The historic development of therapeutic communities is discussed, and it is shown that the term has been neither conceptualized not operationalized. Their unclear aims are considered to be utopian, and the author stresses that previous studies on such communities have been too superficial. The following problems have not hitherto received attention: 1. micro- and macrosocial relationships, 2. the role of the supervisor (authority problems), 3. norms and valuation systems, 4. discipline and sanctions, 5. the problem of roles, 6. questions of indicants and efficacy. The introduction of therapeutic communities is superfluous as a means of improving the socialist health services: it is sufficient to implement the principles of socialist democracy by means of appropriate training programmes.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors present a model for therapeutic community programmes for those with severe and enduring mental ill health, based on social networks. These programmes have given birth to a range of therapeutic community which are, in fact, an innovative form of group psychotherapy. These new model do not depend on communal living. Some are groupings of apartments, others day units. Work schemes also feature here. And yet, as the authors outline, various components need to be present if these are to be considered genuine therapeutic communities and not just supported housing schemes. Additionally, a certain kind of training and clinical supervision is needed for the staff.  相似文献

The extant literature on the death row process and its relationship to inmate execution is limited. One way to interpret the association is to examine those groups constituting the death row community. In this study, we argue for the existence of an execution community composed of several related membership groups: the prisoner awaiting death, the inmate's family, the correctional personnel working the unit, and the victim and the victim's loved ones. In order to assess whether, and to what extent, a death row community in fact exists, we rely on several principles found in community psychology. By grafting a "sense of community" model onto the behavior of those membership groups identified, we demonstrate how the death row community phenomenon cohesively operates. We conclude by tentatively exploring the implications of our analysis for purposes of future research on the execution experience and life on death row.  相似文献

The anti‐Cartesian idea that a person's thoughts are not entirely fixed by what goes on inside that person's head is suggested by Hegel, and echoed in Wittgenstein and Frege. An argument for the view has recently been given by Tyler Burge. This paper claims that Burge's data can be explained better by an individualistic theory. The basic idea is that an individual's thoughts are specified analogically, in ordinary discourse, through the model of a language. Though the modelling‐sentences are public, the thoughts of the individual are inner states whose identity does not depend upon those sentences. They have content naturally, whether or not content happens to be ascribed to them.  相似文献

An examination of the thesis of Asian megatrends as conceived of in the literature until recent times, is reviewed. Major ramifications within it, such as the role of Asian values, economic growth and development, a self‐reliant nationalism different from the West, and the rise of a human development concept, are critically examined. Yet the role of community as substantively defined in this paper, is found to have remained ignored in the study of major megatrends between the West and the East. This remiss in the study of human futures within a politico‐economic developmental context is argued to cause unsustainability of the megatrends paradigm. The projected decline of the Asian megatrends is shown to arise from its absence of an understanding of a ‘globally’ interactive, integrative and evolutionary process of understanding historical change. Within this new paradigm the epistemology of community is shown to play a much more substantive role than simply the pursuit of growth and development in the midst of capitalist globalism. Substantive methodological implications are shown to emanate from such a different view of studying megatrends in general. The concept of objective globalization is thereby derived.  相似文献

Therapeutic Communities (TC's) have become increasingly popular in the treatment of substance abusing psychotherapy clients. Their popularity appears to have stemmed from the failures of traditional and more individual treatment modalities. Approaches focusing on immeasurable constructs and often irrelevant past events are argued to contribute to symptom maintenance and resistance in this client population. It is argued that a more direct, responsibility-oriented approach be implemented in a systematic and consistent fashion in order to facilitate treatment. The systematic application of Rational-Emotive Therapy in a self-contained therapeutic system is discussed.Raymond J. Yeager Ph.D., is Director of Psychological Services at A.P.P.L.E.
