亲爱的读者,您大概已经从一些报刊或报告中读到或听到,人们把未来的社会叫做信息社会吧。生活在信息社会的人,总是离不开信息的制造、信息的传递、信息的利用等方面的活动。然而,信息的制造、信息的传递、信息的利用等等,又都和人们的思维活动密不可分。为着迎接未来社会的到来,就要求现代人们的思维,比以往任何时候都更有效、更合理、更有条理。为此,人们就要比以往任何时候更注意思维能力的训练和提高。学习逻辑学,则是人们训练和提高

“你们要完全,像你们的天父完全一样”这一节,可以说是对论爱仇敌教训的总结,也可以说是对整个登山宝训中耶稣伦理教训的总结。《申命记》第18章第13节记载,你要在耶和华你的上帝面前作完全人;《利未记》第19章第2节记载,你们要圣洁,因为我耶和华你们的上帝是圣洁的。在旧的时代,上帝就向人发向要追求完全(圣洁)的呼召。上帝在宇宙中彰显其完全、伟大之爱,他叫日头照好人,也照歹人;降雨给义人,也给不义的人。如果我们完全效法上帝     

Blinding me with (queer) science: religion, sexuality, and (post?) modernity

This essay brings to bear insights from continental philosophers Michel Foucault and Judith Butler on the science of (homo)sexuality and, more importantly, the desire to use such science to resolve contemporary conflicts over homosexuality’s acceptability. So-called “queer science” remains deeply beholden to modern notions of sex, gender, and sexuality, the author argues, a schematic that its premodern (Christian) roots further denaturalize. The philosophical insights drawn from this analysis are then applied to the controversy over homosexuality within global Christianity that often pits the “backward” former colonies against the “modern” west.     

Is collective intelligence (mostly) the General Factor of Personality? A comment on Woolley,Chabris, Pentland,Hashmi and Malone (2010)

A recent paper [Woolley, Chabris, Pentland, Hashmi, & Malone. (2010). Evidence for a collective intelligence factor in the performance of human groups. Science, 330, 686–688] presents evidence for the existence of a general collective intelligence factor, ‘c,’ which may undergird performance on a variety of group tasks. This factor appears to be only modestly correlated with the average and maximum intelligence of group members whilst being more strongly correlated with the average social sensitivity of group members, a tendency for several members to contribute to group conversations rather than a small number dominating the discussions, and the proportion of females in the group. An alternative hypothesis, not considered by the authors, is that the General Factor of Personality (GFP) is able to account for the correlates of c observed, and that c may therefore be primarily a group level manifestation of the GFP, with a subordinate contribution from general intelligence. We maintain that a consideration of the GFP and its correlates as potential confounding variables would be of considerable benefit to future research into collective intelligence.     

When, what, and whom to watch? Quantifying attention in ravens (Corvus corax) and jackdaws (Corvus monedula)

Complex social life requires monitoring of conspecifics. The amount and focus of attention toward others has been suggested to depend on the social relationships between individuals. Yet there are surprisingly few experiments that have tested these assumptions. This study compared attention patterns toward conspecifics in two corvid species, ravens (Corvus corax) and jackdaws (Corvus monedula). Birds were confronted with affiliated and non-affiliated conspecifics engaged in foraging and object manipulation. Visual access to the model bird was provided through two observation holes, which allowed measurement of exactly how often and for how long observers watched the other. Overall, ravens were more attentive to conspecifics than were jackdaws. Moreover, only ravens showed higher interest toward food-related than object-related behaviors of the model and toward close affiliates than non-affiliates by increasing the duration rather than the frequency of looks. These results are in accordance with predictions derived from the species' foraging biology and suggest that the facultative social, but highly manipulative, ravens use and value information from others differently than do the obligate social jackdaws.

携手共进,助力脱贫攻坚(三)

正本期我们继续与大家分享基督教全国两会开展的助力脱贫攻坚的事工。河北保定深水井项目。河北省保定市涞源县乌龙沟乡小庄村是一个偏僻贫困的山村,全村生活用水靠山泉水及收集后简单净化的雨水,水质不达标,而且经常出现断水问题。2017年10月20日,基督教全国两会出资15万元,在当地建成2眼深100米的深水井,彻底解决全村448人的生活用水、特色种植需水及部分农田作物灌溉等,从而增加农民收入,助力共同富裕目标的实现。
