Sunday School Student and Theological Fatalism

I will briefly argue that theological fatalism is not a genuine ‘theological’ problem, for it can be reduced to another alleged incompatibility that arises independently of the existence or non-existence of God. I will conclude that the way of arguing against the existence of God or His omniscience by appealing to theological fatalism is blocked for libertarian atheists.     

特殊教育教师工作家庭冲突、情绪智力与工作投入的关系

在积极心理学视野下探讨特殊教育教师情绪智力对工作家庭冲突与工作投入之间关系的调节作用。采用工作家庭冲突量表、情绪智力量表和工作投入量表,通过整群取样选取河南省7所特殊教育学校共256名教师进行调查。结果表明：（1）特殊教育教师工作家庭冲突和工作投入在性别、有无孩子及年龄方面差异显著。就工作家庭冲突水平而言,女教师显著高于男教师,有孩子的教师显著高于没孩子的教师,30-40岁的教师冲突水平最高,30岁及以下教师次之,41岁及以上教师最低;在工作投入水平上,女教师显著低于男教师,有孩子的教师显著低于没孩子的教师,41岁及以上教师投入水平最高,30岁及以下教师次之,31-40岁教师最低。（2）特殊教育教师工作家庭冲突与情绪智力、工作投入均呈负相关;情绪智力与工作投入呈正相关。（3）特殊教育教师情绪智力对工作家庭冲突与工作投入之间的关系有显著的调节作用。     

中小学教师情绪工作策略及特性与工作满意度的关系研究

以情绪工作的资源守恒为理论基础, 通过问卷调查, 探讨了368名中小学教师情绪工作策略及其特性与工作满意度的关系。结果发现:①表面行为策略与工作满意度负相关显著, 主动深度行为策略和被动深度行为策略与工作满意度正相关显著。②情绪表达多样性和持久性与工作满意度负相关显著, 并与表面行为策略成正相关显著, 与被动深度行为策略负相关显著;③表面行为策略在情绪表达多样性对工作满意度的影响起部分中介作用, 被动深度行为策略在情绪表达多样性对工作满意度的影响中起完全中介作用。     

Restructuring School Counselor Education: Work in Progress

Responding to the cry for school reform and to the growing demand for school counselors, this article offers a rationale for the pursuit of a new approach to educating school counselors. Based on a set of related assumptions, the proposed model relies on a group-oriented, democratic strategic planning process of empowerment that involves participants in the collaborative development of a school counselor education program.     

Work, Well–being and Vocational Education: The Ethical Significance of Work and Preparation for Work

David Carr's account of the nature of professional work is described and examined. It is argued that Carr's criteria for distinguishing between professional and non–professional work are not adequate. The criteria are as follows: the professions' essential role in promoting human flourishing; their contestability; their direct concern for the well–being of clients; their provision of a high degree of autonomy for practitioners. They do not mark out a qualitative difference between professions and other occupations. Carr's notion of civic necessities applies to what he describes as non–professional as well as to professional work. The role of commercial considerations in the usefulness of some kinds of work is considered and a distinction is made between technical and occupational virtues. Carr treats professional virtues as occupational virtues without appreciating that nearly all occupations have both occupational and technical virtues. A significant part of the wouthwhileness of work is bound up with practice of the relevant occupational virtues.     

Internal Reformation Within the Contemporary Coptic Imagined Community: The Sunday School Movement and Mechanisms of Minority Survival

Abstract

With the centennial jubilee of the Sunday School Movement (SSM) occurring in 2018, this article explores two main questions: what are the main features of the Coptic community as imagined by the leaders of the SSM? And what is the nature of the relationship between “Coptic” Christian and “national Egyptian” identities within the dominant discourse of the SSM? The article argues that the contemporary Coptic identity, as reconstituted by the SSM, helps the Coptic community to survive as a vertical ethnie. The new Coptic identity is rooted in and relies upon the exclusive use of demotic symbols and narratives. Thus equipped, modern Copts perceive themselves as part of an imagined spiritual community within the wider Egyptian community. Indeed, this article argues that the SSM’s discourse presents a unique ‘marble cake’ model wherein religious and national identities are both present. By portraying Coptism as the area of interplay between Christianity and Egyptian-ness, the SSM blends “biological” and “cultural-ideological” modes of myth-making. Accordingly, to identify as Copt becomes equivalent to identifying as Egyptian.

Social Exclusion and the Transition from School to Work: The Case of Young People Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET)

In the modern labor market what Côté (1996) describes as “identity capital”—comprising educational, social, and psychological resources—is at a premium in entering and maintaining employment. One consequence is the extension of education and training while young people acquire the qualifications and skills that will enhance their employability. In accordance with the perspective of life span developmental psychology, this places particular pressure on those young people growing up in disadvantaged circumstances and lacking support, especially when attempting to negotiate the transition from school to work. A particular policy concern in Britain has been directed at those young people who leave full-time education at the minimum age of 16 and then spend a substantial period not in education, employment, or training (NEET). This article reports the result of analyzing longitudinal data, collected for a subsample of the 1970 British Birth Cohort Study surveyed at age 21, to model the relationship of NEET status to earlier educational achievement and circumstances and to assess the added difficulties NEET poses in relation to the building of adult identity capital. It is concluded that although poor educational achievement is the major factor in entering NEET, inner city living for boys and lack of parental interest in their education for girls are also important. For young men the consequences of NEET lie mainly in subsequent poor labor market experience. For young women, the majority of whom are teenage mothers, the damaging effects of NEET extend to the psychological domain as well. It is concluded that effective counseling targeted at high risk groups, along the lines of the new UK “ConneXions” service, are needed to help young people avoid the damaging effects of NEET and make a successful transition to adult life.     

初中生班级团体依恋、自悯与学习倦怠的关系

本研究采用青少年学习倦怠量表、班级团体依恋问卷、自悯量表、青少年父母同伴依恋问卷、生活满意度量表、和自编学业满意度问题对658名初中生进行问卷调查,考察当代初中生对其所在班级的团体依恋和自悯与学习倦怠之间的关系,并检验自悯在班级团体依恋和学习倦怠关系中的中介作用。结果发现：在控制了人口学变量、父母依恋、同伴依恋、学业满意度和生活满意度之后,（1）班级团体依恋焦虑和回避均能显著正向预测学习倦怠;（2）自悯显著负向预测学习倦怠;（3）自悯在班级团体依恋焦虑和学习倦怠的关系中起到完全中介的作用,而在班级团体依恋回避和学习倦怠的关系中起部分中介的作用。研究结果对于从班级团体依恋和自悯的角度理解中学生学习倦怠具有重要意义。     

The Relative Influence of Parental Attachment,Peer Attachment,School Attachment,and School Alienation on Delinquency among High School Students in Turkey

Although numerous studies have confirmed the relationship between social bonds to pro-social others and delinquency in Western countries, research focusing on the same relationship in non-Western countries is scarce. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by examining the relationship between social bonds to pro-social others and several types of delinquency among high school students in Turkey. Results showed that the extent of an adolescent’s social bonds with his/her parents, peers, and schools had significant and diverging effects on delinquency. We also found bonds to parents and peers to have moderating effects on how school bonds affect delinquency.     

The Conflicting Demands of Work,Family, and School Among Students at an Urban University

The effects of perceived effectiveness of university support services and general satisfaction with the educational experience on conflicting demands of work, family, and school were investigated in a study of 375 undergraduate and graduate students at an urban university. Results demonstrated a negative relationship between perceived effectiveness of support services and the degree of work-school role conflict experienced by participants. Furthermore, satisfaction with educational experience was negatively related to work-school conflict. No other significant effects were found.     

Private School,College Admissions and the Value of Education

In this article, I defend a proposal to cap the proportion of students admitted to elite colleges who were educated at elite, often private, schools to not more than the proportion of students who attend such schools in society as a whole. In order to defend this proposal, I draw on recent debates that pit principles of equality against principles of adequacy, and I defend the need for a pluralist account of educational fairness that includes both elements. I argue that while equality best captures our convictions about unfairness in access to the instrumental and positional benefits of education, such as job prospects and college admission, adequacy best captures our convictions about unfairness in stunting the development of human talent and the intrinsic benefits of education. The proposal to cap the proportion of private school students at elite universities advances both of these, usually conflicting, principles because it permits unequal but efficient talent development through the vehicle of private tuition and elite schooling, and yet promises to seriously curtail the unfair positional instrumental benefits of private or elite schooling by having those students compete against each other and not students who did not attend elite schools. The policy also achieves its aim consistent with preserving some attractive aspects of parental choice. Towards the end of the article I consider a number of practical objections and an alternative proposal.

高中生羞怯与学校适应的关系:同伴依恋的中介作用及年级差异

目的:考察高中学生羞怯、同伴依恋与学校适应之间的关系及其年级差异。方法:以中学生羞怯量表、同伴依恋量表以及学校适应量表为研究工具,从潍坊市两所高中抽取12个班共计605名高中生进行问卷测查。结果:(1)高中生羞怯与同伴依恋、学校适应呈显著负相关; 同伴依恋与学校适应呈显著正相关。(2)同伴依恋在高中生羞怯和学校适应之间起部分中介作用,但同伴依恋在高一学生中中介作用显著,而在高二和高三学生中,这种中介作用不显著。
