Abstract

Artemisia khorassanica. Podl. (Asteraceae) is a common perennial herb growing wild in northeastern parts of Iran. The essential oil of A. khorasanica. was isolated by hydrodistillation in 1.25 (v/w) yield. The chemical composition of the essential oil was examined by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Thirty-one compounds were identified, representing 79.6% of the total oil. The major constituents were 1,8-cineol (17.7%), camphor (13.9%), davanone (12.2%), and isogeraniol (5.7%). Minimum inhibitory concentration was determined using agar dilution method against eight bacteria and two fungal strains. The essential oil indicated a moderate antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

Abstract

Fourteen essential oils hydrodistilled from eight Cinnamomum. (Lauraceae) species (C. pubescens. Kochummen, C. impressicostatum. Kosterm, C. microphyllum. Ridl., C. scortechinii. Gamb., C. rhyncophyllum. Miq., C. cordatum. Kosterm, C. zeylanicum. Blume, and C. mollissimum. Hook f.) were examined for their antifungal activity against six dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. tonsurans, Microsporum canis, M. gypseum., and M. audouini)., one filamentous fungi (Aspergillus fumigatus.), and five strains of yeasts (Candida albicans, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis., and Crytococcus neoformans.) by using the broth microdilution method. The antifungal activities of 13 standard compounds that are prevalent constituents in Cinnamomum. oils were also investigated in an effort to correlate the effectiveness of the oils with those of the components of the oils. The chemical composition of the oils was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Most of the oils showed moderate to strong activity against the fungi. Among the oils, the leaf and bark oils of C. zeylanicum. showed the highest activity against all the fungi with MIC values of 0.04 to 0.63 μ g μ L? 1. Other oils that gave a strong inhibition on fungal growth were the leaf oil of C. cordatum. and bark and twig oils of C. pubescens. and C. impressicostatum.. Cinnamaldehyde, which was the most abundant component of the bark oil of C. zeylanicum., showed the strongest activity against all the fungi studied. Based on the results of the assay on standard samples, it may be that the high levels of cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, geraniol, benzyl benzoate, and methyl cinnamate in the oils and in combination with the minor components is responsible for the high antifungal activity of the oils.  相似文献

Abstract

The yield of oil isolated by hydrodistillation from aerial parts of Thymus fontanesii. Boiss. et Reut. (Lamiaceae) growing wild in Djelfa (Algeria) was 0.9%. Analysis of the oil by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) revealed the identification of 47 components accounting for 98.5% of the total oil. The oil was found to be rich in monoterpenes (91.5%) with major constituents being thymol (29.3%), γ.-terpinene (21.7%), p.-cymene (15.9%), and thymol methyl ether (11.4%), while a smaller amount of linalool (4.8%) and β.-caryophyllene (2.9%) were detected. According to the antimicrobial study using the disk diffusion method and the agar dilution assay–minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), the oil showed strong in vitro. growth inhibition activity against Gram-negative bacteria and antifungal activity. The oil exhibited the maximum antifungal activity against Mucor ramaniamus. (MIC = 0.2 µL/mL).  相似文献

The essential oil from the leaves of Curcuma longa L. Kasur variety grown in Pakistan was extracted by hydro-distillation. Chemical constituents of the essential oil were identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The chromatographic analysis of oil showed 25 constituents, out of which nine chemical constituents were identified. The eucalyptol (10.27%) was the major component of the essential oil. α-pinene (1.50%), β-phellandrene (2.49%), β-pinene (3.57%), limonene (2.73%), 1,3,8-p-menthatriene (1.76%), ascaridole epoxide (1.452%), 2-methylisoborneol (2.92%), 5-isopropyl-6-methyl-hepta-3, dien-2-ol (2.07%) were also present in considerable quantity. The antimicrobial properties of leaves of Curcuma longa were tested by disc diffusion method against various human pathogens, including eight fungal and five bacterial strains. Essential oil showed maximum resistance against Fusarium miniformes MAY 3629 followed by Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 whereas; it exhibited least resistance against Fusarium oxysporium ATCC 48122. The results of the antimicrobial assay revealed that essential oil showed significant inhibitory activity against the tested organisms.  相似文献

The essential oil of Myrcianthes pseudo-mato (Legr.) Mc. Vaugh, from the Yungas area (Argentina), has been studied for the first time. The essential oil obtained was analyzed by GC/MS and assayed for anti-microbial activity. Height different genera of bacteria and one yeast species were used in this study as test organisms. The oil showed a high degree of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus and Micrococcus luteus. Twenty components were characterized representing 97.5% of the total components detected with 1,8-cineole (32.5%) and ß-caryophyllene (18.9%) as major constituents.  相似文献
