When assumed by positions of dominance, the impersonal, analytical perspectives of scholar-narrators may serve to flatten, simplify, or render invisible the differences of constructed Others. Strategies of resistance necessarily correspond to where narrator-subjects enter relations of power. Without the presence of Others’ narrations, dominance can neither value newly visible subjective agency nor confront the complicity in its own subjectivity. Intersubjectivity suggests a dialogical process that utilizes differences in lived experience to reconceive relationality.  相似文献

This article introduces a Buddhist Sutra about filial piety. The Sutra has been widely recited, upheld, and endeared by East Asian people for centuries. It teaches the importance of understanding parents' kindnesses, particularly the mother's, and repaying their kindnesses. It explains the difficulty of repaying parents' kindnesses, unfilial behaviors of children, the mystical hell into which unfilial children are doomed to fall, and the way in which they can repay their parents' kindnesses. This article explores the intersection of clinical narcissism and Buddhist meditation practice. Through the lens of Otto Kernberg and Heinz Kohut’s theories of narcissism, the article investigates the many facets of Eastern spiritual practice when undertaken by a narcissistic practitioner. In particular, questions are raised regarding the potential psychological dangers of pursuing meditation practice when suffering from clinical narcissism. Potential applications for a cross-pollination of psychoanalytic support and Buddhist practice are also considered for the narcissistic patient and/or spiritual practitioner.  相似文献

Abstract

Scholars contend that agency is at the heart of cultivating equitable learning spaces for all learners. While it is intuitive that literacy educators support agency during instruction, there is diverse terminology surrounding the concept of agency in the field. As a result, aligning the construct to instructional practices and developing a conceptual understanding of agency in practice has been challenging. Our research team completed a systematic literature review of agency during literacy instruction. In this article, we describe findings of this review of empirical research on agency in literacy spanning from 1975–2017. Findings highlight the complexities associated with defining agency as well as the need for diverse methodological approaches to examining agency in literacy contexts.  相似文献

地论学派自从慧光之后,以法上--慧远、道凭--灵裕为两大主流,这是就北齐佛教对北魏佛教的继承而言.但是,由于宇文泰、宇文护的奉佛,在僧实的领导下,西魏、北周佛教获得一定的发展;而且,由于西魏征服梁朝的巴蜀、荆襄等地,迁移江南人口至关中,于是南朝佛教亦随之北传.所以,西魏、北周佛教在地论学派佛学体系的基础上,融合南朝佛学,编纂<菩萨藏众经要>二十二卷、<一百二十法门>一卷等.本文依敦煌文献B.8388(潜71)、B.8389(制8),恢复与重现了<一百二十法门>;同时,日本大谷大学藏敦煌本"<菩萨藏修道众经抄>卷第十二",即是<菩萨藏经要>的第十二卷.从此,可以看出西魏、北周佛教对佛教的弘扬与理论创造.  相似文献

In recent years, the issue of value conflicts in counseling has become more salient, whereas equitably working with such conflicts has been increasingly contested. Interest in the confluence of counseling and spirituality has also grown. Using relevant Buddhist principles, the authors offer a spiritual framework that is illustrated through clinical case studies. These are used to conceptualize concerns, understand the conflict, and find ways to be responsive to the disjunction between client and counselor.  相似文献

We examined how two male gender-related traits, agency (focus on self) and unmitigated agency (focus on self to the exclusion of others), were related to physical and emotional functioning in 162 men (92% Caucasian) treated for prostate cancer. As predicted, unmitigated agency was associated with worse functioning and more cancer-related difficulties. By contrast, agency was associated with better functioning and fewer cancer-related difficulties. We tested whether difficulties expressing emotions explained these relations. Unmitigated agency was associated with difficulty expressing emotions, and agency was associated with the ability to express emotions. Structural equation modeling was used to show that emotional expressiveness mediated the relations of unmitigated agency and agency to adjustment to prostate cancer. The implications of these results for interventions to enhance men's adjustment to prostate cancer are discussed.  相似文献

If intense pain is "world-destroying," as Elaine Scarry has argued, one of the ways nurses respond to that loss is by re-enacting the commonplace-both in practice and in writing-through daily, accumulating acts of care. Such care poses a critique of medicine's emphasis on the exceptional moment and stresses forms of physical tending that are quotidian rather than heroic, ongoing rather than permanent or conclusive. I develop this view of care through the writings of nurses like Walt Whitman, Louisa May Alcott, Cortney Davis and Joyce Renwick.  相似文献

The mindfulness literature, now extended beyond strict Buddhist and psychotherapeutic contexts, has trended in some important directions, giving rise to both conflict and opportunity. In terms of mindfulness-directed effort, which academic disciplines are outpacing which? Has the degree of disembeddedness from Buddhist contexts changed over time? What is the relationship between trends in mindfulness, meditation, and Buddhism-oriented literature? Through a bibliometric analysis of mindfulness literature within academic journals, several patterns emerge. Results support a substantial increase in ‘academic effort’ toward mindfulness, crossing a number of disciplines, independent of increased publications concerning meditation, Buddhism, or in these fields at large. While the psychological disciplines have dominated mindfulness literature for several decades, their ‘share’ of the overall pool of academic literature has not increased in recent years. Mindfulness-related effort in the humanities, too, is at an all-time high, but not so from a ‘share’ perspective. Other disciplines are grabbing a larger slice of the pie. This bibliometric analysis aids the interdisciplinary field of mindfulness studies in exploring where they started, factors contributing to subsequent transformations, and how discrete contributing fields relate to one another in the context of the overall field of mindfulness studies.  相似文献
