A rapidly aging population with its mental health care needs presents an enormous challenge in the current mental health field.
In light of this, pastoral counselors will have an increasingly important role to play in the care of older adults because
of their strategic position in the community and their competence in dealing with religious/spiritual issues particularly
salient in old age. This article proposes a short-term integrative approach to enable pastoral counselors to effectively and
efficiently meet the mental health care needs of the elderly.

Internalist pluralism is an attractive and elegant theory. However, there are two apparently powerful objections to this approach
that prevent its widespread adoption. According to the first objection, the resulting analysis of religious belief systems
is intrinsically atheistic; while according to the second objection, the analysis is unsatisfactory because it allows religious
objects simply to be defined into existence. In this article, I demonstrate that an adherent of internalist pluralism can
deflect both of these objections, and in the course of so arguing, I deploy a distinction between “conceptual-scheme targetability”
and “successful conceptual-scheme targeting”.

This essay proposes a phenomenological approach to the viewing of Japanese hard-core animation (widely known in the West as
“hentai”), a type of erotica frequently characterized by detailed, unusual and fantastic depictions of sexual activity habitually
intended for sexual arousal. Pertinent instances of Japanese traditions of erotica and visual representation, as well as Japanese
animation and its industry are briefly reviewed. The main theoretical focus is on the experience of viewing such animated
material and is mostly informed by Western notions of pornography and film viewing, particularly Vivian Sobchack’s work on
the phenomenology of film.

Relatively little is known about the factor structure of disruptive behavior among preadolescent girls. The present study
reports on exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses of disruptive girl behavior over four successive data waves as rated
by parents and teachers in a large, representative community sample of girls (N = 2,451). Five factors were identified from parent ratings (oppositional behavior/conduct problems, inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity,
relational aggression, and callous-unemotional behaviors), and four factors were identified derived from teacher ratings (oppositional
behavior/conduct problems/callous-unemotional behaviors, inattention, hyperactivityimpulsivity, and relational aggression).
There was a high degree of consistency of items loading on equivalent factors across parent and teacher ratings. Year-to-year
stability of factors between ages five and 12 was high for parent ratings (ICC = 0.70 to 0.88), and slightly lower for teacher
ratings (ICC = 0.56 to 0.83). These findings are discussed in terms of possible adjustment to the criteria for children's
disruptive behavior disorders found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders.

This article analyzes the moral relevance of technological artifacts and its possible role in ethical theory, by taking the
postphenomenological approach that has developed around the work of Don Ihde into the domain of ethics. By elaborating a postphenomenological
analysis of the mediating role of ultrasound in moral decisions about abortion, the article argues that technologies embody
morality and help to constitute moral subjectivity. This technological mediation of the moral subject is subsequently addressed
in terms of Michel Foucault’s ethical position, in which ethics is about actively co-shaping one’s moral subjectivity. Integrating
Foucauldian ethics and postphenomenology, the article argues that the technological mediation of moral subjectivity should
be at the heart of an ethical approach that takes the moral dimensions of technology seriously.

In this paper we discuss visualizations in mathematics from a historical and didactical perspective. We consider historical
debates from the 17th and 19th centuries regarding the role of intuition and visualizations in mathematics. We also consider
the problem of what a visualization in mathematical learning can achieve. In an empirical study we investigate what mathematical
conclusions university students made on the basis of a visualization. We emphasize that a visualization in mathematics should
always be considered in its proper context.

This article considers the question of whether it is meaningful to speak of privacy rights in public spaces, and the possibility
of such rights framing the basis for regulating or restricting the use of surveillance technologies such as closed circuit
television (CCTV). In particular, it responds to a recent article by Jesper Ryberg that suggests that there is little difference
between being watched by private individuals and CCTV cameras, and instead argues that state surveillance is qualitatively
different from (and more problematic than) surveillance by ‘lonely old ladies’.

This article seeks to explain the relationship between religion and healing with special reference to the phenomenon of ritual
healing. Relying on diverse research findings that articulate the relationship between ritual and healing, this article contends
that the clinical efficacy of ritual is sustainable by invoking the concepts of self-healing and placebo effect, and that
its efficacy lies in its performance, not in its meaning being either decodable by the ritual performers or theologically
encodable by professional thinkers. This, I contend, has practical implications for pastoral care and counseling ministry.

In this essay I compare Nussbaum’s and Arendt’s approach to narrativity. The point of the comparison is to find out which
approach is more adequate for practical philosophy: the approach influenced by cognitive theory (Nussbaum) or the one influenced
by hermeneutic phenomenology (Arendt). I conclude that Nussbaum’s approach is flawed by methodological solipsism, which is
due to her application of cognitive theory.

This article confronts growing conservative opposition to abortion based on the claim that abortion is morally equivalent
to infanticide. By examining the relationship between moral skepticism and precautionary ethics the article promotes a completely
permissive position on abortion from conception to birth while consistently rejecting the possibility that such a position
entails permissive implications for infanticide. The article introduces and traces the implicit relationship between moral
skepticism, the precautionary principle and political liberalism.

In “Action without interaction” (2005) I showed that one might act on a physical system (there, a particle), without interacting
with it, by the procedure of making it disappear. This paper presents further extensions and a critique of that result. These
extensions show why physical actions without interaction are possible, while underscoring the philosophical fertility of a
characteristic approach to the actual infinite inaugurated by Benardete.
