This commentary briefly summarizes the model proposed by the Boston Group and attempts to place it in the context of attachment theory and other integrational attempts between cognitive science and psychoanalysis. The clinical implications of these ideas are considered, with particular reference to therapeutic technique and the role of the therapist, as a “new object.” Some suggestions for the further development of the model are considered, in particular the observational study of the therapeutic process, the use of some classical psychoanalytic ideas such as transference, and the need for using the model to encourage technical innovation in psychoanalysis. © 1998 Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health  相似文献

Our objective is to draw some practical implications from current research on the functions of reminiscence in later life. In the first part, based on a consensual typology of reminiscence functions, a comprehensive model of reminiscence functions is presented as a theoretical framework. This model groups the various functions of reminiscence under three overarching categories: self-functions, guidance functions, and social bonding functions. In the second part, practical suggestions for using reminiscence in the realm of mental health are drawn from empirical research on possible antecedents and consequences of the various forms of reminiscence.  相似文献

It is suggested that a number of theoretical models for non-test data can be tested by factor analysis. A traditional method for transforming principal-axis factor solutions is used as an aid in making such tests; a modification of this method is suggested. Using the item response model as developed on the multinomial distribution, asymptotic variances are obtained for residuals associated with response patterns and first-, and second-order marginal frequencies of manifest variables. When the model does not fit well, an examination of these residuals may reveal the source of the poor fit. Finally, a limited-information test of fit for the model is developed by using residuals defined for the first-, and second-order marginals. Model evaluation based on residuals for these marginals is particularly useful when the response pattern frequencies are sparse.The author would like to thank Yasuo Amemiya and Joseph Lucke for helpful suggestions. This study experimentally investigated the design of effective interactions using pedagogical conversational agents (PCAs) in a learner-learner collaborative learning activity. While dyads engaged in a concept explanation task (explaining the mechanism of computer processing), PCAs served as facilitators and provided metacognitive suggestions to better improve learning performance. Previous studies have shown that learners who received several types of suggestions from multiple PCAs were motivated to produce effective explanations; this study then further explored the effects of using multiple PCAs in different roles, providing different types of facilitation. It was predicted that by using two different PCAs to offer suggestions with a delay, learners may be able to process information more efficiently, for example by paying closer attention to each type of suggestion. To investigate this possibility, two types of facilitating content, namely provision of metacognitive suggestions and advice on effective coordination, were each implemented into two role-playing PCAs, named the “explanation adviser” and the “communication adviser” respectively. The results show that when learners used PCAs playing different roles and offering suggestions corresponding to these roles, learners generated explanations related to the suggestions and improved performance (efficacy of explanations) in several areas, including learning performance, for example better understanding the concept and becoming able to explain it using a greater range of technical words. This study shows empirically how multiple PCAs can be effectively designed to implement roles yielding different types of suggestions. The advantages of using such methods and implementing such functions of PCAs are further discussed.  相似文献

In this article, we emphasize that the Rasch model is not only very useful for psychological test calibration but is also necessary if the number of solved items is to be used as an examinee's score. Simplified proof that the Rasch model implies specific objective parameter comparisons is given. Consequently, a model check per se is possible. For data and item pools that fail to fit the Rasch model, various reasons are listed. For instance, the two-parameter logistic or three-parameter logistic models would probably be more suitable. Several suggestions are given for controlling the overall Type I risk, for including a power analysis (i.e., taking the Type II risk into account), for disclosing artificial model check results, and for the deletion of Rasch model misfitting examinees. These suggestions are empirically founded and may serve in the establishment of certain rough state-of-the-art standards. However, a degree of statistical elaboration is needed; and forthcoming test authors will still suffer from the fact that no standard software exists that offers all of the given approaches as a package.  相似文献

A method of the IRT observed-score equating using chain equating through a third test without equating coefficients is presented with the assumption of the three-parameter logistic model. The asymptotic standard errors of the equated scores by this method are obtained using the results given by M. Liou and P.E. Cheng. The asymptotic standard errors of the IRT observed-score equating method using a synthetic examinee group with equating coefficients, which is a currently used method, are also provided. Numerical examples show that the standard errors by these observed-score equating methods are similar to those by the corresponding true score equating methods except in the range of low scores.The author is indebted to Michael J. In this paper, we address the different ways in which dream research can contribute to interdisciplinary consciousness research. As a second global state of consciousness aside from wakefulness, dreaming is an important contrast condition for theories of waking consciousness. However, programmatic suggestions for integrating dreaming into broader theories of consciousness, for instance by regarding dreams as a model system of standard or pathological wake states, have not yielded straightforward results. We review existing proposals for using dreaming as a model system, taking into account concerns about the concept of modeling and the adequacy and practical feasibility of dreaming as a model system. We conclude that existing modeling approaches are premature and rely on controversial background assumptions. Instead, we suggest that contrastive analysis of dreaming and wakefulness presents a more promising strategy for integrating dreaming into a broader research context and solving many of the problems involved in the modeling approach.  相似文献

In the present contribution we investigate in an exemplary single-case study the behavior of psycho-physiological variables in psychotherapy sessions. The values are measured continously during a single session at the same time for both patient and therapist. The analysis of the data is done using an artificial neural network approach for non-linear principal component analysis and faithful data representation/visualization and compression required for subsequent process analysis. The used network (growing self-organizing map, GSOM) thereby uses a kernel smoothing for improved data density estimation. In this way, we are able to generate an entropy model of psycho-physiological variability detecting emotionally instable phases during the therapy process. We relate our finding to results obtained by speech analysis of the therapy sessions according to the cycle model invented by Mergenthaler. Thus, we get preliminary suggestions how psycho-physiological reactions are related to the therapeutic process.  相似文献

This study investigated factors of conflicting expectations and roles of the current psychology practitioners, as well as how these factors were associated with the founding principles of the scientist-practitioner model. Data were gathered from ten published journal articles and then interpreted using an abridged meta-analysis methodology. Results revealed: (a) the scientist-practitioner model needs to adapt to survive, preferably with the aim of becoming more versatile; (b) The majority of graduate level clinical psychology training programs are based on a flawed version of the scientist-practitioner model, which renders the training inadequate and ineffective; (c) The identity of clinical psychology should remain firmly grounded in mental health care, and so not encroach on the territory of any other psychological divisions. Implications of these findings and suggestions for psychology practitioners are also discussed.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe objective of this paper is to review the literature relevant to the psychosocial aspects of a return to sport following injury using a self-determination theoretical (SDT) framework.MethodsThe literature was reviewed qualitatively. SDT was used to interpret and bring coherence to the diverse array of findings.ResultsThe review is divided into four main sections. In section one, two conceptual models—the biopsychosocial model and the stages of return to sport model—that have been used to describe the return to sport following injury are examined and critiqued. In light of the limitations of these two models, SDT is presented as a potentially useful framework for synthesising the extant literature and making suggestions for future research on return to sport after injury phenomena (Section 2). Analysis of the psychosocial sport injury literature within a self-determination framework (Section 3) reveals the ways in which issues of competence, autonomy and relatedness may be salient during the return transition. In the fourth and final section, the implications of the findings are discussed and suggestions for future research are provided in line with self-determination theoretical contentions.ConclusionsSDT has potential for understanding findings in this area and for guiding future research. From an applied perspective, ensuring athletes’ needs for competence, autonomy and relatedness are met, may yield beneficial return-to-sport outcomes.  相似文献

Bower and Watson have offered, respectively, a logical hypothesis-testing model and a conditional probability model of contingency detection by young infants. Although each could represent cognitive processes concomitant with operant learning, empirical support for these models is sparse. The limitations of each model are discussed, and suggestions are made for a more parsimonious approach by focusing on the areas of overlap between the two.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates the feasibility of using the penalty function method to estimate parameters that are subject to a set of functional constraints in covariance structure analysis. Both types of inequality and equality constraints are studied. The approaches of maximum likelihood and generalized least squares estimation are considered. A modified Scoring algorithm and a modified Gauss-Newton algorithm are implemented to produce the appropriate constrained estimates. The diagnosis and classification of personality disorders have come a long way since the beginning of the 20th century. Perhaps by this time next century, the diagnostic manual of mental disorders will be using a dimensional model of classification that will provide more reliable and meaningful points of demarcation between normal and abnormal personality functioning. This article offers suggestions for the form, content, and placement of such a dimensional model. The particular model emphasized herein is the five-factor model of personality functioning, but the optimal diagnostic system will probably involve an integration of alternative dimensional models.  相似文献

It has become increasingly recognized that cognitive therapy (CT) is an effective treatment for the positive symptoms of schizophrenia yet there are few cognitive therapists in North America who are specialized to work with this patient population. There is a need for further dissemination of CT for schizophrenia in order to increase its availability. A first step in dissemination is to become familiar with the cognitive theory and therapy model, as applied to schizophrenia. The purpose of the present paper is to demonstrate the applicability of CT for psychosis, using the example of command hallucinations. First, we summarize the cognitive theory of command hallucinations and present the stages of CT, using the example of “Joe,” a 24-year-old male with schizophrenia. The paper concludes with practical suggestions of how to enhance the effectiveness of CT for command hallucinations.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test a theoretical model of the psychological well-being of fathers following divorce. The theory postulated that father postdivorce well-being was related to father role clarity, role satisfaction, age, income, education level, custody arrangement, encouragement from others, time since divorce, and involvement in an intimate relationship following divorce. Participants were 94 fathers from a midwestern city who completed self-administered questionnaires. Data were assessed using path analytic techniques. Involvement in an intimate relationship was found to have the greatest influence on father postdivorce well-being. Role satisfaction had direct effects on father postdivorce well-being and was important as a mediating variable for 4 constructs within the model. The findings suggest that father well-being following divorce is a complex phenomenon, influenced by all of the model variables except income, education level, and time since divorce. Implications for preventive intervention strategies, based on risk factors identified in this study, and suggestions for further research are discussed.  相似文献
