This article presents an experiential group model of supervision constructed for both group and individual therapy presentations, emphasizing concepts from object relations theory and group-as-a-whole dynamics. It focuses on intrapsychic, interpersonal, and systems processes, and stresses the group aspect of the supervisory process. Its central thesis is that material presented in a group supervisory setting stimulates conscious and unconscious parallel processes in group members. Through here-and-now responses, associations, and interactions among the supervisory members, countertransference issues that have eluded the presenter can make themselves known and be worked through on emotional as well as cognitive levels. Selected excerpts from supervisory sessions demonstrate various attributes and strengths of the model.  相似文献

Sexuality is an underlying, but often unspoken and ignored issue in group psychotherapy. Within the context of how a group reacts to and uses sexuality, the authors focus on three relationship areas: client/client, client/therapist, and therapist/therapist. Some of the hazards of failing to deal with sexually laden conflicts and intimacy issues in these relationships are explored. Some of the advantages of an open and honest approach to uncovering sexrole related stereotypes and behaviors are proposed. The authors attempt to demonstrate that recognition of therapists' and group members' sexuality must be appreciated as an important element in the therapeutic process.  相似文献

Countertransference issues are of particular importance to the beginning group therapist. This paper describes the role of supervision in helping the beginning group therapist deal with counter-transference issues as they effect the formation of a group and the role that the group leader plays in facilitating therapeutic activity within the group. Particular problem areas and the countertransference they evoke and the role of supervision in working through are described. The author wishes to acknowledge the suggestions and support of Aaron Stein, M.D., and other members of the Division of Group Psychotherapy of the Department of Psychiatry of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.  相似文献

This paper describes a form of combined psychotherapy in which the individual sessions are used as an adjunct to group therapy. Each group member is seen regularly in individual sessions to focus primarily on the member's ongoing group work. The individual sessions are scheduled on a rotating basis. Typically, each group member is seen in an individual session once every four weeks. Additional individual sessions are available only when immediate attention is appropriate and necessary. The group is viewed as the primary therapeutic component. A cost-effective therapeutic approach that uses both individual and group methods, this modality lends itself well to a clinic and to a private practice setting.  相似文献

Objective

The aim of this study was to examine supervisees' perspectives about the contribution of two predefined aspects of supervision, supervisory bond (SB) and didactic input of supervisor (DI), to their ascribed outcome of therapy.

Method

Supervisees anonymously assessed the SB, supervisors' DI and their contribution to therapy outcome. Assessment was quantitative and qualitative. The supervisory aspects were assessed using a questionnaire constructed for this study. Perceived contribution was evaluated by two scaled questions, and themes generated by an open question. Supervisees (n = 111) evaluated 16 supervisors and supervision’s contribution to psychotherapy outcomes of 111 clients.

Findings

Hierarchical regression showed that supervisees' age, supervisors' status and frequency of supervision accounted for 24% of the variance ascribed to outcome. SB and DI accounted for 51% of the variance. These values, which are higher than reported in the literature, may be attributed to the assessment of predefined aspects of supervision by the same assessor. Thematic analysis of the didactic input produced more themes than for the supervisory bond.

Conclusion

Sociodemographic variables and supervisory relationship variables determine supervisees' evaluations of supervision’s contribution to outcome.

Implications for practice

Training and supervision may benefit from information obtained from quantitative and qualitative measures regarding these and other predefined variables related to supervision. The in-depth look at views and experiences shared by supervisees may advance training, practice and research.  相似文献

Psychotherapists in training and beyond are expected to receive regular clinical supervision. In Britain many practitioners are required to have life long supervision. This paper draws on recent research into supervision, and highlights a number of areas that have been identified as problematic, including: power and control, spirituality, touch, ethical issues and secrecy. It is suggested that a professional culture of supervision has been constructed that may not reflect the best interests of either clients or practitioners. The implications of this perspective are explored.  相似文献
