伴随着中国加快城市化的进程和进入消费社会,城市审美文化应当成为当代审美文化研究的一个新兴的重点领域;城市审美文化研究有着自身的独特视域和文化形态,并且贵在形成独特的文化特色;城市审美文化建设与城市的精神文明建设有着内在的紧密关联,应当发挥其对市民特别是青少年的陶冶引领作用;城市审美文化研究以彰显城市的文化个性,提升城市的文化竞争力为旨归.     

How to be a good professional: existentialist continuing professional development (CPD)

ABSTRACT

This article reflects on the construct and practice of continuing professional development (CPD) and its significance for the professional careers workforce. The article presents the idea of the CPD triad and considers how professional bodies, employers and individuals can each benefit from a practitioner's ongoing commitment to continuing professional development. The tension between the practitioner's quest for lifelong learning is set against professional body demands, leading to the conclusion that these are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Consideration is given to propositional, practical and procedural knowledge, and to overall competence. The article explores an existentialist approach to professional learning, and concludes that, along with personal agency, this could usefully be adopted by career practitioners to weather turbulent times.     

Appreciating a Scientist-Theologian: Some Remarks on the Work of John Polkinghorne

Perhaps the greatest irony about the contemporary religion-science dialogue is the fact that, despite their own strongly articulated denials, many thinkers implicitly accept the "warfare" thesis of A. D. White—that is, they agree with White that traditional theology has proved unable to engage science in fruitful conversation. More than most others, John Polkinghorne understands just how badly White misread the history of Christianity and science, and how much theology has been impoverished by its failure to challenge this core assumption of modernity.     

How to be a type-C physicalist

This paper advances a version of physicalism which reconciles the “a priori entailment thesis” (APET) with the analytic independence of our phenomenal and physical vocabularies. The APET is the claim that, if physicalism is true, the complete truths of physics imply every other truth a priori. If so, “cosmic hermeneutics” is possible: a demon having only complete knowledge of physics could deduce every truth about the world. Analytic independence is a popular physicalist explanation for the apparent “epistemic gaps” between phenomenal and physical truths. The two are generally seen as incompatible, since the demon’s deductions seem to presuppose analytic connections between physical and phenomenal terms. I begin by arguing, in support of the APET, that implications from the complete truths of physics to phenomenal truths cannot be a posteriori. Such implications are (according to the physicalist) necessarily true. But they cannot be Kripke-style a posteriori necessities, since (according to the physicalist) the complete truths of physics fix any relevant a posteriori facts about the reference of terms. I then show how the physicalist can turn the tables: the demon can exploit the physical fixing of reference to bridge the gap between the vocabularies, by deducing when phenomenal and physical terms co-refer. This opens the way for a “type-C” physicalism, which accepts in-principle deducibility while still appealing to analytic independence to explain why we (who are not demons) find it impossible to see phenomenal-physical connections a priori.     

关于马克主义法学中国化的几点看法

近两年来,法学界在热烈地讨论一个问题:传自西方的法学如何实现中国化?同样,这也是马克思主义法学在当前的发展所面临的一个任务,即马克思主义法学也要发展,以实现中国化的转换.之所以说马克思主义法学也面临着这一任务,是因为在某种程度上,马克思主义法学也是来自西方的理论.进一步具体地说,则至少可以列举出四个方面的理由.     

Proposal for a Distinctive Diagnosis: the Deliberate Self-Harm Syndrome (DSH)

ABSTRACT: Self-destructive behavior is a major clinical problem in psychiatry. A review of the literature reveals the existence of enough clinical data to identify a diagnostic entity, “The Deliberate Self-Harm Syndrome” (DSH). The authors present a diagnostic formulation of the DSH syndrome (in the DSM-III format) which consists of four essential clinical features, a group bof associteds features, clinical features, a group of associated features, a clinical course of typical onset in late adolescence, with multiple recurent episodes, with multiple methods of low lethality physical self-injury, extending over many years. On the basis of relatively exclusive association of clinical signs and symptoms a heuristic clinical entity is proposed.     

How the conjunction fallacy is tied to probabilistic confirmation: Some remarks on Schupbach (2009)

Crupi et al. (Think Reason 14:182–199, 2008) have recently advocated and partially worked out an account of the conjunction fallacy phenomenon based on the Bayesian notion of confirmation. In response, Schupbach (2009) presented a critical discussion as following from some novel experimental results. After providing a brief restatement and clarification of the meaning and scope of our original proposal, we will outline Schupbach’s results and discuss his interpretation thereof arguing that they do not actually undermine our point of view if properly construed. Finally, we will foster such a claim by means of some novel data.     

对"橄榄型社会结构"一说的反思

橄榄型社会结构的提法是建立在中产阶级理论的基础之上的.本文对世界三条不同的中产阶级成长之路进行了历史的考察,认为橄榄型社会结构并不符合当代中国的国情,我们无法借鉴;相对于中产阶级,我们更应该正视最广大社会群体的基本诉求.巩固党的执政基础和阶级基础需要我们更重视底层的广大民众,把工人阶级和广大劳动群众作为党执政的根本立足点.因此,造就一个橄榄型社会并不是我们现阶段所要关注的焦点.追求社会的公平正义才是我们党和政府要着手解决的首要问题.     

How to build a connectionist idiot (savant)

This paper describes the development of a connectionist model of an idiot savant date calculator using a multi-layer back-propagation network. The model mimics the behaviour of idiot savant date calculators in learning to perform the date calculation task without the need either to develop arithmetical skills or to encode explicit knowledge about regularities in the structure of dates. However, the performance of the model highlights limitations on the use of back-propagation as a general-purpose learning algorithm in complex problem domains. Even with a relatively simple problem like date calculation back-propagation can only succeed when forced to take a highly structured and modular approach to learning.
