The desire to be a spiritual leader is a worthy goal for ministers. Misunderstanding of such leadership leads to errors: failure to face the realities of structure and organization in administration or cynicism about any relation between spiritual and organizational work. Pastoral care is not a substitute for administration. Yet, the perspective of pastoral care suggests insights that can help the pastor understand the dynamics of administrative experience.  相似文献

Conclusion I consider the years which I spent in the study of pastoral psychology as the wedge which opened the door to genuine ministry for me. I doubt if I would have stayed in the pastorate without it. Furthermore, the disciplines of that study have been the basis for continued growth. I am conscious of the need to constantly develop deeper understandings of human nature, of the methods by which people can be helped, and to become more effective in using the resources of religion in meeting human need. I am aware of the importance of supervised examination of my own early experiences in order that I may understand their relationship to my pastoral and administrative work.Pastoral psychology has helped me acknowledge the relationship between my personal emotional handicaps and my vocational function. Furthermore, I am learning to remember that most religious learning is not conceptual but experimental. Faith is caught, not taught. If persons are to know the love of God, then they need a pastor whose maturity of faith, spirit of consecration, and integrity of life incarnate God's love.  相似文献

The staff of professionally certified chaplains take an active role in ministering to the unique temporal, psychological, and spiritual needs of both patients and patients' families. These professionals serve as hosts, counselors, confidants, and friends to people who have been suddenly thrown into chaos. Summary Pastoral care has for too long been conceived as the task of the ordained clergyman alone. The concept of shared leadership now offers us a unique tool to implement the pastoral care of the whole church—the laity as well as clergy. The small group, as a locus of care and concern and as a training tool, offers a unique way by which this ministry of the laity may become a reality, but training in small group process is vitally important to release this potential.  相似文献

Conclusion and Summary The ministerial role appears to involve four basic aspects or functions: personal, counseling, pastoral, and theologizing. In order to be a minister, one must be available as a fellow human, with some psychological skill, able to share spiritual or religious activity, and willing to articulate theologically to himself the meaning of his experiences for his personal faith. These aspects of the ministerial role are exemplified in the encounters of divinity students with disabled and dying patients. Because of the challenge that life presents to sincere faith, and because one or more of the four functions are often stressed in an isolated way, offensive stereotypes of the minister are pervasive. p ]Abhorrence of being identified as such a person made the ministerial candidates in this report reluctant to act or even speak in any religious way. The desire to become a psychologist or counselor and avoid theological topics, strong in the beginning, tended to disappear toward the end of the year. These phenomena were seen as natural phases of sequential growth in the struggle to understand the needs of other persons for a minister. As shift from self-concern to concern for the other occurred, the students became more open to learning from the patients how human and religious needs can be served without desecration to either.  相似文献
