Zusammenfassung In zwei Experimenten wurde mit Hilfe unterschiedlicher sozialer Attitüden und Werthaltungen jeweils die Hypothese geprüft, daß sich Einstellungen nach einstellungskonträrer Agitation in Richtung dieser Agitation oder aber nicht und in Gegenrichtung zur Agitation ändern, je nachdem ob sie weniger oder mehr in allgemeineren Werthaltungen verankert sind. Im Rahmen einer um die Konzeption der Verankerung erweiterten Theorie der kognitiven Dissonanz können damit besser als bisher sogenannte Bumerang-Effekte bei Änderungen von Attitüden erklärt werden.

Summary In two experiments we tested the following hypothesis concerning social attitudes and value orientations: Attitudes will be changed after counter-attitudinal agitation in the direction of this agitation or in opposite direction depending on their degree of being anchored in general value orientations. With the theory of cognitive dissonance, supplemented by the conception of anchoring, we are now able to explain better than before the so-called boomerang-effects which appear with attitude changes.

Over the last 30 years the forensic use of brain scanning technology in court has increased considerably. In the U.S. about two thirds of opinions involving positron emission tomography/single photon emission computed tomography (PET/SPECT) evidence are ruled admissible in court and often have a decisive impact on judges and juries. Undoubtedly, the impressive progress in modern functional imaging techniques has improved the differentiated knowledge on the neural basis of discrete aspects of crime-related cognition and behavior. However, there are several general issues which make it difficult to draw individual deductions concerning behavioral patterns from functional imaging results. By analyzing cases from the courtroom, the question will be addressed as to how far neuroimaging-based expert opinions are really supported by concrete findings in neurobiological research.

The article deals with the instrumentalization of victim status, which achieves a definite material psychosocial and narcissistic advantage. Talk shows cultivate victims and idealize them as heroes thus producing ersatz identities. To be singled out from society as ?innocent“ and to be pitied, admired and perhaps envied by others for the attention they attract, might prove to be a source of narcissistic gratification. So whilst victim identity may transform impotence and weakness into a medium for approval, it also fixes the dichotomy between offender and victim.

Starting with the question of why in certain instances acting out a counter-transference can lead to an “encounter in the service of comprehension” (Trimborn 1995), first Winnicott’s squiggle game in Gadamer’s (1960) sense is analyzed as an interpersonal hermeneutic circle. Then the effect and structure of recognition is clarified with sequences from Trimborn and Warsitz. This is done using Weiss and Simpson’s (1986) thought testing and Hegel’s concept of the fight for recognition in the form reworked by Honneth (1994). Finally, based on a case reported by Laimböck, the general significance of recognition in the analytical process is discussed. Recognition seems to be a cognitive and interactional moment of the analytical process that inexplicitly usually accompanies successful analysis, but when a narcissistic disorder is present it becomes the center of attention and important for successful analysis.

Alltag mit der Depression des Partners

Objective. Clinical research on the quality of interpersonal relationships in individuals with unipolar depression supports the idea that the family plays a major role in the development and the course of major depression. In order to further explore how family functioning relates to unipolar depression, the authors examined changes in family functioning as viewed by the patients' spouses. Methods. Interview data from 54 spouses of patients with unipolar depression were analysed as part of the baseline assessment of a study on the economic and health burden experienced by families with mentally ill relatives. Results. Having a family member with a current major depressive disorder is a general stressor for families and has implications for the health and well-being of the patient's spouse. Depressive symptoms affect a wide range of aspects of marriage and family life and result in a process of adaptation and transformation of the patient's family. Thus, in assessing burden experienced by spouses particular attention should be paid both to the social environments and to different aspects of the relationship as perceived by the patient's spouse in order to further understand the factors mediating the interaction between major depression and family functioning.
