ABSTRACT

Unsteady-state upward solidification experiment was carried out with the Al-3Cu-3Ni (wt.%) alloy. Temperature profiles were obtained through a water-cooled directional solidification device. Analysis on the resulting as-cast microstructure and its adaptation to thermal solidification parameter, such as growth and cooling rates and solidification local time, VL, TR and tSL, respectively, was carried out. The results showed that the resulting microstructure is constituted by an Al-rich primary phase (Al α ), characterised by a dendritic network, and by second phases that take place within the interdendritic regions, forming a eutectic mixture composed by the β-Al3Ni?+?θ-Al2Cu intermetallic compounds (IMCs), whose size and morphology have been affected by VL and TR. The length of the microstructural scale of the Al α phase was measured by the secondary dendritic spacing (λ 2). The experimental mathematical expression of λ 2 obtained in this work was compared with mathematical models proposed in the literature that associate tSL-λ 2 for non-equilibrium and equilibrium solidification conditions.  相似文献

Abstract

A high-resolution X-ray scattering experiment has been performed on quasicrystalline (T2) and crystalline (R) phases of AlCuLi alloys. Peak widths determined from the diffraction profile of the R phase are found to scale with momentum transfer G, similar to the strain-broadening effect seen in conventional crystals with small unit cells. A narrowing of peak widths on annealing is also observed. On the other hand, diffraction peak widths in I-phase samples obtained by rapid solidification are found to scale with phason momentum G 1, similar to that observed in large faceted crystals. Thermal annealing of the I phase is found to have no effect on peak widths. Our findings are discussed in the light of models for crystals and quasicrystals.  相似文献

Monotonically convergent algorithms are described for maximizing six (constrained) functions of vectors x, or matricesX with columns x1, ..., x r . These functions are h1(x)= k (xA kx)(xC kx)–1, H1(X)= k tr (XA k X)(XC k X)–1, h1(X)= k l (x l A kx l ) (x l C kx l )–1 withX constrained to be columnwise orthonormal, h2(x)= k (xA kx)2(xC kx)–1 subject to xx=1, H2(X)= k tr(XA kX)(XAkX)(XCkX)–1 subject toXX=I, and h2(X)= k l (x l A kx l )2 (x l C kX l )–1 subject toXX=I. In these functions the matricesC k are assumed to be positive definite. The matricesA k can be arbitrary square matrices. The general formulation of the functions and the algorithms allows for application of the algorithms in various problems that arise in multivariate analysis. Several applications of the general algorithms are given. Specifically, algorithms are given for reciprocal principal components analysis, binormamin rotation, generalized discriminant analysis, variants of generalized principal components analysis, simple structure rotation for one of the latter variants, and set component analysis. For most of these methods the algorithms appear to be new, for the others the existing algorithms turn out to be special cases of the newly derived general algorithms.This research has been made possible by a fellowship from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences to the author. ABSTRACT

Copper-mould-cast Al–Cu–Ni alloys show adjacent coexistence of in situ grown ordered and eutectic phases. A bimodal microstructure of α–Al and eutectic α-Al+θ-Al2Cu phases with length-scale hierarchy evolves during solidification. Microstructural analysis through Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) shows the presence of Vacancy-ordered phases (VOPs) with different morphologies in two different compositions.  相似文献

Precipitates have been observed in the primary silicon of as-spray-formed hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloys with and without various alloy additions. The precipitates have been investigated using transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. They are aluminium based and generally adopt a spheroidal morphology, with diameters in the range of approximately 5-10nm, unless located on a stacking fault or grain boundary. Spray forming is a rapid solidification process and precipitation occurs because of the low solid solubility of aluminium in silicon (maximum of 0.016 +/- 0.003at.% at 1190 C). The morphology of the precipitates suggests that they form from aluminium or aluminium-rich liquid. The orientation relationships of several precipitates in one of the primary silicon grains have been determined.  相似文献

By eliminating the effect of the magnetic moment arising from the magnetic crystalline anisotropy, the effect of the thermoelectric magnetic force on the array of dendrites during directional solidification of Al–35?wt%Cu and Al-40?wt%Cu alloys in a high magnetic field has been investigated experimentally. The results indicate that the dendrite array is essentially destroyed, a result that could have general significance for understanding the processes involved in the solidification of alloys in a magnetic field.  相似文献

We report the synthesis of nanoembedded biphasic alloy particles of In–Sn near eutectic alloy compositions embedded in an aluminium matrix by rapid solidification processing. Detailed transmission electron microscopy indicates that the two phases present at room temperature in as-synthesized samples are β and γ phases with tetragonal and hexagonal crystal structures, respectively. These co-exist with a small amount of single phase In or Sn particles with sizes less than 10?nm. Low temperature magnetization measurements indicate a superconducting transition temperature of 5?K, suggesting complete decomposition of the β-phase at small sizes and at low temperature. The small particles show type II behavior with a critical field Hc1≈44?G and two values for Hc2 of 250 and 1000?G, respectively. These values are considerably lower than those observed in bulk In–Sn alloys.  相似文献

Ordered In x Ga1??? x P alloys have been grown on to GaAs(001) substrates by metal–organic vapour-phase epitaxy. Lattice-matched compositions of alloys (In x Ga1??? x P with x?≈?0.5) were used in order to produce epitaxial layers free of structural defects (threading dislocations). Growth temperature and substrate orientation were adjusted to control the degree η, of order, of the alloys in the range 0.3–0.5. Nanoindentation tests were carried out to measure the mechanical response of the heteroepitaxial layers. Transmission electron microscopy was used to characterize the structure as well as the plastic zones generated into the specimen by nanoindentation. Comparison of the alloys with binary references (InP and GaP bare substrates) showed strengthening, with the hardness and flow-stress values that are much larger than those of InP and of the same order of magnitude as those of GaP.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Damping is the ability to reduce the energy produced by vibrations in a system. In this research, the eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs), AlCoxCrFeNi2.1 (x?=?0.7, 1.0 and 1.5), are firstly studied for their damping behaviour. EHEA is a promising concept of high-entropy alloys. By combining the advantages of eutectic phases and HEAs, the EHEAs show better liquidity, castability and compositional homogeneity than conventional HEAs. Meanwhile, it can strike a great balance in mechanical strength and tensile ductility owing to the lamellar structures. The microstructures and crystal structure of two near-EHEAs are also studied. AlCo0.7CrFeNi2.1 is a hypo-eutectic HEA with primary body-centred cubic phases. AlCo1.5CrFeNi2.1 is a hyper-eutectic HEA with primary face-centred cubic phases. The results showed that these eutectic and near-eutectic alloys gave rise to greater tan δ values than conventional dual-phase HEAs, which might be attributed to their lamellar structures.  相似文献

The application of a high magnetic field is capable of inducing the formation of aligned equiaxed grains in alloys during directional solidification. The alignment and refinement of the grains is enhanced as the magnetic field intensity increases. The thermoelectric power difference at the liquid/solid interface in four alloys has been measured in situ during directional solidification and it is concluded that the formation of aligned equiaxed grains in a magnetic field should be attributed to the combined action of a thermoelectric magnetic force and a magnetization force.  相似文献

Perinatal psychological problems such as post-natal depression are associated with poor mother–baby interaction, but the reason for this is not clear. One explanation is that mothers with negative mood have biased processing of infant emotion. This review aimed to synthesise research on processing of infant emotion by pregnant or post-natal women with anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Systematic searches were carried out on 11 electronic databases using terms related to negative affect, childbirth and perception of emotion. Fourteen studies were identified which looked at the effect of depression, anxiety and PTSD on interpretation of infant emotional expressions (k = 10), or reaction times when asked to ignore emotional expressions (k = 4). Results suggest mothers with depression and anxiety are more likely to identify negative emotions (i.e., sadness) and less accurate at identifying positive emotions (i.e., happiness) in infant faces. Additionally, women with depression may disengage faster from positive and negative infant emotional expressions. Very few studies examined PTSD (k = 2), but results suggest biases towards specific infant emotions may be influenced by characteristics of the traumatic event. The implications of this research for mother–infant interaction are explored.  相似文献

A common question of interest to researchers in psychology is the equivalence of two or more groups. Failure to reject the null hypothesis of traditional hypothesis tests such as the ANOVA F‐test (i.e., H0: μ1 = … = μk) does not imply the equivalence of the population means. Researchers interested in determining the equivalence of k independent groups should apply a one‐way test of equivalence (e.g., Wellek, 2003). The goals of this study were to investigate the robustness of the one‐way Wellek test of equivalence to violations of homogeneity of variance assumption, and compare the Type I error rates and power of the Wellek test with a heteroscedastic version which was based on the logic of the one‐way Welch (1951) F‐test. The results indicate that the proposed Wellek–Welch test was insensitive to violations of the homogeneity of variance assumption, whereas the original Wellek test was not appropriate when the population variances were not equal.  相似文献

Psychologists, psycholinguists, and other researchers using language stimuli have been struggling for more than 30 years with the problem of how to analyze experimental data that contain two crossed random effects (items and participants). The classical analysis of variance does not apply; alternatives have been proposed but have failed to catch on, and a statistically unsatisfactory procedure of using two approximations (known as F 1 and F 2) has become the standard. A simple and elegant solution using mixed model analysis has been available for 15 years, and recent improvements in statistical software have made mixed models analysis widely available. The aim of this article is to increase the use of mixed models by giving a concise practical introduction and by giving clear directions for undertaking the analysis in the most popular statistical packages. The article also introduces the djmixed add-on package for SPSS, which makes entering the models and reporting their results as straightforward as possible.  相似文献

Upward directional non-steady-state solidification experiments have been performed on a hypomonotectic Al–5.5?wt%In alloy. The alloy developed cellular as-solidified microstructure for tip growth rates, V L, higher than 0.95?mm/s. The casting regions associated with V L?<?0.95?mm/s were shown to be characterized by a microstructure formed by In droplets disseminated in the Al matrix. Tip growth rate and microstructural features, such as cell spacing and interphase spacing, have been experimentally determined. The experimental cell spacings have been compared with theoretical predictions furnished by the Hunt–Lu model. It was found that the experimental scatter lies below the minimum range of values theoretically predicted. Moreover, the experimental cell spacing evolution with V L is characterized by a ?1.1 power law. The droplets’ interphase spacing, λ, is related to the growth rate by the Jackson–Hunt relationship (λ 2 V L?=?constant).  相似文献

Titanium matrix composites reinforced by an in situ formed networking amorphous phase have been prepared directly in the form of as-cast ingots. The composites show significant compressive and tensile plasticity. In contrast to the highly localized plasticity for most monolithic amorphous alloys, the tensile deformation of the current composites distributes uniformly over the entire specimen as a consequence of substantial work (strain) hardening. The formation mechanism of the networking structure, as a result of well-separated two-step solidification of the current alloy melts, have possible implications for composite synthesis in other alloy systems.  相似文献

It is well known that coefficient alpha can be used to estimate the reliability of a test even when the test is split into several parts. It is also known that alpha can severely underestimate test reliability when the several parts have an unequal number of items. A gernalization of alpha,β k, is proposed to correct this defect. Several properties ofβ k are also presented. Abstract

Internal friction measurements with a superimposed bias stress have provided evidence for geometrical kink migration on screw dislocations in iron. This intrinsic process causes a relaxation phenomenon in internal friction which has been identified with the occurrence of a subpeak (below 20 K) of the α-peak. The effect of different bias stress has allowed us to evaluate the kink migration energy, E m k ? 0·001eV.  相似文献

Recently, low-frequency internal friction measurements on a series of Fe–Cr alloys by Konstantinovi? and Terentyev [M.J. Konstantinovi? and D. Terentyev, Mater. Sci. Eng. A 521–522 (2009) p.106] have demonstrated that increasing Cr concentrations lead to an increase in the strength of the β-relaxation at the cost of the γ-relaxation (Chambers’ notation). In the same concentration and temperature regime, the alloys show alloy softening. It is argued that both phenomena are due to the same process, namely the influence of foreign atoms on the transformation of the cores of a 0?1 1 1?/2 screw dislocations from their low-temperature configuration, capable of forming kink pairs on {1 1 0} planes, to their high-temperature configuration with kink-pair generation on {2 1 1} planes.  相似文献

It is a common observation that in two-phase Ti-Al-based binary alloys, deformation of the gamma phase occurs by 1/2<110]-type ordinary dis-location activity and twinning associated with 1/6<112] type partials. In the present study the microstructure of a new Ti-Al-based alloy (Ti-47at.% Al-2at.%Mn-2at.%Nb+ 0.8 vol.% TiB2) with a duplex microstructure consisting of primary equiaxed gamma grains and lamellar alpha2+ gamma colonies was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) after deformation at elevated temperatures. Planar stacking faults were found in the gamma laths. A detailed contrast analysis by TEM shows that these planar stacking faults lying on {111} planes are bound by all the fcc variants of the Shockley partial dislocations of type 1/6<121>, in contrast with the observations in stoichiometric binary TiAl alloys, where only 1/6<112]-type Shockley partials are found to be associated with the true twins. It is proposed that the addition of ternary and quaternary elements such as Mn and Nb promotes the other variants of the fcc-like dissociations (not common in L10structure) in the present alloy.  相似文献

The microstructural evolution of epitaxial SrRuO3 thin films from ambient temperature (about 293K) to about 900K has been studied by in-situ transmission electron microscopy. Upon heating from the ambient temperature, the intensities of h, k, 2n+1 and h, -h+2n+1, 0 reflections in selected-area electron diffraction patterns decrease with increasing temperature. Two structural phase transitions were observed at about 673and about 783K, revealed by the vanishing of the h, k, 2n+1 and h,-h+2n+1, 0 reflections respectively. The examination of electron diffraction patterns along several different zone axes, taking into account the possible tilting configurations of RuO6 octahedra, indicates that, upon heating, the orthorhombic structure of SrRuO3 transforms into a tetragonal structure at about 673K, and further transforms into a cubic structure at about 783K. Possible structural models for the high-temperature phases are considered.  相似文献
