Voluntary or involuntary migration and international work patterns have made it necessary for many people to adopt a new country and with it, a new language. Some of these latter-acquisition proficient bilinguals may seek therapy in this country. A small scale qualitative study was conducted, informed by a constructionist epistemology, in order to explore the meanings that participants gave to their experience of working in English with a client or patient who used English, proficiently, as a second language. Interviews were conducted with 10 therapists who had been contacted through counselling and psychotherapy organizations, and professional networks. Results indicated that participants experienced varying degrees of separation and distance from their bilingual clients. They found it necessary to pay extra attention to their clients' communications on all levels in order to make a good connection. An awareness of the underlying psychodynamic implications of bilingualism is helpful for the assessment of bilingual clients, in supervision and training, and in the ongoing work.

This Research Note proposes that modern art painters make their best works at the optimal moment in their lives, a moment that could then be associated with the Divine proportion (the Fibonacci phi). An analysis of 189 highest-priced works by as many modern art painters, comparing the moment of creation with their life span of these artists, yielded the remarkable result that the estimated fraction is 0.6198, which indeed is only 0.0018 away from the divine fraction.

In two experiments, participants were asked to perform simple action statements or to imagine performing the actions one, two, or four times in a single study session. The lag between repetitions could vary from 5 to 10 intervening items in Experiment 1 or be fixed at 0 and 4 in Experiment 2. In a test session that occurred either 24 or 48 hours later, participants were instructed to recognise statements only if they had occurred during the first session and, if recognised, to tell whether the action statement had been carried out or imagined. The primary finding was that it is possible to obtain an imagination inflation effect (that is, as repeated imaginations increase, participants are more likely to remember an action as performed) using a within-list paradigm. However, this outcome occurred only for spaced repetitions. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that repeated imagination increases the level of familiarity, which may, in turn, generate this memory illusion.
