Culture in the Mediation of International Disputes

Unlike most treatments of culture in international diplomacy, this article suggests that culture can play a positive role in the mediation of international disputes. Cultural ties between the mediator and one or both of the disputants can facilitate mediation by, among other things, enhancing the mediator's acceptability to the parties, and enhancing the belief that the mediator can deliver concessions and agreements. Moreover, a mediator who is closer to one side than the other can be effective in mediation, especially when the mediator acts in an even‐handed manner. Data from laboratory research on mediation, as well as anecdotal evidence, support this view.     

Facilitating the Academic Success of International Students

International seminarians seeking an education at academic institutions located in the United States often face a host of learning challenges. Seminary faculty that teach in these institutions are often confronted with a need to adjust their teaching methods to facilitate learning by international students. This essay outlines specific strategies to facilitate academic success of international seminarians by offering specific teaching methods for faculty and learning strategies for international students. Topics include training faculty in how to respond to diverse learning styles, expanding learning environments beyond the classroom, methods for enhancing student participation, and development of assignments. Strategies for student success include developing skills in how to improve note taking, critical reading, and writing.     

简论跨国公司经营中的企业社会责任

基于利益相关者理论的企业社会责任实践能够有效地建立与维持企业的长期竞争优势。将企业社会责任理念融入企业的经营战略和经营方式、作为企业文化的核心内容,是跨国公司经营获得成功的重要因素。随着我国越来越多的企业走出国门开展跨国经营,我国跨国经营企业应努力协调中国传统文化价值观与西方文化价值观之间的矛盾和冲突,以尊重之心处理好企业与利益相关者的关系,逐步提升企业社会责任意识,为所在国的经济社会发展做出贡献。     

International Representation in the Psychological Literature

The author searched PsycLit records to examine the representation of psychological research from outside the US and changes in international representation over time. American research dominates, but international representation has increased since 1975. Western Europe, Japan, Australia, and Israel in particular have become better represented. In contrast, developing nations have remained poorly represented for most of the time period examined. Relative national influence may accurately reflect the numbers of psychologists in general, and research psychologists in particular, in each nation. Psychologists in developing nations also focus on teaching, clinical, and social issues, and have few resources for research activities. International representation is likely to continue increasing.

心理传记学是采用心理学的理论和方法来研究非凡人物生命故事的一门学问。文章对百余年来国际心理传记学的发展状况进行了回顾,将其发展分为三个阶段：案例研究阶段、理论探索阶段和学科发展阶段。该学科在传主资料的筛选与处理方法、解释模型等理论研究方面已获得了较丰富的成果,并已形成三个稳定的研究领域。在我国开展心理传记学研究,要避免人物研究的病理化倾向和艺术式的纯质化道路,并加强应用探讨以及着手进行中国杰出心理学家的心理传记研究。
