I computer for conducting research in behavioral neurophysiology. A real time monitor was designed to facilitate development, debugging, and modification of programs to run experiments. It relieves the programmer of the burden of dealing with hardware dependent functions such as interrupt handling and input/output. In addition, it provides the user with a large library of callable routines to perform functions commonly needed for conducting experiments. The monitor is modular in design and could be expanded or modified for use with many configurations of the PDP-8 family of computers.  相似文献

This paper provides an introduction to the UCSD PASCAL system: a nearly machine-independent software system for micro- and minicomputers. The system is designed to run as a single-user interactive system. It is written almost entirely in the PASCAL programming language and consists of: a single-user operating system, PASCAL pseudomachine interpreter, PASCAL compiler, screen- and line-oriented editors, file manager, debugger, utility programs, and a BASIC compiler. Summary

This paper reviews some of the challenges to evaluation presented by integrated school-based services, and describes field-based evaluation approaches designed to yield valid and useful information about such programs. In place of the positivistic research paradigm, a multistage evaluation approach is called for that includes qualitative and quantitative and process and outcome evaluations. This approach is characterized by close collaboration between evaluators and program personnel that makes evaluation an integral part of program planning and operation.  相似文献

A new time-sharing SKED program has been developed to simultaneously conduct up to 12 behavioral experiments while the OS/8 operating system is used in the “background.” The new system provides improved control over the SKED program while allowing the experimenter to develop new programs or analyze data during the experimental session. To permit on-line control of experiments with an existing high-level interpreter language, this three-argument user function enables operation of the I/O bus, clock, and timed relays to be synchronized to external events. It also supports on-line files and machine language programs in high memory fields. The patch is reprogrammable from the interpreter and takes only 28 locations of the user area to link with the remainder, which uses one page in another memory field. Some implications of this approach for on-line experimentation are discussed.  相似文献

A computer program records, within the framework of the SKED minicomputer operating system, blood pressure and heart rate data in behavioral experiments. By repetitive (500-Hz) analog-to-digital conversions of a blood pressure waveform, the program finds and stores successive-beat systolic and diastolic pressures, and intersystolic intervals. SKED initiates and terminates blood pressure recording periods, and controls all experimental procedures. The program is currently operational, servicing four independent stations simultaneously, with sufficient computer operating time remaining to service low-priority background programs.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to describe the intelligent experimental station controller used in the extensible multiprogramming system for experimental psychology (EMPP) at the University of Washington. The EMPP system is an integrated hardware and software system designed to simplify the development of on-line psychological experiments. An intelligent graphics control system is one of the most important aspects of the system. The controller oversees the operation of eight independent experimental stations, each containing a cathode ray tube (CRT) terminal and a keyboard console. In addition to conventional computer interface functions, the controller contains an extensible hardware character generator which allows dynamic selection of the display character set. Strawberry Tree Incorporated is one of several manufacturers of input-output boards for the Macintosh computer. The Analog Connection Workbench program (Strawberry Tree Inc.) provides an icon-based programming system for these input-output boards that has most of the functions that are necessary to implement behavioral experiments. However, experimental psychologists may frequently encounter needs that the Workbench program cannot easily meet. Because the Workbench is programmed in C, whereas many psychologists are more expert in programming in Pascal, we describe, in tutorial fashion, how the user may define new external functions in Pascal on the Macintosh and integrate these functions into the icon-based Workbench programming system.  相似文献

The Operant Package for the Neurosciences (OPN) is a software system that runs on the TRS-80 Model I and Model III and the Apple II+ and Apple lie microcomputers. It is designed to allow a single microcomputer to control behavioral experiments in up to eight different stations, record experimental data, and provide detailed data analysis. Although segments of the program are written in BASIC, allowing users to interact with OPN in a simple English question-and-answer format, the part that provides real-time experimental control is written in Z-80 assembly language. The present report describes in detail assembly language algorithms that we found to facilitate speed of processing and flexibility of control. Particular problems dealt with how to update and change flag variables controlling the reinforcement contingencies and output conditions in each station, as well as how to decide when each station should shift contingencies. The solutions to these problems utilize byte-oriented parallel processing strategies, converting serially organized reference information for each station into a group of working flag bytes that control contingency and output variables for all stations in parallel.  相似文献

Software designed for the microprocessor-based psychopathology laboratory provides a powerful data collection and maintenance package. A library of prepackaged well-documented program modules has been developed to aid in developing and maintaining programs to administer experiments, to store, retrieve, and interpret data. A simple, but powerful, data base system allows new experiments to be incorporated easily, and obsolete experiments to be deleted. The data collection programs are independent of the general data base, permitting them to be moved to dedicated remote systems as necessary. The data are stored in raw form to permit the researcher to try novel approaches in interpreting existing data.  相似文献

Eye Lines is an experiment generator that differs markedly from the tachistoscope paradigm. Instead of recording reaction times and simple choices, it allows subjects to manipulate images and takes precise measurements of the results. This is useful for experiments in perception, rating scales, or any research needing analog input. A new version further refines a user interface designed to make the programs accessible to beginning students. The interface strategy includes the following: (1) the use of familiar structures, (2) the avoidance of rigid sequences, (3) a new graphic representation for the complexities of reconfiguring data, and (4) the use of context-sensitive defaults and concealment of advanced features. An extension of the traditional matching paradigm that enables researchers to test a variety of new experimental hypotheses is outlined. An on-line computer program that provides an exact small-sample test of hypotheses in the extended matching paradigm is described. Two experiments investigated two complementary hypotheses: (a) The presence of semantically unimportant function words in sentences will not slow down the way subjects, unfamiliar with the language, extract the meaning of those sentences, provided suprasegmental cues are present, and conversely (b) the omission of such function words—as in native speakers' simplified speech to nonnative speakers—will not necessarily facilitate the task of meaning extraction, contrary to popular belief. In Experiment I, Dutch adult subjects were exposed to sentences in a miniature artificial language (MAL). In Experiment II, Greek adult subjects were exposed to sentences in an unfamiliar natural language (Dutch). In both experiments, the sentences contained eight words constituting a miniature linguistic system (mls), a system that subjects discovered through an audiovisual, concept-indentification task. The rate by which subjects performed this task was investigated as a function of two linguistic variables: (a) the presence or absence of semantically unimportant function words, and (b) the presence or absence of suprasegmental cues, in the input sentences, respectively. Results from both experiments confirmed the hypotheses (p<.001) The findings are discussed with reference to the linguistic versus cognitive simplicity issue, and to the comprehension versus production issue in language acquisition research. The methodological potential of the experimental paradigm for psycholinguistic research is also discussed.This paper forms part of a doctorate research project concerned with the comprehensibility of foreigner talk, and was supported by the Foundation for Linguistic Research, which is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, NWO.  相似文献
