The paper suggests two revisions of K. Bennett's system of slot mereology. The revisions do not touch on the philosophical rationale for this system, but are focused on certain logical deficiencies in her formalisation.

Revised Craig Lipreading Inventory.

The two purposes of this study were to shorten the Craig Lipreading Inventory without affecting its reliability and validity and to establish normative data on the revised version. The full inventory was administered to 75 children. By item analysis, half of the items were selected to comprise the brief version; both versions were administered to another group of 75 children. Scores on the two versions correlated (.91 and .92, respectively, for Word Forms A and B and .97 and .95, respectively, for Sentence Forms A and B), thereby substantiating the construct validity of the briefer version. There was significantly high intertest reliability for the Word Forms (.80) and Sentence Forms (.82) of the briefer inventory. Normative data were computed for each age group. This briefer version is a temporally efficient tool for evaluating lipreading ability of children.     

Revised Provisional Diagnostic Profile: 2016

ABSTRACT

In Anna Freud’s and other previous versions of the diagnostic profile, drive theory and the structural model were the central organizing concepts. Though these are retained in the current version, greater emphasis has been made of other conceptual perspectives. In particular, the importance of understanding the impact of the child’s external world and the child’s attachment security; also the central importance of affects, both their recognition and management. These changes are seen in such sections as those on the ego which has been expanded to include a section on play and affects. The developmental line of anxiety and the concept of theory of mind have also been added.     

Revised Space Fortress: A validation study

We describe briefly the redevelopment of Space Fortress (SF), a research tool widely used to study training of complex tasks involving both cognitive and motor skills, to be executed on currentgeneration systems with significantly extended capabilities, and then compare the performance of human participants on an original PC version of Space Fortress (SF) with the revised Space Fortress (RSF). Participants trained on SF or RSF for 10 sets of eight 3-min practice trials and two 3-min test trials. They then took tests involving retention, resistance to secondary task interference, and transfer to a different control system. They then switched from SF to RSF or from RSF to SF for 2 sets of final tests and completed rating scales comparing RSF and SF. Slight differences were predicted on the basis of a scoring error in the original version of SF used and on slightly more precise joystick control in RSF. The predictions were supported. The SF group started better but did worse when they transferred to RSF. Despite the disadvantage of having to be cautious in generalizing from RSF to SF, we conclude that RSF has many advantages, which include accommodating new PC hardware and new training techniques. Development of the Revised Sex-Role Behavior Scale

This study describes the construction of the Revised Sex-Role Behavior Scale (SRBS-2), a 240-item self-report inventory comprised of male-valued, female-valued, and sex-specific items in four interest/behavior areas: Recreational and leisure activities, vocational preferences, social interaction, and marital behaviors. Two-hundred sixteen items were administered to 520 undergraduate males and females under three instructional sets. One-third of the subjects compared the typical young adult man and woman on the items, one-third rated the desirability of the items for men and women, and the remaining subjects rated themselves. Subjects in this latter condition also rated the 160 items from the SRBS-1. Typical and desirability ratings were used to select items to add to the SRBS-1 male-valued (more typical of men but desirable for both sexes), female-valued, and sex-specific (more typical of one sex and desirable only for that sex) scales. The resulting overall and area subscales had adequate internal consistency. Intercorrelations among the area subscales showed a fair degree of consistency across behavior areas, suggesting that global sex-role behavior assessments may be obtained with the overall SRBS-2 scales but that more detailed and accurate assessments require the use of separate area subscale scores.

Revised questionnaire on the sense of humor

Abstract.— A Sense-of-Humor Questionnaire (SHQ), based on the proposed 3–dimensional theory of sense of humor, was given to male and female students in social and physical sciences to test its construct validity. There were positive and significant correlations between the laughter-activating dimension (M_p) and each of the two laughter-inhibiting dimensions (L_p, and E_p), the latter being zero correlated with each other. In a two-way analysis of variance (sex X science), the main effects were a sex difference on the L_p- as well as E_p-dimension, while no main effect was found on the M_p-dimension. The L_p-scores discriminated between men and women in the social sciences, and the E_p-scores in the physical sciences. All results are in agreement with theory.
