This study examined individuals' memory for the temporal order of autobiographical events and for the components that constitute autobiographical events. Study 1 measured performance on an across-event ordering task that involved the chronological arrangement of cards that displayed event labels. Results indicated poor ordering ability across events, but a reasonable ability to order clusters of events. Study 2 compared within-event and across-event ordering using computer-presented digital photographs. Participants were better at ordering the photographs in their own across-event trials than in their within-event trials. The results are discussed in terms of the retrieval of temporal information under within- and across-event conditions.  相似文献

本研究旨在探讨人格特点与行为抑制之间的关系。680名被试完成了中国人人格量表(QZPS)和行为抑制量表(BIS),回归和相关分析的结果表明,对七种行为的抑制都与多个人格因素显著相关,相关系数在0.10-0.57之间。控制人格因素间的相关之后,进入每个预测行为抑制回归方程的人格因素分别为6-10个,能够解释17%-51%的变异。文中还对本研究的局限及进一步研究的方向进行了讨论。  相似文献

Memory for the temporal order of the components of autobiographical events was examined in two experiments. Experiments 1 and 2 examined the relationship between reaction times to recognise photographs of the components of events and ordering of these photographs. Reaction times were not related to true event position, nor to assigned temporal position, in a manner consistent with an activation strength model of temporal ordering. In contrast, ordering performance was found to be related to event vividness ratings, ability to classify a photograph as one the participant had taken, and retention interval. These findings are all consistent with the hypothesis that the order of an autobiographical event's components is determined by the associative structure that links each component to its general event memory. Overall, memory for the order of the components of autobiographical events may be initially based on associations between the event components and their general event memory representation. These associations appear to decay rapidly leaving only reconstructive ability as the determinant of event component order.  相似文献

This paper deals with aggregation functionals defined on arbitrary sets of ordinal numerical values in the framework of representational measurement theory. Our basic assumption is that such a functional represents a meaningful relation between variables; i.e., it is invariant under actions from an appropriate automorphism group. We prove that an aggregation functional is continuous, idempotent, and invariant if and only if it can be represented in the form of the Choquet integral with respect to a monotonic {0, 1}- valued set function. Continuous recordings of brain electrical activity were obtained from a group of 176 patients throughout surgical procedures using general anesthesia. Artifact-free data from the 19 electrodes of the International 10/20 System were subjected to quantitative analysis of the electroencephalogram (QEEG). Induction was variously accomplished with etomidate, propofol or thiopental. Anesthesia was maintained throughout the procedures by isoflurane, desflurane or sevoflurane (N = 68), total intravenous anesthesia using propofol (N = 49), or nitrous oxide plus narcotics (N = 59). A set of QEEG measures were found which reversibly displayed high heterogeneity of variance between four states as follows: (1) during induction; (2) just after loss of consciousness (LOC); (3) just before return of consciousness (ROC); (4) just after ROC. Homogeneity of variance across all agents within states was found. Topographic statistical probability images were compared between states. At LOC, power increased in all frequency bands in the power spectrum with the exception of a decrease in gamma activity, and there was a marked anteriorization of power. Additionally, a significant change occurred in hemispheric relationships, with prefrontal and frontal regions of each hemisphere becoming more closely coupled, and anterior and posterior regions on each hemisphere, as well as homologous regions between the two hemispheres, uncoupling. All of these changes reversed upon ROC. Variable resolution electromagnetic tomography (VARETA) was performed to localize salient features of power anteriorization in three dimensions. A common set of neuroanatomical regions appeared to be the locus of the most probable generators of the observed EEG changes.  相似文献

Sudden gains (SGs), referring to large, stable symptom improvement occurring between consecutive treatment sessions, have been associated with improved outcomes among adults with various psychological disorders. Little research exists on SGs or sudden symptom worsening (i.e., sudden regressions [SRs]) during treatment for youth disorders. The current study examined predictors and outcomes of SGs/SRs via multiple informants in youth anxiety treatment. Participants were 118 youth (age M = 11.6, SD = 2.5; 53.8% female) and their caregivers receiving a cognitive-behavioral therapy protocol for a principal anxiety disorder. Anxiety symptom severity was assessed weekly via the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children–Trait–Child/Parent versions. SGs and SRs occurred in 45.8 and 31.3% of youth, respectively. SRs were more common among youth with comorbid mood or externalizing disorders, while SGs occurred more often among youth with greater pretreatment anxiety symptom severity. SGs were not associated with posttreatment outcomes, but SRs predicted significantly higher posttreatment internalizing symptoms based on child report (β = .23, p = .03) and externalizing symptoms based on child (β = .15, p = .04) and parent report (β = .16, p = .03), controlling for overall magnitude of symptom change. SRs among youth receiving cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety are associated with pretreatment clinical complexity and poorer posttreatment outcomes and may serve as a warning sign to clinicians of possible treatment failure.  相似文献

Following exposure to 30 four-digit numbers containing an invariant “3”, subjects are found falsely to recognize novel four-digit numbers containing this invariant (positives) in preference to novel numbers that do not contain the invariant (negatives). Despite this false recognition, they are generally unable to report the rule relating test positives to the positives seen during the learning phase. This finding has been taken to show implicit learning of a rule. Two experiments are reported here which show that it is not necessary to learn this rule in order to perform at above-chance levels on this test. Most of the effect can be explained in terms of the rejection of particularly distinctive test items that are more prevalent in the test negatives. This rejection appears to be mediated by knowledge that is potentially explicit as opposed to implicit, and we present tentative evidence that it is rule-based as opposed to analogic.  相似文献

This study investigates the hypothesis that the modality effect (i.e., the often-found recall advantage of the last few items presented in the auditory- rather than visual-input modality) is attributable to a directional auditory trace. Such a directional trace should help performance of forward item-to-item recall, but should hurt performance if mental reordering is required. However, it was found in our Experiment 1 that mental item-to-item reordering of the materials did not affect the modality effect. In Experiment 2, strict control was exercised over the order of recall of chunks of items, as well as over the order of recall within chunks. It was found that the item-to-item reordering of the materials had little effect on the modality effect. However, the larger scale order of recall of the chunks had a large effect on the modality effect. If recall was in a forward order (i.e., first chunk, second chunk, third chunk), there was a dramatic superiority of the auditory materials on the last chunk. If the recall order was backward (third chunk, second chunk, first chunk), the modality effect was inconsequential. These results suggest that the modality effect is related to access to large memorial units rather than to item-to-item associations.  相似文献

Shadows are frequently present when we recognize natural objects, but it is unclear whether they help or hinder recognition. Shadows could improve recognition by providing information about illumination and 3-D surface shape, or impair recognition by introducing spurious contours that are confused with object boundaries. In three experiments, we explored the effect of shadows on recognition of natural objects. The stimuli were digitized photographs of fruits and vegetables displayed with or without shadows. In experiment 1, we evaluated the effects of shadows, color, and image resolution on naming latency and accuracy. Performance was not affected by the presence of shadows, even for gray-scale, blurry images, where shadows are difficult to identify. In experiment 2, we explored recognition of two-tone images of the same objects. In these images, shadow edges are difficult to distinguish from object and surface edges because all edges are defined by a luminance boundary. Shadows impaired performance, but only in the early trials. In experiment 3, we examined whether shadows have a stronger impact when exposure time is limited, allowing little time for processing shadows; no effect of shadows was found. These studies show that recognition of natural objects is highly invariant to the complex luminance patterns caused by shadows.  相似文献

Ordering performance was also consistently related to predicted event memorability and to the amount of processing given to an event during encoding. Ordering performance was not consistently related to the person-typicality, pleasantness, or emotional intensity of the events, and was also not related to whether the two events judged came from the same thematic category. These results suggest that memory for event order is not entirely reconstructed from event content. The dimensions of an animal's limbs are fixed, but in locomotion and other rhythmic activities, they oscillated at a number of different frequencies. How might the physical conditions for this frequency variation be characterized? Kugler and Turvey (1987) hypothesized that the conditions might be adiabatic. A rhythmic system undergoes an adiabatic transformation of frequency when the stiffness is changed without a transfer of energy by heating. By standard definitions, adiabatic transformability is achievable only in conservative systems and only at infinitely slow rates of transformation. Kugler and Turvey's (1987) hypothesis extends adiabatic to systems that are dissipative and transformed rapidly by internal sources of energy, such as biological movement systems. Two predictions follow from the hypothesis. The first prediction is that a relation should be obtained in frequency-energy coordinates that has constant slope (Ehrenfest's adiabatic relation, a semipermanent invariant of motion) and an energy intercept less than zero (constant energy dissipation regardless of frequency). The second prediction is that the positive linear relation in frequency-energy coordinates can be satisfied by different relations in period-amplitude coordinates; amplitude increasing, amplitude increasing then decreasing, amplitude decreasing. The predictions were evaluated in four experiments with the same three participants. In each experiment, the rhythmic movement unit was defined by a pendulum of fixed dimensions held in the right hand that was made to oscillate at frequencies in the range 0.6 Hz to 1.8 Hz by the requirement of 1:1 frequency locking with a pendulum of different dimensions held in the other hand. Changes in the period of a pendular rhythmic movement were accompanied by statistically significant changes in the amplitude. Amplitude's systematic dependence on period differed, however, among the three participants in the experiments.  相似文献
