The author presents a short-term, homogeneous model for treating schizophrenic patients in discussion-oriented therapy groups. Typically, patients attend nine sessions in the open inpatient groups and 12 sessions in the closed outpatient groups. The two goals of this co-therapy approach are to help patients cope with psychotic experiences and improve their interpersonal relationships. Discussions focus on hallucinations, delusions, loose associations, and maladaptive relationships, and anxiety-producing topics are avoided. The format is interaction-oriented and emphasizes the here and now. Empirical evidence supports the value of this short-term group therapy approach when it is used in conjunction with antipsychotic medications and long-term follow-up.  相似文献

On the assumption that Spanish-speaking, culturally deprived female patients can profit from group psychotherapy, the author shares her experiences and findings with this population. After examining the differences between the Spanish-speaking psychiatric clinic patients in a large urban medical center and the traditional, verbal, motivated patient, the author suggests modification of treatment techniques in group therapy. She proposes various aproaches that take into account the disparate cultural orientation and value system of this group in order to meet their needs and provide a more effective treatment outcome.  相似文献

This paper presents an eclectic orientation to group therapy, which guides the authors' clinical work with adolescents diagnosed as both mentally ill and mentally handicapped. Highlighted are the treatment needs and the difficulties working with this population, theories of group process and their implication for treatment, and specific clinical techniques that foster individual and group growth. Specificallly, this paper outlines the clinical rationale and group interventions used in a process-oriented group for dual-diagnosed adolescents residing in a residential setting. This group is designed to develop the clients' interpersonal understanding and skills, which will hopefully enhance their overall adaptation and functioning in the residential milieu. It is believed that the integration of a variety of theoretical approaches is critical for group therapy with this population. He was Senior Cottage Therapist or Unit Director at the William Roper Hull Child and Family Services, Calgary, Alberta, while doing group work with dualdiagnosed adolescents. He was a Cottage Therapist at Hull Child and Family Services, while doing the group work cited in this pape  相似文献

This paper describes a model for group analytic psychotherapy with patients who have been psychotic, namely, schizophrenics and manic depressives. The groups are run on the group centered principles of S. H. Foulkes. They are continuous, slow-open groups, in line with these patients' needs for long-term therapy. A theory is proposed which justifies treating these patients in group-centered groups despite their great dependency needs. The paper also describes the task of the therapist in building and running such a group.Acknowledgments to Geoffrey Elkan, Marcia Levene, Noa Rotem, Aya Levi-Posnanski, Yossi Ezrati, S.
