In this article, we introduce a preliminary, neurobiologically informed model of group therapy that links the timing and nature of specific group interventions with hypothesized changing neurobiological needs of the group. We suggest that the observed phases of group development reflect an underlying reorganization of neuronal circuitry that occurs as members progress through a hierarchically organized treatment, and that this reorganization involves the integration and homeostatic rebalancing of subcortical and neural networks. Our preliminary Dynamic Relational Model suggests that an understanding of the neurobiological processes involved in group development may help inform and direct effective group-based psychotherapy interventions.  相似文献

Preoedipal patients present a special problem in group treatment. This is because their difficulties arose largely before they learned to use words. Such patients are prone to act. rather than talk. They do not respond well to interpretation. They must be approached and influenced through feelings. We can utilize the group to provide them with maturational experiences, helping them reach a more adult level of mental functioning so that our usual technical interventions can be brought into play. The paper discusses methods for enhancing this process, including reflection, emotional communication, using reconstruction to close developmental gaps, and immunization.  相似文献

Abstract

Many studies on therapeutic factors in group psychotherapy were done during the 1970s and 1980s, primarily with Western samples. The present study was carried out in a psychiatric inpatient clinic in Turkey. Using Yalom’s (1975) therapeutic factor questionnaire administered at discharge, patients rated existential factor, instillation of hope and self–understanding as the most helpful factors and identification as the least helpful. There were significant differences among patients with regard to gender, age, education, and comorbid personality disorder, but not with Axis I diagnosis or number of attended sessions. Patients’ and psychiatrist’s ratings showed significant differences. Differences between this Turkish sample and those reported in common Western literature are discussed under the light of relatedness psychology, which is an important concept of cross–cultural psychology.  相似文献

An instrument designed to measure components of two distinct alcoholism aftercare treatments was developed and evaluated for reliability and validity. Trained judges reliably rated audiotaped samples of coping skills and interactional group therapy sessions. Coping skills groups engaged in significantly more education and skill training, problem solving, and role playing. Interactional groups showed more interpersonal learning, expression/exploration of feelings, and here-and-now focus. Groups that employed more education and skill training, less expression and exploration of feelings, and less her e-and-now focus were associated with fewer members reporting subsequent drinking-related problems. None of the ratings of group activities was related to abstinence.  相似文献

This paper examines the dilemmas psychodynamic clinicians face in dealing with the challenges of the current clinical climate. We look to our theories, to the evolution of psychodynamic technique and to the collaborative nature of the therapeutic endeavor as they relate to the goals of psychotherapy. A case illustration is provided, and guidelines are offered for current professional practice.  相似文献

There is little evidence that the development and resolution of a regressive transference neurosis is an important or useful experience for patients in once-a-week outpatient group psychotherapy. Rather, research evidence and clinical experience suggest that a broad range of therapeutic factors are important. Before group treatment, patients expect to gain from insight, catharsis, interpersonal output, and interpersonal input. Patients who have had short therapeutic experiences indicate that catharsis, learning to trust others, and learning how one relates to others are most important. In longer-term therapies, a broad range of factors comes into play, including universalization, altruism, guidance, and existential factors, in addition to catharsis, insight, and interpersonal learning.  相似文献
